Star Wars: Rebels Movie and Short Series Confirmed!

star wars

After the huge propaganda from yesterday comes the news that the audience will be introduced to the Rebels series by a movie and series of shorts on Disney Channel...

JediNews managed to get their hands on a company shareholder letter that revealed the news.
"    It’s hard to believe it’s already been a year since we acquired the extraordinary Star Wars franchise, but we’re well on our way to expanding that epic saga to thrill fans and introduce its iconic characters to a new generation with fantastic new storylines. After months of public speculation and anticipation, we announced the official release date for the next feature film, Star Wars: Episode VII, will be December 18, 2015. So far we’ve kept the details to ourselves, but we’re thrilled with the story and committed to making an incredible movie, and we should be releasing more information as production moves forward in the coming year.

As with Marvel, the rich universe of Star Wars has tremendous creative potential for the entire company. While the world eagerly awaits Episode VII to open in theaters, we’re introducing Star Wars Rebels to television audiences this summer with a movie and a series of shorts on Disney Channel, followed by a continuing series on Disney XD. Our success in building a robust pipeline of original Star Wars content for various platforms will be an integral part of our long-term strategy to leverage the franchise across a variety of our businesses, from theme parks to consumer products."

Probably this will be officially announced today at Disney's Q1 Earnings Results Webcast.

  1. we are gonna see a movie sooner than expected thats great news, problem is if it is aired earlier in the states, the rest of the world will have no choice but to 'aquire' it through the net..

    2. what about the Clone Wars the Lost missions (season 6) being released in Germany first with no air date announced here in the States?

    3. That is not true,. Arrested Development: "The season consists of 15 new episodes, all debuting at the same time on Netflix on May 26, 2013, in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Latin America, Brazil and the Nordics." Not to mention being in Canada most shows air at the same time or else essentially the same time in North America as a whole. I think Redski has a good idea!

    5. It's highly unusual for a US show to be shown in another country first.

Netflix ensures worldwide transmission *at the same time*, which is fine.

But if the final episodes of TCW are aired in Germany *before* the US I wouldn't blame the fans for getting upset. That would really be a dumb move by Lucasfilm.

    6. Yeah, I don't understand the whole German release (not saying anything bad about Germany) but they already have airdates this month. The States have not air dates. Not sure what their thinking..

    9. I'm English. And I'm not a fan of TCW. But that doesn't mean I can't be sympathetic.

  3. A summer premier release was something that was announced when Rebels was first revealed, but was strangely over-looked and forgotten. Glad that it has now been confirmed.

  4. Not so interested in the animated stuff- I wish they would have done the live action tv series in addition to the new trilogy.

  5. I have a bad feeling about this mass production of the franchise.

    1. Yeah because quality control for it thus far has been stellar?

Seriously nothing worse can be done to the franchise at this point. It'll either be on par or better.

  6. well a finished written script with technical and text distributed to all relevant parties in its complete post edit pre principle photography has only happened once. Empire. Im not saying it wont change, but Lucas cannot write... Anyone see Howard the Duck ? My point is they seem to be on a roll and making smart exciting professionally competent choices. I would want anyone but Disney holding onto this. More is better. More Force ghosts, cgi characters, or mindless exposition about galatic governance... Personally Id like a sleeper villian... like Judi Dench as a *SURPRISE* evil Mon Mothma maybe somethind worse that a Sith is awaiting
