It looks like two major roles for the upcoming Star Wars movie are still vacant. Casting sessions will be held next week in London, Dublin and Glasgow. Also hit the jump to see why the December release date looks more and more like a real possibility...

BBC News made an interesting discovery. They found out that open auditions are being planned for two lead roles in the next Star Wars film. According to a casting notice the film-makers are looking for:
a street smart and strong orphaned girl in her late teens and a smart capable man in his late teens or early 20s.

Here's the possible description of the characters (credit: TheTwinSuns from TFN boards).

"While it is unprecedented for lead parts in a franchise of this size to hold open auditions in this way, Star Wars has in the past given major roles to little known actors and actresses through the traditional casting process, dating back to the original trilogy when the then unknown Mark Hamill won the role of Luke Skywalker.

Director JJ Abrams, who is also co-scripting the movie, will not be attending the open auditions which begin in Bristol on 9 November. Instead those at the auditions, who must be over the age of 16 for the female role, and over 18 for the male role, will briefly meet members of the casting team of the film."

According to JediNews' source this is a confirmed Star Wars cast sheet for the cancelled auditions from August.

Lucasfilm declined to comment.

Update!

The same casting call this time for the US. It sounds pretty urgent. I have a feeling something drastically changed since the announcement of the Episode 7 writers change...

Also, Dennis Barbie (director retail of the Disney Company in Netherlands) said some interesting things after meeting with Lucasfilm in Paris:

  1. I get more concerned about Disney handling this every day. They are clearly behind schedule and are scrambling. The right thing to do would be to drop the expected release date and tell people it will be ready when it's ready. I hope they don't rush out some half baked garbage just to keep in line with their 5 year plan. A couple extra bucks is not worth wrecking star wars.

  2. I wish I could try-out!

  3. I don't care how long it takes them to make the next star wars film as long as it's good. I'm glad they're not rushing through it like the prequels.

    1. Not sure what you have read, but the prequel were a lot of things...but they were NOT rushed through in any way. Lucas began the screenplay, I believe, in `94 or `95 for a film released in `99. Each film had principle photography finished nearly 2 YEARS prior to release. (if Ep. VII were following the prequel track, it would have already wrapped PP.

  4. I agree they need to take their time What happened to all those dollar I spent on Star Wars merchandise lol. Seriously though this isn't just some random movie it is 'Star wars' they must understand this.

  5. "But they have started with the storylines so...will be great!"
They've only started storylines?! WHAT !?!?!

  6. So is anyone thinking of going? Bristol's looking good for me. No acting experience at all, but screw it - "don't ask, don't get", right?

  7. Has anyone noticed that he's deleted his tweets? Poor bloke is probably getting an earful from the Disney offices !

  8. You know that these descriptions might mean? Han Solo might be killed off.

    1. Dramatically, Han and Chewie will probably die in a very heroic act, saving thousands if not millions of lives in the process. Including the lives of Leian and her child/ren. If the flow of the saga so far is followed, Luke may very well be in for it as well. The first film in each trilogy sees the "Mentor" roll killed off to propel the plot. Lucas always spoke of the films like a poem that must rhyme. Though he has passed it on...I believe his vision would be so.

Han dying would also help propel a Solo child toward anger, hate, and fear. The saga IS after all, about the Skywalker Bloodline being cursed with the "unnatural" conception of Anakin. Perhaps the only thing that can truly bring balance....is for that bloodline....to end! This would require Luke, Leia, and any children of either to perish. Which takes things to a very dark place indeed.

  9. I think it's funny that they give names to the characters. However that could be just for the auditions and have no connections to the movies. Then again this could be for something totally unrelated to Star Wars or it could be for one of the spin offs. A male growing up without a father figure sounds a bit like Bobba Fett.

  10. Mark my words...EP7 will not be in theaters before 2016. You can take that to the bank.

    1. Well then Disney will probably let you take the 2016 release to THE BOARD. The Shareholders of Disney were told summer 2015.......so think of how they would react, they don't care if its good or not, its Star Wars. To the Shareholders its gonna be good period. Big Corps. don't become as huge as they are by going public with statements and not meeting they're own set deadline.......

  11. Sooo.......where's the scoop on why ep. 7 is gonna be pushed to a Dec. release? They've had a year to work on ep. 7 and still have a year and a half to go. Lucas cut all the other Star Wars films in 2 years so I don't see why it has to be pushed back.

    1. Uhmm... Actually each film in both trilogies were released three years apart..
      SW:A New Hope 1977
      Empire 1980
      ROT Jedi. 1983

      Prequel:
      Phantom Menace. 1999
      Attack of the Clones. 2002
      ROT Sith. 2005
      Those are facts...

So not sure where you claim each film took two years in between.

  12. Bummed auditions are going to be in the UK. I would give anything for a role in these movies...

  13. I really dig those character profiles. Even if that isn't the characters' actual backgrounds in detail, each one points to an interesting character, grounded in something other than a lifetime of Force training. Coming to the Jedi thing later in life could make for a lot more complex and textured version of the Jedi Order than what we saw in the PT.

And yeah, I hope they let the process take as long as it needs to take on this first one. 2016 would be fine by most of us, I think, if it means a better story and more engaging movie overall.

    1. Uhhh, Anakin was a SLAVE for crying out loud. How's that for a "complex and textured" character in the PT? lol.

      Delete
    2. And yet, he had all the texture and complexity of baby cereal.

But you make a good point. It wouldn't be the first time in SW history that a character profile looked good on paper and fell flat in the actual movie.

  14. Alright peeps really....this guy isn't CEO of Disney so if Disney says summer 2015, it will be summer 2015. Look the scripts are pretty much done or are done. Switching writers doesn't mean they are totally writing a new story.

  15. How come that Disney logo on the casting call looks like it had been cut and paste onto the white paper? Don't believe me? Look for yourself.

    FAKE.

    1. Maybe because the person on twitter did added it? If you look at the original sheet she published on twitter it doesn't have a logo. But then she published it with the logo. It looks like she just added it to get it noticed. This is just a casting sheet for people to show up to meet casting directors. It's not a proper formal signing sheet for actors to sign on for.

  18. I don't think it's a good idea to look for handsome or beauthiful characters. Luke wasn't handsome but he was the best choice to become a true jedi. Carrie fisher wasnt a top model... but damn she has that sexyness in her charismatic face. It would be a mistake to pic those attribute for a great role. You guys need to look for "true acting attribute" more then another Justin bieber type face icon to lure young girls to watch the movie or a little hottie who can't act but just look good. Well thats my personal opinion. Let's remember that Hayden Christensen from star wars 2 and 3 was "good looking" you could say.. but DAMN he sucks as an actor. really I wanted him to die sooner. very bad actor. Oh well, trust me or not, feel free to pick anyone. I'll still watch the movie but... hmmmmm.... oh well.

Luke terrible acting is what makes him so precious.

  19. One thing I can I can say about where the plot of the new movies are going. Lucas said many times when you look at it the whole saga is about Anakin/Darth Vader. We now know that lucas had the stories for 7,8 and 9 before the thought of selling out to disney had even crossed his mind. With that being said the saga would include the new movies right. I'm starting to suspect that somehow there is something unresolved with the anakin/Vader character. Some sort of unfinished buisness. Dont know how they could pull it off but thats my feeling.

  20. These characters need some fatal flaws in order to develop effectively, throughout not just Episode VII, but Episodes VIII and IX too, heck maybe even X, XI, and XII. If these characters are perfect from they beginning, then what do they have to learn? And might I add that their troubled backgrounds are external flaws; if they don't manifest themselves in some kind of internal way, these characters will be flat and boring, and the film would suffer the same fate. I really hope they don't screw this up.

  21. Okay. Han Solo is out. Ford has desided not to be a part of the new movies.
The Thomas carekter sounds like Han Solo "smart, cable ....."
or maybe it's Han Solo. Maybe casting for the spinoff movies.
