Earlier this week, MTV had the opportunity to catch up with "Oblivion" director Joseph Kosinski to talk about the recently released trailer. Of course they couldn't help but ask Kosinski about another highly anticipated project to which his name has been attached as a possible candidate: the new "Star Wars" movie.
So has Kosinski spoken with LucasFilm?
"I have not, I have not," he said. "For me, I feel like, between 'Tron' and 'Oblivion,' I've gotten to fulfill my 'Star Wars' fantasies, in a way. It's flattering of you to mention, but like everyone else, I'm interested to see where they take it. I actually know the writer on it very well; he's a fantastic writer, and I think he's perfect for the job, so I'm sure it will be a great story, and I can't wait to see what they do with it."Source: mtv.com
Kosinski said he has high hopes for the film and that he hopes whoever directs it will be able to showcase his or her own take on the epic franchise.
"It is tough. I mean, whoever does it hopefully will have the freedom to put their own stamp on it and present a unique vision," he said. "Hopefully it will look and be something that no one's expecting as the first ones were when they came out in the late '70s. It's a tricky challenge, but they've got really good people on it, so I'm sure they'll figure something out."
