SPOILERS: 45 Images Leaked from The Star Wars: Episode 7 Set in Abu Dhabi.
TMZ made a huge leak of photos from the Abu Dhabi set. We won't post the images here. If you want to check them out head over to their site here. Beware there are a few spoilers.
And a sort of cantina in the top. Also that creature is awesome! It reminds me a mix of a boar with a rhinoceros, and has an certain Gamorrean aspect on it. You know, the big piggy nose, the teeth jumping from the sides and those small horns. Cool, very cool!
Awesome, creature looks great. Is that a diner over that gate? The big building looks like a garage with Huttish architecture. This looks awesome, totally stoked...
The creature is indeed well-designed. How to even describe it? Something like an incredibly stocky elephant, but with an enormous snout instead of a trunk? I imagine an animal that evolved on a high-gravity world would look something like this. Hope it has more than a few seconds of screen-time.
As for the rest of the pictures: Clearly these people knew perfectly well they were being photographed, as we see them pose for the camera. It cannot be very hard to find out who took these pics, if the movie-makers really wanted to.
Who knows, maybe they are even _arranging_ "leaks" to get some kind of feedback from fans and find out if they are taking this in the right direction?
It looks a lot like a prehistoric pygmy rhino with an enormous snout. Looks a lot like the EpIV original Dubak lizard. I'm absolutly loving the tone of this movie so far; very gritty, almost western. This movie is under ridiculously tight security. I'm sure the "leaking" of these photos is entirely deliborate. It's gotta be part of their anticipative marketing campaign. They'll probably keep teasing us with tibits and photos over the next year or so just to feed the excitement until they decide we're ready for a teaser trailer.
Well if it's an intentional leak to gauge fan feedback...I'm happy with what they are doing! All of these practical sets and pieces look fantastic. This is exactly the direction they should be taking the production, IMO. I want CGI, and it is obviously needed, but where it needs to be used, not over the top like the PT did.
This is great. Everything I see gives me more and more faith in this movie.
I have to say, I am impressed. I'm sure cgi WILL be used - but if they can restrict it compositing/digital set extensions/etc. that will be good. I hope creatures and characters will mostly be practical, with perhaps cgi enhancements if needed. I couldn't stand those full cgi cartoon characters they used in the Pod race sequence in Phantom Menace. I cared not one jot for them.
In some ways, I actually like the fact that the Prequel Trilogy was predominately CGI. It gave the Old Republic a kind of fairy tale/golden age feel. But I'm glad they're returning to more practical effects in this one.
Well it is definitely Tattoine. There is moister farm equipment. The bulding over the gate is shaped a little like the shuttle in SW2 that Padme & Anakin take to the spaceport
The gate is based on a Ralph McQuarrie painting for the entrance to Jabba's palace compound: http://media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/736x/52/ed/45/52ed459df5bec76f233e7a4ea44a076a.jpg
Tatooine is written into the folk law of the Skywalker story so it makes sense that they go back for a small visit. I know the argument that its a big universe etc but does anyone know how the fans felt about Tatooine being revisited in RotJ? I mean Jabba could have lived on any planet at that stage in the story
Well, that's true as well as the farm stuff appearing in the photos, but I think it rare to picture Tatooine so many times and not haven't seen all of it yet. If I think it's a good point to revisit Tatooine and that way connect with old trilogy fans ? yes, but that would be easier depicting places already seen. As for the new scenario I like it nonetheless.
I think the prequel trilogy got us accostumed into so many new planets that we quite forgot Star Wars' basis on few planets; Yavin, Hoth, Alderaan ( though not appearing), Tatooine, Endor...It is a low amount of planets that the story focus on, not letting the story get lost into so many sub plots
The prequels required a lot more planets because the scale of the story was far larger than the OT (and CGI allowed more to be created without breaking the budget), but they also suffered from poor positioning, with planets such as Kashyyyk relegated to a virtual cameo despite being a locale that fans would have loved to have seen further explored. Maybe it will return in the new movies - one planet I DO want to see again. Would be fun to discover Chewbacca has returned home as the King of the Wookiees, and has kept the Millennium Falcon while Han has been subsumed by greater military responsibilities. Chewie might then be tempted back into action when he learns Solo (whom he thought was killed a few years since) has actually been captured and imprisoned alongside Princess Leia). Yeah, it's fanfic, but it could be worse ;)
John Caliber: There has been a report about Wookiees, so I think Kashyyyk is a likely possibility, but not a certainty since we don't know much more than "stormtroopers and Wookiees" (possibly) showing up.
I have a strong feeling this was ''leaked'' on purpose! everyone is smiling for the pics! its awesome, it gives nothing away, yet also gives fans something to get excited about!
I am under the impression personal phones/cameras werent allowed at all on set and this is part of the marketing strategy?
You sense the return of a design, not Jabba himself. However I can't come up with one good reason why they should go back to Tatooine (and no, "because the other movies featured Tatooine" is.not.a.good.reason.)
I highly suspect we are returning to Tatooine because that's where Luke is. I honestly think that after Balace was restored to the Force, with the Empire defeated, the Sith destroyed and Luke having saved the galaxy, I think he would've returned to Tatooine and settled down as a farmer, just like his Uncle wanted. Why? Because he's not a young boy dreaming of adventure any more, he's had his adventure and now he's a man, and his place in the prophecy has been fulfilled. There is no Jedi Order or Sith Order. Balance.
Makes sense, yes. Perhaps Luke has spent his time improving living conditions for the decent Tatooine folk, running the gangsters out of the townships, and mopping up the fallout after the death of Jabba.
If Luke's supposed to be there when other characters seek him out, then his role will be passive until they find him. The younger folks will get the initial burst of action.
I imagine his first appearance will closely mirror that of Obi-Wan in Episode 4 (and 1, for that matter). First we just see a hooded figure, then he throws back his hood to reveal his face.
I would think that as soon as the Empire's oppressive power was abolished that Luke would take the opportunity to start passing on Yoda's teachings immediatly. After all, it was made clear that Luke's destiny was to establish the new order of Jedi. Why would he feel the need to go back to Tatooine? The possibilities are endless. We also have to remember that this story will take place 30 years after ROTJ ended, so the empire is most likely long gone now. If he did return to tatooine to improve the living conditons of the decent townsfolk after saving the galaxy, he probably would have done it a few decades before EpVII picks up. By this time, I'm sure he's got much bigger fish to fry.
My thoughts, only based on hearsay etc, are that the Jedi Order hasn't thrived and that their fire has not returned to the galaxy, for whatever reason. So, we have Luke as possibly the last Jedi (still, after 30+ years) who needs force-sensitives but is having trouble locating them. So if Leia's daughter is a would-be Jedi, she'll become his next apprentice (the Luke is killed, a la Obi-Wan and she has to find answers from elsewhere). Wonder if Leia has manifested any proactive Force talents? Had plenty of time to experiment.
I've always theorized that Leia would have a high position of power in the new galactic senate after the empire has been destroyed. If that is the case, it'd only make sense that her influence over the new political system would only aid Luke in building the new Jedi order from the ground up. It probably won't be as strong as it once was, but that could be the weakness that the antagonistic force uses against them.
Quite so. Hmm, let's say - based on the vaguest of story rumours - that her and Solo are prisoners ... she might be able to communicate telepathically with Luke (if, again, we say that he and the new generation come to rescue them) and help him locate her cell, or even help her use Jedi mind-tricks against their captors?
this seems way too planned to me, theres no image of any major stars, no story line giveaway, everyone is looking into the lens! it would have been very easy to get caught!
^ I agree with Michael. The fact that these 'leaked' photos are still available to view on TMZ speaks volumes. Disney would have instantly jumped all over any true leak.
My guess would be that someone working for TMZ infiltrated the set and posed as a photographer taking production stills. That's why people appear to be posing.
3 sets, a tower, a spaceshipwreck and this alian house.
I bet that in the mittle of the movie a spacecraft will crash on tatooin and the passangers will be taken to the alian house. Maybe skywalker is a prisoner here.
Has elements of this unused concept art from JJ Abrams Star Trek film, this is a desert world where Kirk originally found old Spock, this later became the ice world !!
Definitely Ralph McQuarries Artwokr involved. Jabba's Palace original entrance: http://bensbargains.net/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/jabbas-palace-gate.jpg
I'm a bit concerned by the lack of prosthetics and makeup used for the extras, but other than that things seem to be coming along very nicely! Bringing back the grittiness of the OT indeed!
Good catch! Really looking forward to this. I highly doubt these photos were actually leaked secretively from the set. They're just gonna keep teasing us with tiny bits of info and non-specified set photos to build our anticipation over the next year and a half or so. The much younger fans of the franchise aren't the one's getting online to check for updates, they're obviously catering to the older fans by doing this because they obviously know we're the ones who truly give a shit about how this film's going to end up.
It's hard for me to see the pictures clearly enough right now to make the destinction, since my computer at work has a terrible glare at this time in the morning, but I'll take your work for it Dekka.
Given that there is a moisture vaporator in a few of the shots, I think this is almost certainly Tatooine. But one thing strikes me as odd here - lots of humans, but where are the aliens? If this were Jabba's palace, as some have suggested, or either Mos Eisley or Mos Espa, there would almost certainly be some poor ol' sweaty bastids in creature masks somewhere in the shots.
I suspect this may very well be some location on Tatooine that we haven't seen before. It almost looks like a small desert compound of some sort, rather than part of a larger settlement.
It'd be pretty redundant for them to establish a story on a desert planet that's not tatooine. I doubt Abrams would make that move. Epecially since Tatooine is the most iconic planet of the Star Wars saga.
Yeah, I agree. Especially since there's at least one vaporator on the set.
I'm wondering now about that cable fence with the aurebesh "Warning" sign. It almost looks like an electric fence, doesn't it? If so, I wonder if it's keeping people in, or keeping something out?
This is not Mos Eisley or Mos Espa, this is going to be a new location on Tatooine, which I'm completely fine with. We get to explore a different part of Tatooine in the first part of each trilogy.
My immediate image is of a penned herd of big CG beasties - possibly the same species as the fat grey pig-monster - which stampede once the explosions begin?
I think they fit in perfectly with the aesthetic of the prequels which after all covered Tatooine comprehensively. Any one of the costumes could have been slotted into Mos Espa, or the Podrace Arena bleachers effortlessly. Typical Tatooinian garb features long, earth-hued robes, hoods and the odd technological adornment.
In fact, Michael Kaplan, the costume designer of EVII, worked on Blade Runner as his first working experience in hollywood. But I think the pictures show more resemblance to his latest work on the Star Trek reboots..
I believe that Lucas wrote the treatments for Episodes VII-IX and then had Arndt develop them further, but still technically in treatment form, so there must have been an ongoing collaboration. Possibly, Arndt had only gotten EpVII to early draft-stage when Lucasfilm sold to Disney, which meant it fell under the scrutiny of a new level of management and then slipped behind completion. But by the time Kasdan and Abrams came onboard, the screenplay must have been ragged around the edges for quite some time, not gelling, necessitating their script-doctoring over winter 2013.
I can only loosely suggest that Eps VIII and Eps IX still only exist as Lucas' treatments; possibly some development commenced on the EpVIII screenplay, but may have been shelved to accommodate changes of perspective and story-arc that swept through the VII revision. That all depends if Abrams is going to direct the next two films, how much input he might like over the final product. I'd guess if he's started the trilogy, which will be more tightly-planned than the previous two, then he'll have a vested personal interest in helping shape them, even if he refrains from directing and acts as producer.
John I still hold my argument that the Big Three held out until the script/storyline was rewritten to give them larger roles. Remember Mark Hamill saying "we are talking to them!" ? "And we want this, this and that (no CGI etc.). I believe this is what happened to Arndt's script. I guess time will tell when it comes out years after the movie. Lucas holds his cards tight to his chest and always has and always will. I remember back in the 1990's when the Star Wars forum was launched and Lucas had made the statement he would not do VII, VIII, and IX. I knew then that there would be those movies and predicted that on the forum and was ran off the board for it. Lucas is a genius pure and simple, he knew then the movies would be made but not until after he sold the company.
I'm left wondering where the jawas are. Some people seem to be wearing their robes yet are too tall. No small people, no droids, all humans unless they plan on adding digital masks later. There is nothing there to excite or disappoint me so after seeing them, I feel the same as I did before seeing them which is cautiously optimistic. These pictures only clarify that this is indeed Tatooine.
All the more reason to believe these images were released as part of a contolled 'leak'. They give very little away, whilst leaving us feeling more confident/enthusiastic in the production than we did before. That sneaky Abrams!
It's so obvious that this is part of their marketing campaign. What better way to build hype for an already very highly anticipated movie than to hold all of the information from grubbing fans all over the world and leak little tidbits to keep us all interested and excited? They know that this is unlike any film that's ever been made in the past and it must be handled with a certain manner of delicacy.
clone wars in the yoda arc a force specter(maybe they are the wills) tells yoda that there is another skywalker. Before luke and Leia was born. T
So many think its luke and Leia. But you can't say that isn't not Anakin the specter are talking about. It can then be either a Anakins dark side or that he has siblings.
Returning to tatooine and maybe a tuskan raider city can be a indication that there might are a skywalker hiding.
Or, the Other Skywalker is Leia's daughter ... not impossible. May explain why Leia may not have been fully-able to develop her own powers because she hasn't the capability.
Remember the films are the canon now. Yoda tells Luke to train his sister when he passes. To pass on what he has learned. I believe Leia is a Jedi now whether she is in a role of a political figure or not. She might have trained her daughter. There is no other Skywalker other than Luke and Leia you have to revisit the films. Which have been noted as the true canon now.
I would like to clear up this another Skywalker line from the CW right now. It was in refrence to Luke and Leia because Yoda was getting glimpses into the future.
I thought the same thing as Cylon, just a smattering of future visions. I guess anything's possible but then wouldn't Yoda tell Luke that "there are other Skywalkers" instead of just "another". Or do people think he was not referring to Leia in VI (which I would not buy at all)?
Michael The explosion I think was Alderaan. And his visions into the future didn't have to be in order. What Yoda learned from the glimpse at the future was that Anakin was going to have an offspring and that Anakin turned to the Dark side. This is a stretch here but I don't think Yoda knew about Leia at this point because he seemed surprised when he found out Padme was carrying twins. This is insignificant just food for thought.
Rocket Yoda absolutely meant Leia. In the following scene Obi-Wan confirms that Leia is the other when Luke realizes that she was his sister. I think people have to stop looking for things that aren't there. Things are all a lot simpler then people are making them out to be. A perfect example is the giant feminism, canon argument on the Lupita confirmation article.
Your right all of you. Leia is the or was the next Jedi. The films are canon and not the EU or the books. I hope we see her use the force in awesome ways in the film. I know Carrie is older now but she had to get into shape not just for cosmetics for the film for some reason. ;) It would be awesome if she wields a lightsabre.
Also go back to the episode IV she resisted the mind probe remember? Even Vader said no one had ever done that before. Why would Lucas write that into the script? He did not have to put that blurb in there unless it was meant for something. And we did not learn until ROTJ that she was Luke's sister.
John Boyega and Daisy Ridley are on Tatooine looking for Luke. "Hmm, I sense he is near. Somewhere in this marketplace!" Just then, behind a street vender: "Oh, no, Imperial troops!" "There they are, blast em!" blast! blast! blast! Big escape scene. Lots of violence and broken merchandise. Lots of innocent street venders get hurt. "Oh no! The Imperial troops blasted the giant pig pen!" Herd of giant pigs run out, cause more destruction. They never find Luke.
A very pointless scene, but hey, fans get to see some gritty Mcquarrie designs and practical effects!
JJ Abrams scripts are heavy on action, dynamic camera effects and less on logic; he can thrill audiences and have them overlook glaring mistakes or forget they are watching trash. But, with Arndt and Kasdan having made contributions, and Abrams respecting their experience, then maybe this could be one blockbuster which thrills visually AND narratively.
The Empire militarily was to Large at the end of ROTJ. And the death of Sidious and the second death star being destroyed did not end it I am sure. My bet is when the film opens there is still some systems under Empire control and under a new leader Sith or not. And that there will be Storm troopers rolling around the galaxy. Bet on it. We need a board to place these bets...;)
There are clearly several sets here. I see no signs of the AT-AT foot. Could the round building possibly be an arena where they hold gladiator like fights with the beast? Definitely not Jabba's palace, but it sure is inspired by ROTJ!!!
To the "too-many-humans" commentors: These shots are of people taking a break. Smoking, etc. They can easily put on their alien mask and poof, less humans. Many are wearing hoods so they don't need full headpieces, just face coverings. The rebreather can hide an alien face just as easily as human. The woman with the awesome high collar just needs to put that big helmet in her hand on, latch it down to the collar and become a big headed Gand-like alien.
So, I think this is clearly Tosche station, and Luke finally gets the chance to return to pick up some power converters.
ok so i have to agree with most here that this was a planned leak. the fact that we see humans and not aliens can easily be explained as not wanting to give away too muich. "ok we are going to take some shots, take off your masks, or hoods etc and hide them to keep from revealing who you really are playing. doesn't mean we will only see humans in this area and as non cgi as it is all looking so far(stoked about that)... i'm not sure we will see added cgi to make them aliens later, which brings me back to thinking they are just hiding masks etc... Just my opinion... could be totally off base though...
earth shattering....a giant pig, a few anonymous characters, maybe a gate, and the same 6 pics taken at 39 different angles. i wouldn't be surprised if these "leaked" photos weren't simply press releases...i do appreciate the post, but i don't think i will check out anymore pics until an official release, i don't think i want the surprise ruined and i remember that photo, which was a concept art piece, not a photo, of some sub/blimp/ship looking thing from Phantom Menace...it crawled through the web for weeks as "leaked" and then "first release"...it became redundant and then just tiresome and took some of the fun out of it, i want the first look at the last hurrah with the original cast to be memorable...
I do not know if you guys read the comments or not but one stood out for me. A female posted and by her avatar picture she is hot. She said or asked why they would have to bring Tattoine back into the film that "Tattoine is so ghetto!" she stated. She received a reply from someone saying "Space Racist!" LOL funniest thing I read in a while. Cracked me up to know end...lol
Image #6: Makes me think of a cult that worships Darth Vader. They live to take revenge on his death, directed at Luke, Leia, Han and their families...
- I think that maybe The creature is a transport for main characters, maybe such as Luke and Leia, giving the sensation of their parents (Ani&Padmè) in EpII
- I think the main indoor scenario could be a BIG BANG CANTINA CLUB BAR. Remember the frustration on George Lucas for the Cantina scene in EpIV. They have this time to do it in a BIG SCALE.
- I think we are not gonna be stuck for a while in Tatooine like in EpI. I think is a quick recap, maybe with a fight and a few scenes.
- I really don't think we are gonna see Hutts in Tatooine, but I don't discard that the Hutt Clan could get back in other planets like Nal Hutta's moon NAR SHADDAA I really hope to se that place in the Galaxy and Byss :)
- They had to took this photos while they were filming in interiors, a perfect time to take photos of the set without showing something WOOW and leak them. So I think that's the reason whe don't see any Aliens, they are all inside, filming. The people in the photos are extras and maybe bad guys for the exterior scenes.
There must be some mistake. This is not... oh, god. Sand, dirtiness, bizzarre oriental-designed characters, a giant creature moved by 5 men "in his belly"... Just wow!
I love this and hate this at the same time. Couldn't resist looking and I'm glad I did...the stuff looks great, authentic. But I'm sad because I've already spoiled some of the movie. Please TMZ no more!
Can. Not. Resist.
ReplyDeletethe comments on that site are ridiculous.....
ReplyDeleteSome of them are, but most of them aren't. What do you suggest? Remove them?
DeleteI suggest that those negative nancies see the movie before judging on just pictures lol.
DeleteI translated the aurebesh on the sign. It looks like it simply says "WARNING".

If that is the case, it'd only make sense that her influence over the new political system would only aid Luke in building the new Jedi order from the ground up. It probably won't be as strong as it once was, but that could be the weakness that the antagonistic force uses against them.
DeleteQuite so.
DeleteThat sounds a lot like the Arndt script, but I'm not surprised. IJ wants it out their so people will be sureised when they see the story.
DeleteThis is a massive breach of contact! who ever took these photos will will lose there job and NEVER work in the film industry again.
ReplyDeleteDisney do not tolerate leaks! someone is getting sued.
this seems way too planned to me, theres no image of any major stars, no story line giveaway, everyone is looking into the lens! it would have been very easy to get caught!
Delete^ I agree with Michael. The fact that these 'leaked' photos are still available to view on TMZ speaks volumes. Disney would have instantly jumped all over any true leak.
Deleteyes the pictures don't tell any big news.
Deletenothing we din't know.
It wouldn't be long till there gone!
DeleteWho gives a crap
DeleteA lot of people, you disgruntled piece of bantha poodio
Delete<--- is more than a good portion of a lot of people.
DeleteMy guess would be that someone working for TMZ infiltrated the set and posed as a photographer taking production stills. That's why people appear to be posing.
DeleteCool- now the big 3 in costume, thanks!
ReplyDeleteFrom what you know at this point.
ReplyDelete3 sets, a tower, a spaceshipwreck and this alian house.

Looks nothing like it >.>
DeleteHamm market or dualing arena maybe.
ReplyDeleteumm guys..
ReplyDeletehttp://instagram.com/p/ouS8AGs_X5/
Is this an old picture or new???
It's from the old workshop.
DeleteWell it can't be Tatooine...there is only one sun in the photos. :)
ReplyDeleteHeh heh.
DeleteHard Case: thread winner. :)
DeleteDefinitely Ralph McQuarries Artwokr involved. Jabba's Palace original entrance: http://bensbargains.net/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/jabbas-palace-gate.jpg
ReplyDeleteThat is exactly what I was thinking! I would love it if they use a lot of his unused concepts. There was such gold in those designs.
DeleteI'm getting tired of them relying on McQuarrie instead of coming up with something new.
DeleteI'm a bit concerned by the lack of prosthetics and makeup used for the extras, but other than that things seem to be coming along very nicely! Bringing back the grittiness of the OT indeed!
ReplyDeleteMost of them are sand people, you can see one of them with a mask in his hand, check out picture 30 and 32 for example.
DeleteGood catch!
DeleteThat doesn't look like a sandperson mask in that guy's hand in 32. Looks more like a desert rebreather mask for a human.
DeleteAnd the woman in pictures 35 and 44 is definitely no Tusken Raider. Looks more like a human religious leader of some sort.
It's hard for me to see the pictures clearly enough right now to make the destinction, since my computer at work has a terrible glare at this time in the morning, but I'll take your work for it Dekka.
DeleteCool. And, as always, I could very easily be full of it. ;^)
DeleteGiven that there is a moisture vaporator in a few of the shots, I think this is almost certainly Tatooine. But one thing strikes me as odd here - lots of humans, but where are the aliens? If this were Jabba's palace, as some have suggested, or either Mos Eisley or Mos Espa, there would almost certainly be some poor ol' sweaty bastids in creature masks somewhere in the shots.
ReplyDeleteI suspect this may very well be some location on Tatooine that we haven't seen before.
DeleteYeah, I agree. Especially since there's at least one vaporator on the set.
DeleteI'm wondering now about that cable fence with the aurebesh "Warning" sign.
DeletePicture 12, the sign on that fence says "warning" hmm what could be on the other side??
ReplyDeletePicture 12, the sign on that fence says "warning" hmm what could be on the other side??
ReplyDeleteArndt's script.
DeleteMy immediate image is of a penned herd of big CG beasties - possibly the same species as the fat grey pig-monster - which stampede once the explosions begin?
DeleteLooking at all these images makes me jealous that our scoop with the Pinewood pic happened on Saturday and very few people saw it. :(
ReplyDeleteWhat was your scoop?
DeletePicture from the Pinewood set clearly depicting Tatooine...
DeleteHey, I found it:
Deletehttp://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=828412
Very cool! I missed this pic too, VH. (And is it just me, or does it look like a completely different set from what we're seeing in the TMZ photos?)
DeleteAnybody else think the costumes look like something from Blade Runner or the Dune remake (and see this as a definite good thing)?
ReplyDeleteI think they fit in perfectly with the aesthetic of the prequels which after all covered Tatooine comprehensively. Any one of the costumes could have been slotted into Mos Espa, or the Podrace Arena bleachers effortlessly. Typical Tatooinian garb features long, earth-hued robes, hoods and the odd technological adornment.
DeleteIn fact, Michael Kaplan, the costume designer of EVII, worked on Blade Runner as his first working experience in hollywood. But I think the pictures show more resemblance to his latest work on the Star Trek reboots..
DeleteAh right, I see what you mean.
Deletedidn't George lucas right the story for these movies as part of the deal of selling to Disney?
ReplyDeleteyou mean write?
DeleteI believe that Lucas wrote the treatments for Episodes VII-IX and then had Arndt develop them further, but still technically in treatment form, so there must have been an ongoing collaboration.
DeleteI can only loosely suggest that Eps VIII and Eps IX still only exist as Lucas' treatments; possibly some development commenced on the EpVIII screenplay, but may have been shelved to accommodate changes of perspective and story-arc that swept through the VII revision. That all depends if Abrams is going to direct the next two films, how much input he might like over the final product. I'd guess if he's started the trilogy, which will be more tightly-planned than the previous two, then he'll have a vested personal interest in helping shape them, even if he refrains from directing and acts as producer.
DeleteJohn I still hold my argument that the Big Three held out until the script/storyline was rewritten to give them larger roles.
DeleteA few pics look like a pod racing engine.
ReplyDeletePod-racers and... Don't forget we've seen the foot of an at-at! Just a piece of trash or a full-functional walker??
DeleteBut doesn't that one object look suspiciously like a pod racer? Even in close ups?
DeleteIt makes sense. Pod racing engines and the feet of old At-Ats are just the sort of things one might expect to see at a flea market on Tatooine.
DeleteI'm left wondering where the jawas are.
ReplyDeleteAll the more reason to believe these images were released as part of a contolled 'leak'. They give very little away, whilst leaving us feeling more confident/enthusiastic in the production than we did before. That sneaky Abrams!
DeleteIt's so obvious that this is part of their marketing campaign. What better way to build hype for an already very highly anticipated movie than to hold all of the information from grubbing fans all over the world and leak little tidbits to keep us all interested and excited? They know that this is unlike any film that's ever been made in the past and it must be handled with a certain manner of delicacy.
DeleteIt looks like that Planet from Star Trek V Nimbus something... This was a planned leak.
ReplyDeletelove it, looks at though it is like a part of Jabba's Palace that we did not see before, cool, can hardly wait
ReplyDeletekinda small for jabba's palace.
DeleteYes this can be home to some Tusken Raiders, maybe there are a link to the abduction of Shmi Skywalker........
ReplyDeleteYou know........... there is another Skywalker......
I'm confused why people keep bringing this line up in relation to VII. When Yoda delivers the line in VI it's pretty clear he means Leia.
Deleteclone wars in the yoda arc a force specter(maybe they are the wills) tells yoda that there is another skywalker. Before luke and Leia was born. T
DeleteSo many think its luke and Leia.
DeleteLeia didn't even have a child in ROTJ. Why would you think that?
DeleteAs for The Clone Wars, just another reason that crappy show should be discarded from canon with everything other than the episodic movies.
DeleteI would like to clear up this another Skywalker line from the CW right now. It was in refrence to Luke and Leia because Yoda was getting glimpses into the future.
DeleteDarth Cylon
DeleteIf you remember the arc, the explosions and the sounds where all form before the twins where born. the last sound was vaders breathing.
I thought the same thing as Cylon, just a smattering of future visions. I guess anything's possible but then wouldn't Yoda tell Luke that "there are other Skywalkers" instead of just "another". Or do people think he was not referring to Leia in VI (which I would not buy at all)?
DeleteMichael
DeleteThe explosion I think was Alderaan.
Rocket
DeleteYoda absolutely meant Leia.
DeleteAlso go back to the episode IV she resisted the mind probe remember? Even Vader said no one had ever done that before. Why would Lucas write that into the script? He did not have to put that blurb in there unless it was meant for something. And we did not learn until ROTJ that she was Luke's sister.
DeleteJohn Boyega and Daisy Ridley are on Tatooine looking for Luke.
ReplyDeleteA very pointless scene, but hey, fans get to see some gritty Mcquarrie designs and practical effects!
Deletepretty sure i remember them saying they wanted to focus more on the characters in this trilogy and less action, but still make it exciting ofcourse.
DeleteThe odds are almost entirely in our favor.
DeleteThe Empire militarily was to Large at the end of ROTJ. And the death of Sidious and the second death star being destroyed did not end it I am sure. My bet is when the film opens there is still some systems under Empire control and under a new leader Sith or not. And that there will be Storm troopers rolling around the galaxy. Bet on it. We need a board to place these bets...;)
DeleteBREAKING:
ReplyDeleteLupita Nyong'o and Gwendoline Christie officially added to the EpVII cast!
first light saber fight from episode 7
Deletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBPviD44qJw
Gwendoline Christie the new lightsaber champ.m
Something tells me someone just got canned.
ReplyDeleteIs that Lupita in pic number 44?
ReplyDeleteThere are clearly several sets here. I see no signs of the AT-AT foot. Could the round building possibly be an arena where they hold gladiator like fights with the beast? Definitely not Jabba's palace, but it sure is inspired by ROTJ!!!
ReplyDeleteTo the "too-many-humans" commentors: These shots are of people taking a break.
ReplyDeleteSo, I think this is clearly Tosche station, and Luke finally gets the chance to return to pick up some power converters.
ha... excactly what i was just posting... you beat me too it...
Deleteok so i have to agree with most here that this was a planned leak. the fact that we see humans and not aliens can easily be explained as not wanting to give away too muich.
ReplyDeleteGot me thinking why on earth would Luke head back to Tatooine???
ReplyDeleteearth shattering....a giant pig, a few anonymous characters, maybe a gate, and the same 6 pics taken at 39 different angles. i wouldn't be surprised if these "leaked" photos weren't simply press releases...i do appreciate the post, but i don't think i will check out anymore pics until an official release, i don't think i want the surprise ruined and i remember that photo, which was a concept art piece, not a photo, of some sub/blimp/ship looking thing from Phantom Menace...it crawled through the web for weeks as "leaked" and then "first release"...it became redundant and then just tiresome and took some of the fun out of it, i want the first look at the last hurrah with the original cast to be memorable...
ReplyDeleteI do not know if you guys read the comments or not but one stood out for me.
ReplyDeleteImage #6: Makes me think of a cult that worships Darth Vader. They live to take revenge on his death, directed at Luke, Leia, Han and their families...
ReplyDeleteit looks to me as if the new jedi order is established there these guys look like jedi one girl has a lightsaber on here chest if u look closely
ReplyDeleteMy Thoughts to you:
ReplyDelete- I think that maybe The creature is a transport for main characters, maybe such as Luke and Leia, giving the sensation of their parents (Ani&Padmè) in EpII
Just wow!
ReplyDeleteI love this and hate this at the same time. Couldn't resist looking and I'm glad I did...the stuff looks great, authentic. But I'm sad because I've already spoiled some of the movie. Please TMZ no more!
ReplyDeleteIan - You don't wanna see the shots of the part constructed Millenium Frickin' Falcon then? No? Don't go the TMZ then.
ReplyDeleteLenny Kravitz pic 43?????????
ReplyDelete
