Another newcomer has been attached to direct stand-alone Star Wars film. It's Chronicle and new The Fantastic Four director Josh Trank...
From StarWars.com:
In addition to the episodes of a new Star Wars trilogy, Lucasfilm and Disney continue development of multiple stand-alone movies that will offer new stories beyond the core Saga. The newest director to come on board is Josh Trank.
"We're thrilled to welcome Josh into the family," says Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. "He is such an incredible talent and has a great imagination and sense of innovation. That makes him perfectly suited to Star Wars, and for this new slate of movies that reach beyond the core characters and storylines of Episodes I through IX."
Trank states, "The magic of the Star Wars Universe defined my entire childhood. The opportunity to expand on that experience for future generations is the most incredible dream of all time."
Trank captured imaginations worldwide with his critically lauded directorial debut Chronicle, a fresh and engaging take on the superhero genre. Trank is currently at work on The Fantastic Four for 20th Century Fox.
He is young (5 years younger than me) and he is promising. I like him. :)

ReplyDeleteI don't care if they look like Sloth from Goonies if they can match the acting ability and chemistry of the big 3 from the OT.
DeleteJJ's cast is beyond amazing.
DeleteThe directors they choose are perfect.
The only problem I have right now is with Gary Wittha.
I hope they all look like Sloth. He's in all my fantasies
DeletePeople still want looks over substance? Are you 12 years old?
DeleteI can see it now...our heroes pinned down behind enemy lines...wookies swing in to the rescue led by Sloth...wookie war cries can be heard in the background...in the forefround, "Hey you guys!" (This is probably the best fan-fiction i've ever read if I do say so myself :) )
Deletecorrection - wookiees*
DeleteI like this choice. He has the potential to make a very interesting Star Wars movie
ReplyDeleteGoood, Goood. They're hiring the right choices for the next Star Wars movies. JJ Abrams, Gareth Edwars and now, Josh Trank!
ReplyDeleteProbably right.
DeleteBut Gareth and Josh are begginers in the industry and they will have to do all producers said. Thank god its Lucas in one side and hopping Disney producers will not ruin it interfering in scripts, cgi and other silly staff like other movies (from Disney or not) like Iron Mans, Spidermans, Supermans, Pirates......only to make happy young generations... Star wars doesn't need this...
You can't say with any certainty that these are right or wrong choices especially for the spin-off movies because you don't even know anything about what these movies will entail.
DeleteYep, but Gareth had its creative freedom (?) in Godzilla. And I just want more Star Wars! Hehe
DeleteHe is perfect. They're choosing young directors with a lot of potential in the sci-fi genre. That's a good thing.
ReplyDeleteHis movie, Chronicle, was amazingly fresh and original, I loved it.
I also like that KK said: "this new slate of movies that reach beyond the core characters and storylines of Episodes I through IX"
This means we can expect something new, and not just biopics about old characters.
She said core character not old characters. It's still very possible these movies could be about any secondary or minor character or ones we haven't seen yet.
DeleteThe Porkins Chronicles, Vol. 1
DeleteLol
DeleteI'm glad a lot of news is surfacing...would really like to know what the spin-offs are going to be about. From the article on starwars.com it seems to confirm that they won't center around any main characters from the saga.
ReplyDeleteIf FF is any indicator, he won't be on this project when it comes time to go to camera. He's not disciplined enough to get things into place and be happy with it in the manner that a movie that needs a definitive release date needs.
ReplyDeleteHere's some cool photography of LEGO Star Wars toys on Hoth.

fantastic four sucked... i hope he doesn't fuck this up
ReplyDeleteHe is directing the new rebooted Fantastic Four movie (2015), not the old ones.
DeleteWhich look very much like they will be even worse
DeleteNice he will have a long time to prepare a great film for fans!
ReplyDeleteThere's lots of Star Wars news these past couple days.
ReplyDeleteI like this trend. I hope it continues.
agreed :) & hope to see some official production photos soon, for example: Luke in Jedi robes
Delete-
Since they have confirmed 2 spinoff director in a short time, it is plausible to assume they might soon reveal a third one :)
I love how I was starving for new not too long ago. Now I'm so stuffed I hear important updates or see leaked photos and go "Meh".
DeleteHAHAHHA!!! *pats my satisfied tummy*
For the fanboy/girl, it is time to eat as well. Good food, hm? Good, hmm? :-B
I want a see a film made around the time of Order 66. Jedi's on the run throughout the Galaxy. They can't all have been stood in the firing line when the Emporer gave the command.
ReplyDeleteGareth = Boba fett movie
ReplyDeleteJosh = Young Han solo movie
Who gets the third one? Red 5
Neil Blomkamp.
DeleteMaybe so, but I for one hoping for Boba Fett directed Joe Johnston. Johnston had a hand in creating the character in the first place, and has been quoted as saying he much he would like to one day make a solo Fett film gong back over two decades. Last but not least, his already has a recent working relationship with Disney via Captain America. If you ask me, its about time LucasFilm finally let the guy do his thing. He's been doing pre-production inside his head for years...
DeleteScrew a Han movie I want an Ewan obi movie between 3-4 protecting a young Luke make it a western
ReplyDeleteScrew a Han movie I want an Ewan obi movie between 3-4 protecting a young Luke make it a western
ReplyDeleteI'm starting to really wonder if the first one is really a Boba Fett movie, then what's wrong with announcing it already? Same with any known character. It very well may be that these spin-off movies will deal with characters we first see in these new movies and the OT characters will be SOL.
ReplyDeleteBoba fett and young Han solo movies confirmed by Disney shortly after they bought lucasfilm
Deleteno they are not.
DeleteAnd if Han dies in this new trilogy, then making a Young Solo film is rather anticlimactic, particularly if the Falcon is inherited by a younger generation fr the ST. Makes more sense to go with brand-new characters with no continuity or baggage - the ST offers lip service to long-time fans, and the spin-offs need to dare to open the galaxy up in every direction in exciting, fresh ways.
DeleteI feel that a Han Solo film would be anticlimactic regardless. But with a Boba Fett you have a popular character that is pretty much a blank slate with all kinds of possibilities if you have a creative team willing and able to take some risks and is willing to retcon the silly "death" scene in some logical way.
DeleteIf the Fett film is to be directed by anyone other than Joe Johnston, who initially conceived of such a film long before the Disney acquisition and had a hand in creating the character, I will be very, very displeased...
DeleteI can't wait for a Star Wars/Marvel crossover film.

DeleteIs there any doubt that Iron Man would win that one?
