Rumor: Star Wars: Episode 7 to be Released in December 2015?

So far all six Star Wars movies were released in May. It's something like a tradition. The latest rumors suggest that this tradition might be broken with Episode 7. Is it possible...?

According to Bad Ass Digest:

Multiple sources have told me that right now Disney and Lucasfilm have December circled on their calendars, with a mid-month release - the 15th - being most likely. That would take Star Wars out of the crowded summer and, more importantly, give JJ Abrams and company a couple more months to work on a movie that's already running a tighter schedule than most of the other Star Wars films.

I would take this report with a significant amount of salt. Just a few days ago Disney's chief Alan Horn confirmed at the D23 Expo that Star Wars: Episode 7 will have a summer 2015 release date.
Of course things could change but I find it very unlikely to happen just a few days after the official statement of someone that important at Disney.

  1. Quality of brevity please... Go ahead and delay it until 2016 if you have to. Just do it right.

  2. enough with all the rumors, get the ball rolling and start fliming, geez, we waited like close to 30 years to see a episode 7 and if you go witht he storyline, Chewbacca is dead in the books, so the movies will have to follow the star wars novel called crucible, so focus on that, do not change the story line where it fits in like before the fateof the jedi series cause it will be screwed up.

  3. These new Star wars movies are not following the Expanded Universe story lines. They are going to be new stories. Now they might have some of the characters from the Expanded Universe, but they will probably play a different role.

  4. Yeah your best bet is that they may barrow some of the character concepts and themes... but otherwise they've fairly confirmed it will not follow the books.

Which in their defense they need that kind of freedom. That and the original actors are far to old to play the roles the books had laid out.

  5. I know we all want them to start shooting but lets be fair, they are trying to get this film right and make it fantastic because if its rushed and doesn't do well then fans will start criticising on the net like they did with the prequels, which by the way I think the prequels are still great films so let them take there time because it will be worth the wait

  6. If not possible to open in may, 15, let's slip through may, 16. I've always thouht SW7 has a very tight schedule.

  7. Personally, I will be very surprised if Episode 7 is released in 2015 at all. The 2015 release date has always sounded to me like a boardroom decision that has little or nothing to do with the realities of making a movie of this scale. Pre-production didn't really even get started in earnest until this year, and by the time principle photography gets started it's going to be going on 2014, if it even gets started this year at all.

Just my opinion, of course, but I'd rather see them take their time and bump release back to 2016 rather than rushing the whole thing for the sake of meeting an artificial deadline.

  8. LOOK, sorry but the expanded universe is not "really" starwars. It was just an excuse to make more money with books, video games, ect. The expanded universe, I feel, is just way too much off course of what star wars really is. The people that wrote that stuff, shall I say, tried way to hard to be creative and got way way way to creative. I mean sheesh, like the lightsaber colors for instince. What's up with a yellow-green blade? What's up with Princess Leia having a "Ruby Red" blade when that is Obviously a Sith blade? And how in the hell does a black blade work? The expanded universe tried way to hard to force content and give it a story that George Lucas never would of wrote. You might see a character in the original star wars film for two sendonds, then the expanded universe gives that character this HUGE history and turns that character into this big deal when they really never had any impact on the movie (speaking in general.) Bottom line is that the expanded universe can be kind of fun, it fills the gap of boredom between films, but take it with a grain of salt. What would be the point of making any more movies if it was already written in the expanded universe? Throw out that crap and give us something new :) Thanks

  9. So... here is what the movies could do to dispell all those books as being part of Stat Wars canon.... have in the new movie the kids of Luke, Leia, and Han stand in line for a new "The Star Wars" book signing and Luke funds them and says that he appreciates their enthusiasm in fictional, stories about himself but they must leave the line now to help with saving the universe as they too are Jedi.... as they leave they walk past the table of the auther it is non other then George Lucas playing a cameo of himself.... :-)

  11. It is meant to intentionally make fun of everyone who are taking the books as Star Wars canon and meant to sound dumb....
Seriously??? Thinking that I really meant it is retarded.... Ease up a little why don't you...
It has been stated many times that the books are NOT Star Wars canon and the nee movies will not follow them... Get Over It everyone...
