No, this is not a joke, April Fools Day is tomorrow. This is a real story. A guy dressed in full Darth Vader costume submitted the required paperwork and $250,000 deposit to register as a candidate, a day ahead of the deadline for the Ukraine Presidential Elections...
From TorontoSun:
"After winning intra-party primaries by a landslide, comrade Vader will be our party's candidate," reads a translated statement from Dmitry Golubov, head of the Internet Party of Ukraine, on the party's website.
The Sith Lord could be running against as many as 14 others who have signed up; five of them have so far been registered by the election commission.
Golubov, an alleged cyber criminal, founded the IPU in 2009. It was recognized as an official party in 2010.
Vader received about 3% of the write-in vote in 2012 parliamentary elections, according to Russia-based RT news service.
Presidential elections are scheduled for May 25 in the troubled country thought to be under threat of a Russian invasion.

Thanks to Rebel Scum for the video.
LOL omg wow that is insane, i hope he wins
ReplyDeleteIf he wins that means we're all fucked.
DeleteI find your lack of faith disturbing.
DeleteOh dude I hope he wins also!
DeleteGod Bless (and no rude replies please)
P.s. Dandino, In case you didn't know, I replied to your reply about you breaking into Hasbro.
If he wins, what does that say about democracy?
ReplyDeleteSo this is how liberty dies, with thunderous applause.
DeleteWell it's not much different than what's happening here in the US right now...
DeleteWhy, you guys have Marvel characters or something in the running? :)
DeleteNo, just Batman..
DeleteSpeaking of Batman, I know this is kind of off subject, but have any of you guys seen How It Should Have Ended (aka HISHE) on YouTube. They are hilarious! They even have SW HISHE's! And if you are wondering why I am associating Batman with these guys, just watch the HISHE super cafe videos. You'll see why. Sorry this was off topic. Just thought you guys should know.
DeleteGod Bless (and no rude replies please)
I absolutely love this one.
ReplyDeleteJust imagine him standing before the UN making a plea for assistance in crushing a rebellion.
He just stands there making a Force Choke gesture when he get's upset..
DeleteIs the guy in the background supposed to be a Jedi? Is he in line to be secretary of state?
ReplyDeleteAlso, if this "Vader" gets elected, could multiple people serve because if he's in the suit the whole time, maybe one day Fred's wearing the suit and the next it's John. The public would never know!
And can't decide whether the entire cabinet would be dressed as Imperial officers or as stormtroopers..
DeleteIf you want to go with a more dignified look, the Imperial Officers look is the way to go.
DeleteHowever, if you want interchangeability, one can't go wrong with Storm Trooper armor.
Taking this to it's reasonable end point.. All the imp officers would be wearing Guy Fawkes masks
DeleteAnd in other news his slogan will be "This country will be operational on schedule"
ReplyDeleteTo which the UN would respond, "The emperor does not share your optomistic appraisal of the situation."
DeleteI long for the day when political indeavors are undergone by means of Star Wars puns and references. They wouldn't be any more of a joke than they are now.
I know, right? Nothing seems to go through...
DeleteDoes anyone know what his platform is? I want to start a 'New Order' party in the US
ReplyDeleteI believe he is in the "Internet Party" from what I have read.
DeleteYeah, guys, that is Ukraine! :) Welcome to UA)
ReplyDeleteGive a new meaning to the EU doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteyeah.. European Union lol
DeleteFirst attempt for search of video, here's one of them I find: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9h4VA3bc-8
ReplyDeleteBilly Dee Williams is dancing on Dancing with the Stars tonight. Let's vote to keep him in!
ReplyDeleteGuys, let's go get this popular. #VADER4PRESIDENT2014
ReplyDeleteI agree! #VADER4PRESIDENT2014
DeleteGod Bless (and no rude replies please)
They should try doing this in some like much more politically insignificant country. Why? He may actually win.
ReplyDeleteanother disappointing Star Wars news week...
ReplyDeleteAwesome video! I'd vote for him. He seems nice.
ReplyDeleteActually, i've been keeping up to date with Ukraine news recently due to the recent troubles there and, from what i can tell, Vader is quite a public figure. He has gone to anti-drug raids, stormed the Ukrainian Ministry of Justice and, jokingly, declared himself mayor of a city because "the Emperor demanded it".
ReplyDeleteI would vote for him just to see him never taking off his helmet during his mandate and everybody wondering "who is this guy". Then after 4 years, ok who gives a *, let's vote him again!
But seriously, check out the video where he gets carried into a city on a chair by stormtroopers and a guy in a Yoda costume.
I'm glad it's Vader and not Palpy, that mask is terrible...
DeleteIMO, Lucas Films should just send the guy a copy of the original Vader costume and a letter wishing him luck in the elections. Fighting for public welfare in a country which is still struggling to recover from civil war and external pressure is a hard job. The fact that he does it dressed as Vader only makes it harder. Imagine having to wear that suit all summer! It might as well look good if you're gonna be sweaty as hell when you take it off in the evening.
DeleteOne clearly imagines George Lucas and the Disney executives seeing this and muttering towards the figure on the screen: "We will be watching your career with great interest."
