Rumor: Episode 7 to Use Characters from The Expanded Universe?

Last week there were some reports that the next trilogy will focus on the kids of the main protagonists from the Original Trilogy. Now a few more reports suggest that the kids (and even grandkids) of Luke, Han and Leia will be the main characters of the new trilogy. For that story and more read after the jump.

UPDATE!
After this article was published many people accused this blog of being part of a conspiracy spreading false rumors and to be connected to one called Supershadow. Sorry to disappoint some of you but it is not true. I didn't even know who Superhsadow is a few months ago. Most of the articles here have sources that are always quoted so before posting any accusations read carefully. The only purpose of this blog is to keep you posted of all the info (including rumors from unreliable sources) about the upcoming movie from our favorite franchise. If you still have problems go somewhere else.

Lytherus.com reported that according to one of their sources:
the new trilogy will center around Jaina, Jacen, and Anakin Solo, the protagonists of most of the EU (Expanded Universe) story lines. Anakin Solo, the youngest of the Solo children, may be replaced by Luke’s son Ben Skywalker, who is also featured prominently in EU story lines such as Fate of the Jedi.

Also according to a reliable source close to Nerdvana.com:
All three of the original cast will be back in Episode VII. They all have contracts now. And we’re introducing Han and Leia’s child and grandchild.
If this rumor is right then the questionis "are they picking one of the three established kids (Jaina, Jacen or Anakin) and pretending the others never existed? Or they could be picking up where we currently are in the EU – Anakin and Jacen are dead, Jaina is carrying on the Solo/Skywalker legacy and Jacen’s offspring, Allana, is the grandchild next in line to take center stage. This also fits with rumors that the main character will be a female."

Also there were some more interesting rumors from the same source.

Regarding release date:
No surprise we may be looking at a May 2015 release (this keeps in line with every other Star Wars live-action release); specifically, May 29, 2015.
 Regarding spin-offs:
No on Yoda spin-off movie, George doesn’t want it. Yoda is a supporting character and will stay that way.
Regarding rumors about different directors taking on Episodes VIII and IX:
JJ’s contract has a clause for all three movies and an additional three of Lucas/Disney choosing if everyone melds well on the first one. This is typical of these types of contracts; gives everyone an out if needed.

 Regarding novels:
There are three new books we want Timothy Zahn to write.
For me Timothy Zahn is definitely the best writer from all the Expanded Universe novels. It would be really great if he'll be back for more. Hope this source is legit but still this all is just a rumor.

I'm pretty sure the Wookies will have a bigger part in Episode 7.

  3. If it focus' s on jaina jacen and anakin then chewie will be involved, if they fo the route of jaina allana and ben chewie is dead at that point.

  4. The simple thing is to carry on where the EU left off 45ABY or go in a little later then you can have Jaina , Ben & Allana carrying the torch & also Allana can carry on to VIII & IX as the main protagonist .

  5. Ben and Allana? would it be skipping to Episode X, XI, and XII then going back to VII with Jaina and Jacen?

  6. i heard about Jaina and Jacen in Entertainment Weekly a few weeks back.

    6. Absolutely should ignore the EU. After the Vong war the EU seemed to be pulled out of the crapper. The quality of the series dropped completely off the radar.

      Delete
    7. Personaly I think that they should go along with the EU up UNTIL the NJO series BEGINS, and then have episode's 7-9 replace the EU from that point on. That way the books that are actually decent will be cannon and the death of the SW universe will not.

They could come up with a new threat that actually coincides with the plot of Good vs Evil, Jedi vs Sith- rather than Jedi vs Aliens.

As Anon above stated the vong war was an absolute peice of trash. But as far as I have read (Over 100 EU books) before then it is great and goes along wonderfully with the movies and cartoon series.

  8. My ultimate hope is that they make 7-9 about the New Jedi Order series... It would be very easy to do and there were so many battles they could just montage showing what happens and then focus in on the main points obviously starting off with a little background of Han, Leia, Luke, and Mara and their kids before they kick things off maybe in the scroll or maybe in a flashback idk, but I think they should totally do Youzhoun Vong war it is amazing and it is a new bad guy instead of worn out empire forces. Then it is setup perfectly for Legacy series, then Fate series.... However I do think it could be possible to combine NJO and Legacy... First movie and a half make it NJO and then boom Jacen to Caedus and then into Legacy... Then they could have a hardcore trilogy of Fate of the Jedi series which is by far the best of the three series just because we get to see the Lost tribe and the epic Evil bad guy Abeloth... These storylines are too good not to make a movie about them, if they just ignore them and make a new movie I think it will just upset more fans and then ignorant masses will love it, but then the Star Wars timeline will be all screwed up and be useless... By far if they ignore this storyline material I think its just a big waste of time, all you have to do is take the books montage lots of battles and focus of the main storyline and it will be a hit with the hardcore fans and everyone else will love it too

    1. I Disagree a MILLION %. The Vong War and then the Swarm War and then the Caedeus story line absolutely destroyed the universe that SW is in.

  9. Nobody wants to watch the series based on a female jedi, it will end up like the next karate kid, call it and me what you want, but it will not appeal to the masses, they will be wasting three movies.

  10. firstly, they need a story like the luke/vader one. you cant have fighting just for the sake of it, there needs to be a reason and a heart to the story otherwise it will play like a video game...or the presquels!!!

  12. These new movies need the quality of story, plot and acting of the original trilogy with the effects of the prequel trilogy! No stupid characters like Jar Jar, and ignore all EU crap too.

The EU was only created to fill a fan demand where no movies were being made - there are soooo many things wrong with the EU stories - Sidious died by Vader turning good and chucking him off a ledge, he doesn't get cloned to the point of weakness to end up getting shot in the back by Han. Chewie doesn't die, the Vong war was dumb (no cool lightsaber action).

That's what's gonna keep fans interested - no one wants to see a star wars move with no jedi on sith lightsaber action!

I do agree though - Cant have violence for the sake of violence, there does need to be some deep routed reason and passion about it - but what, a relative goes to the darkside has been done to death! What will these new movies do?

As for the female protagonist - whats wrong with that, as long as she's hot and acts the part really well. It will certainly help the female fans to the theatre. The prequel trilogy took this approach with starting Anakin as a kid (quite frankly I thought that sucked - Anakin should already have been grown up in Episode 1. Might also have avoided the need of Jar Jar binks too if it wasn't being specifically directed at kids - no need to direct the franchise at kids, its star wars - kids are gonna watch these movies regardless).

  13. Why do so many people keep talking about the EU material?!

How many times does Lucasfilm-Disney-Lucas-Kennedy-Abrams have to keep repeating there will be no EU in the new films? Is everyone deaf and/or can't read?!

    1. yeah gues that everyone is deaf stupid and blind

    2. I think you're the stupid one here. You should stop making things up and putting them in Disney's mouth.
They never said what you implied, all we know at this point is "it's an original story". Which could easily mean "takes place after 45ABY" (an era that is not covered by any books). We currently have a great jump-in point after the novel Crucible, the new trilogy could easy be an original story set after that. No knowledge of previous books required, anything necessary could be summarized in the opening text crawl.

Why do people keep acting like this has already been settled? Learn how to read, they haven't said anything either way yet. Hardcore Star Wars fans want an original story set in the same timeline as the books. They aren't some separate thing, they all happen in the same universe as the movies. Star Wars is Star Wars, there's only one continuity and that's how it should stay with the new movies.

      Delete
    3. actually i think they have already stated the new films would take place around 30 years after Jedi. i dont see how continuity from the eu could be followed unless it is all new characters and they dont mention anything that is happening in the books one way or the other. i hope they dont follow the books at all. i read the books and like a great deal of them, but i dont want a book eu rehash.

      Delete
  14. Sorry folks, but if there is no EU involved, then there is no point to making these. Between solos marriage, chewys death, the rebuilt jedi academy, etc... it can't be ignored. It is in the history of sw, accept it. It is canon and can't be ignored

    1. uuuhhhh...no...Lucas always stated that the films are the only cannon...books are just for fun...Kennedy herself has already stated no EU..and i for one am glad. Don't you want to see something new, unknown? you can always re-read your books

      Delete
    2. "uuuhhhh...no...Lucas always stated that the films are the only cannon..."

Liar. Lucas has had a heavy hand in the shaping of the book series. He was the one, for example, who decided that Anakin Solo should be killed off. He also gave the OK for chewie's death, among many other things. Anything major that the books do, they have to get the OK from Lucas.

      "books are just for fun"
Movies are just for fun. What, you actually think those are real?
It's all just for fun, it's also all just one universe. Star Wars is Star Wars. Books, movies, it's all the same universe.

"Kennedy herself has already stated no EU.."

Another lie, all we know at this point is "it's an original story". Which could easily mean "takes place after 45ABY" (an era that is not covered by any books). We currently have a great jump-in point after the novel Crucible, the new trilogy could easy be an original story set after that. No knowledge of previous books required, anything necessary could be summarized in the opening text crawl.

" Don't you want to see something new, unknown?"

Yes. Provided that it fits into the etablished continuity, by taking place in the era that is not covered by any books.
Nobody wants an existing book series to be adapted into the new trilogy. What we want is for the new trilogy to take place AFTER the books. Why is everyone so frickin STUPID that they can't even understand that.

      Delete
    3. apparently you are that stupid if you cannot understand that lucas himself said the films are the only cannon. His words, not mine. yes he did shape the books, but they are not cannon. he stated again and again that he would not follow book continuity when he saw a better story for the movies when filming the prequels. i meant the "just for fun" as yes he would allow books, but not at sacrificing a better movie. Liar? REALLY??? sounds as though you believe these movies to be true, i really don't mind much what happens in the end. you are the one saying it 'has' to be a certain way...grow up and get over it. if you are not grown up' learn to let it go before you grow up to be another nerd that claims jedi as his religion.

    4. on second thought, let me put it another way (i wrote the above)...here i am getting drawn into an argument over a movie series that everyone agrees is just a movie...a series that most of us here are apparently connected to, and at least a lot of us are too old to act juvenile about. I like SW, it is not my life, after all it is just for fun. If there is anything i can pass off to people just now becoming a fan, dont let it take over your life to the point where we all are arguing pointlessly. in the end, i will not call anyone stupid or nerdy over a movie, feel how you want and best of luck to you. i will concentrate on the fact that we are fans, and most of us happy to have more SW. Good luck to all, i hope it is worth all of our wait and i am happy to watch disney give this a shot, a gutsy move for good or bad.

    5. he stated again and again that he would not follow book continuity when he saw a better story for the movies when filming the prequels

The prequels DID follow book continuity for the main series of books.
Who do you think created Coruscant? Or how about the idea that Anakin would be burned by lava after a duel? Book fans knew of those things a decade before episode 3 was even announced. Why? Because they were shown, or spoken of, in the books, and the books are canon.

So it's likely that the sequels will fit in the continuity, as well. Especially since Lucas specifically told writers not to write anything past 45ABY (same as when he told them not to write about the Clone Wars, because he wanted to do it himself).

The books are canon because Lucas OKs them and their storylines. If he wanted to suddenly declare them non-canon, he should just not have approved their stories in the first place. As it is now, he should man-up and make a story that fits into the existing continuity THAT HE ACCEPTED, not be a pussy and delete everything just because he can't think of how to make it fit.

Thankfully the sequels will probably follow the continuity; I suspect that the recent (and sudden) focus on Mortis in the books was probably an order from Lucas (because of the Clone Wars episodes), and the "retirement" of Luke, Leia and Han at the end of Crucible were made to accommodate the upcoming trilogy (the actors are said to have "more minor roles" in the new trilogy, which could be why they "pass on the torch" in crucible at the end.)

Add to that, the fact that books are still coming out; if the movies weren't going to fit into the continuity, why haven't the books been canceled? One just came out 2 months ago and another one last month.

Also, though individual stand-alone books are still coming out, there is no major series planned in the near future, which is, I suspect, because the movies are going to be coming out soon and will take place after 45ABY, a period which is not covered in any books (as per orders by Lucas himself).

    6. Liar? REALLY??? sounds as though you believe these movies to be true

Do you know how to read? I was referring to your statement about how it was said that the book continuity would not be followed. It was false, nobody has ever said that (as of the time of this writing), we don't know anything either way yet.
Hence why I said, "liar". Ok I'll admit perhaps that was a bit strong, maybe you were just misinformed, but the point is, your statement was false.

    8. Sheesh you people are long winded! Well I loved fate of the Jedi and I haven't read anything yet since It was completed. I would love the trilogy to be based on the yuuzhan vong war though because I loved anakin solo and my favorite character is THE GANNER!!! Most epic beat down and sacrifice in all of star wars!!! But I don't think they could do it justice. So sadly I have resigned mysel to the fact that it will take place far after that. But I will love it for the simple fact that it is STAR WARS!! Stop acting like a bunch of Trekkies and lets all just celebrate!! Lol weirdos.

Well, you never know; perhaps some of the spin-offs will take place during the era between the Original series and the Sequel series.
After all, we only know for sure that the actual trilogy will be "a new story", but there will be many spin-offs too! So, let's keep our hopes up!

  15. From Lucas:

"That's because there isn't any story. I mean, I never thought of anything. And now there have been novels about the events after Episode VI, which isn't at all what I would have done with it. The Star Wars story is really the tragedy of Darth Vader. That is the story. Once Vader dies, he doesn't come back to life, the Emperor doesn't get cloned and Luke doesn't get married..."

No outsider is going to cram some EU crap into George's universe. SW canon is Episodes 1-6. And now, Episodes 7-9. That's it. EU never has been and never will be GEORGE LUCAS' SW canon.

    1. Anyone here remember Boba Fett's backstory from the 90's? That EU was shattered entirely with E2 (and yes i know they tried to salvage it by releasing more stories on why it was all misconceived or whatever). A few statements up as to why people knew about Coruscant and Vader being thrown into lava is that information was taken from unused script writes from Lucas himself, some dating back to the 70's, it isn't that Lucas followed the books, it was just the opposite:the books followed him. That is also where Assaj Ventress came from, she was replaced by Darth Maul for E1. I surely do not know if the new SW will have EU, but i doubt they will break their backs to follow it if the script strays from EU. And who sources the EU? Man, that would take some $ and man power to check against EU everytime the writer (whom has probably never read any EU) had great idea (then again, this is disney). I would imagine the books would not be cancelled, they are ready months in advance of printing and they will generate $, which is what this is all about in the end. I am sure they will get replaced with some other line as the movie comes out. Then again, Clone Wars was killed before its time, but i dont think they were a finished product, who knows? i wish they would do different time lines and story eras like X Men comics, maybe a classic lucas line, and the new disney line or whatever with 2 different time lines or a dozen, something for everyone. They may surprise everyone and follow EU to the letter...or never mention it so as not to upset as many people as possible...or shatter it entirely ( course, that is alot of history and i am sure they would REALLY look into this as it may cost them $) This is very interesting to see what disney does with this all...i cannot wait to see what unfolds. right now my vote is swaying to the middle of 'not upsetting as many fans as possible'...

  16. Sorry, but Lucas ruined the prequel trilogy; we - that being a large portion of Star Wars fans - wish he had zero say in the franchise, now that he's sold out to Disney it's completely possible. We WANT the EU to be featured, or at least acknowledged/somewhat used, in the new movies. Some of us didn't JUST grow up and love the OT. A lot of us grew up reading and loving the EU just as much! George can prattle on all he wants about his precious 'Vader's story', no one cares. If the New Trilogy doesn't use EU material, than it better be DAMN AMAZING. That's all there is to it.

TV is magic, it has that little off switch on the remote and everything...

  17. Folks I'm gonna tell it like it is. The new movies will have a plot that essentially ignores most of the EU storylines. You will however get some of the EU characters. The use of the EU Characters will make some hardcore fans soo happy they may explode in the theatres. The changes made to some of the EU characters regarding their origins, character development and specific plotlines will make others so mad that they may explode in the theatre. Everyone will have some sort of problem with these movies and they will relish the time they get to voice these opinions. Most Everyone will also have something they love about these movies and will also delight in the aforementioned opinion voicing. But unless Darth Vader himself comes off of the screen and makes sweet love to every adult member of the theatre and then pays for all of the younger peoples higher education costs and health insurance and some free cellphones..... No one will be completely satisfied by these movies. Except the few who may, due to chemical imbalance, or health reasons, hallucinate about the making love and free stuff... I think I will like it myself... But I will firmly tell Mr. Vader NO.....

    1. "Folks I'm gonna tell it like it is. The new movies will have a plot that essentially ignores most of the EU storylines."

Unless you have a secret inside source among the people making the movie, you're just making sh*t up. It may turn out that what you described is true, but at the point where you wrote this, you're just taking a wild guess, same as everybody else.

All we know at this point (and that includes you), is that "it's an original story". Which could easily mean "takes place after 45ABY" (an era that is not covered by any books). We currently have a great jump-in point after the novel Crucible, the new trilogy could easy be an original story set after that. No knowledge of previous books required, anything necessary could be summarized in the opening text crawl.

This would actually be the ideal scenario, not just for hardcore SW fans who have been following the series for 20+ years (yes, it's only ONE series, the books and movies are part of the same canon.), but even for casual, movie-only fans and even for entirely new watchers.

Why? because then if they want, they have 45 years worth of storyline to read if they care to. But if not? No knowledge of the books necessary, just enjoy the new movies, they can stand on their own.

To erase all the post-ROJ continuity at this point would be incredibly disrespectful to all the authors who have worked on it over the years, to all the people working hard to insure that the story stays consistent, but most importantly, to all hardcore SW fans who grew up watching and READING the SW series.

    2. Thank you for that. I've been in fierce verbal battles with my SW buddies and none of them seem to think that the new movies will follow EU. I firmly believe they will. 18. i grew up watching SW, literally, i was 3 when it came out and it was among my first memories and toys. I own all of the novels until 2005 i stopped keeping up with them. I have a collection of memorabilia that would be hard pressed to fit into a 2 car garage (i know, that is were it used to be displayed until i moved). i loved Clone Wars, both the original by Tartakovsky and the new ones by Filoni. It's funny, everyone hated Clone Wars until Disney cancelled them, and then fans turned out of the woodwork to complain, Lucas himself had sworn off further SW projects in Jan. 2012, partially because of all of the complaining no matter what he did or didn't do, and now this.I am with the opinion posted above, people will hate or love automatically depending on viewpoints. It is just a movie, why all of the stressing? I really hesitate to tell people i am a SW fan because of reactions like on this page, one big nerdfest. As Lucas said "Don't become like the Trekkies, let SW inspire you, not become who you are." i want to see something i have not seen before...i have the EU in books, comics, etc....this is a chance to see SW again, for the first time...if you can't see this, you have missed the entire point of being a fan.

P.S.-just don't watch it! leave the rest of us in peace so we can enjoy the experience. Stay at home in you parent's basement being raven wormwood or whatever in your online games, guzzling soda and eating the m&ms and pizza your parents bought you to keep you shut up, hoping you move out next summer before you turn 38...

Id love the 45 years aftboy, with a whole new story line with some of the EU characters!Id also love to see some of the EU books made into movies as this would be good for people who haven't read the books!Theres so many ways it can go and I will be happy whatever way it goes!I seriously think it will use Ben and Jaina and Allana in new stories taking palce after the original main characters are pretty much retired!! Then the stand alone movies can be based on the Fate of the Jedi series and Legacy and whatever! So many possibilities and I cant wait til Summer of 2015!!

  20. Im a humble yet fierce Fanboy. The books, the games....if it starts with a Crawl and John Williams' epic music then I want it. Now I will say these few comments and while I know not everyone will agree with me, I will try to provide my reasoning for each.

When it comes to rumors on Dramatis Personae for the new trilogy.....Im for the grain of salt. I think its safe to say that this or that host generally don't know SW on the level that many of us do and therefore I submit that if they did, half the sh*t that they spew would never hit the airways. The blogs are where you will find the true fans.

I sincerely hope that they at least follow the major canon points from EU and pick up where it leaves off (at the end of whichever books come out between now and then). I think we are primed for an amazing story on screen if they let the EU stand. The purists will get the original core characters reprised by Hamill, Ford, Fisher and the gang (as well as the writings of Kasden). The younger (somewhat cheated) generation of fans will be brought more fully into the fold. And anyone new to the franchise will be dropped right into the action....kinda like the first time you see A New Hope. There are characters no longer with us, and I miss them, but I hope we pick up with the EU timeline. All the actors are the appropriate age and the character pool is so rich I see no reason to backtrack.

Plot and story: Ive seen it many times that the new movies WILL NOT be based on any existing books or series. Im happy to hear this as A) it supports my theory/hope about following EU and B) the movie is NEVER as good as the book. I would be excited to see a spin off of young Han winning the Falcon from Lando and making the Kessel Run. Or to see the Fett coming up as the premier bounty hunter. But I firmly believe that the official Episodes should follow the Skywalker/Solo family saga as they have done so far.

My Prediction: I know of at least on poster on this site who is spreading the message that SW will cease to exist as we know it and that we will see a re-imagined storyline. If you're reading this sir, I believe you are woefully incorrect. Below is my predicted core cast and some possible cameo's please feel free to add your recommendations.

    Luke Skywalker: Mark Hamill
    Leia Organa Solo: Carrie Fisher
    Han Solo: Harrison Ford
    Lando Calrissian: Billie Dee Williams
    C-3PO: Anthony Daniels
R2-D2: Built by those two guys from the R2 Builders Association
Jaina Solo: Jennifer Lawrence? I think she has the cheek bones going for her
Ben Skywalker: Not sure but if someone else says Zach Efron I'll throat punch a Jawa
Amelia Solo (Allana): No Clue but a character I'm excited to see
Jagged Fel: Chris Pine? But it might be a step down from James T Kirk
Vestara Kai: Emma Watson? Or the girl who played the lead in Hannah

    Supporting and EU Characters
Wedge Antilles: Dennis Lawson (still looks the same after all these years)
    Tenel Ka: ?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: If they're bent on a cameo I would not be against Ewan McGregor
Emperor Palpatine: Ian McDiarmid. Again, if they're bent on a cameo
Mara Jade: I could see a force spirit cameo on her as well. Suggestions?

Just a few more characters I'd love to see:

Anyways folks, I hope, I pray that I'm not far from the mark when the blessed day finally arrives. With JJ Abrams at the helm, I believe we are in for a real treat and a true resurrection of the Star Wars franchise.

  21. I think the EU should be Canon for the most part it fleshes out the lore of the galaxy far far away.

  22. The EU brings life to the Universe of Star Wars the games like Dark Forces which added the ever popular Kyle Katarn should cpunt for something.

  23. The EU was for how Star Wars ended. Now Star Wars is ending in a different spot. Now a whole new run of stories (including in between the movies) can be written. Disney isn't stupid. They see the $$ potential in going away from the EU. I agree the Thrawn Trilogy and some others have been damn good but why see a Star Wars you already know the whole story of? That would be boring. A whole new "timeline" is being created, and I am hopefully JJ and Kathleen can pull it off. Just don't let JJ create a mystery without having a concrete ending. We don't want a wonder story to just die like in LOST in Season 6.

  24. That said, I would love to see a Sith Holocron.

  25. It can be said, that Rebels will introduce Mara Jade, into the film canon, and she will be the living mother of Ben Skywalker, Episode seven takes place, in 30 ABY. Jacen, and Jaina will be to Ben what Han, and Leia were to Luke. Ben is around the same age as his cousins. Chewie will be alive, and this is an all new timeline from 4 ABY forward.
Pablo Hidalgo, and Leland chee have been consulting with JJ, Kathleen, and JJ, on EU elements, and characters from the database. As of 2015 Books, ans comics will be part of the same canon, as Movies, TV, and Netflix. Rebels has very strong connections to the ST, it will bring EU, characters, Ideas, and planets into the canon, and it introduces two original characters for the ST, One Imperial, and one Jedi.

  26. Tem que deixar o Anakin Solo;Ben Skywalker e o Jacen solo e tira a Jaina,não vai ter graça nenhuma sem esses personagens principais e ainda matar o chewie,tá de brincadeira esse J.J.Abrams.
