Zac Efron Confirmed Meeting With J.J. Abrams About Star Wars: Episode 7.

star wars

Zac Efron who was rumored before as a contender for a role in Star Wars: Episode 7 confirmed that he did have a meeting with director J.J. Abrams...

The confirmation came from an interview with MTV

Here's the Zac Efron rumor ran by Latino Review a few months ago:
About a two months ago my source informed me that they were going to start filming in Pinewood, but I really never paid any mind to it and now it ends up being true that they will indeed film there. I was also told that a MAJOR film star went in for a meeting, that star was Leo DiCaprio. And now I’m told that he’s out.A little while ago I was told that two names have been thrown around a lot, and that another star went in last week. The two stars are none other than Ryan Gosling and Zac Efron.

So does this confirmation give some credibility to the Ryan Gosling rumor as well? Probably not, but still have it in mind. And Ryan Gosling rep made a simple comment on the rumor that it was not true. Still a rep's denial really doesn't mean anything these days.

  1. I know the internet will probably go batshit crazy with this bit of news but as much as I originally hated the idea, I think he might actually be a good fit for the franchise. The original trilogy was unique in it's sense of adventure, fantasy and charm, ultimately, a kids film accessible and loved by people of all ages. I know People's first thought when Zac Efron's name is mentioned will be High School Musical and such rubbish but don't forget, he was in Firefly and has proven himself as very versatile in more recent film's such as 'Me and Orson Welles'. I don't think it's fair of us to write him off just yet.

    1. Jesus, this new Star Wars film is becoming a flick full of pretty boys. Is anyone with rugged good looks (like Harrison Ford) going to be in it. If the producers are after these 'guys' just to grab some female fans, we're off to a bad start.
      'Twilight Wars' anyone?

    2. Funny to say that, especially when we still don't have a single cast member confirmed. :)

  2. As I said waaay back... I love Ryan. He's a really great actor. Zac isn't terrible but there's just something about him. I think it was the whole tweeny girls love him phase that's hard to get past :P

  3. Why do people hate actors for being in something? It is extremely petty and shortsighted... I assume signing him would get more women in the seats? I remember watching Episode II in theaters, and the young women wouldn't shut up about Hayden.

Irregardless, It wouldn't take them so long to cast if they weren't serious about getting it right.

    1. Not entirely true. Sometimes it's hard to forget what they've done in the past and that carries over into the new film. That's why most people often want unknowns in major films so it doesn't present a conflict in their minds.

It's easier to believe/get to know a character when you have no preconceptions. Only the most talented actors are able to make you forget who they are.

    2. That is garbage. People playing different characters happens all of the time. It's just that my fellow geeks tend to grasp for excuses why to hate anything new. Look up the word nostalgia, guys.

I find it's the opposite. Really good actors, really just play themselves in most movies. Bruce Campbell plays himself, same with Chuck Norris, and especially, Tim Curry.

    3. I think if Sylvester Stallone or Arnold Schwarzenegger were cast in Episode 7 it would be pretty hard to not imagine Rocky or Terminator. The fact is, some actors just don't fit in other movies because they are too recognizable for their other roles.
btw, Im not a Sly or Arnold fan, just making a point.

    4. There's a distinct possibility that if cast, Efron could do great things with his role, depending on what that may be. He's really never gotten a chance to play any characters outside of his normal young adult/teen stuck in a love-lock kinda role, besides his short appearance on Firefly as young Simon. I think if they gave him a chance to show his skill in a role that really calls for a lot of talent, he might surprise us all. The only reason people are so pissed about this rumor is because of Disney's acquiring Lucasfilms and the fact that Efron has done a lot with Disney in the past. I agree that the lead roles should definitley be played by more unknown actors and actresses for the sake of future association with those characters, but if this is the way it's gonna be, it could be a hell of a lot worse.

    5. That is true! I think Zac is a good actor. And no, I don't like High School Musical! I did like Hairspray tho!

Same for Robert Pattison, I don't like any of those stupid twilight movies but I don't hate him for it. Even he is in SW, I be cool with it too! Even if they bring in Taylor Lautner, I be cool too!

But if they are talking Bieber and Shia Lashit. than fuck NO!!!

    6. What about Robert Downey jr? What is he associated with? What was he best known for like 5 years ago?

People should stop whining. So, someone from something you didn't like is in something. Does that mean the entire script is re-written to accommodate their archetype? This is known as typecasting. You shouldn't hate a guy because his agent knows how to leverage his strengths.

  4. JJ is a Star Wars fan, Kennedy is now the boss and will want to get this beyond right, if they believe in a casting choice, who are we to complain? At least we're getting these movies

    1. We are the people that ultimately make the chose on who buys the tickets and merchandise. So I have the right to complain if I don't like KK's or JJ's dessions in any think Star Wars related. Zac Efron ? Nooooooooo!

    2. This reminds me of a certain future batman's casting. Just because someone is given a bad script and/or bad direction in the past, doesn't mean they are useless.

    3. Batfleck has mojo and possibilities. When I think of Efron in Star Wars it just screams bad Karma. I hope they scout no names in the main roles. Efron has become to much of a household word coming to the franchise with baggage.

      Delete
    4. Star Wars is better off without this Efron dork.

      Delete
    5. Look up the word typecasting, because Zack apparently suffers from it big-time. I am sure people said that Robert Downey Jr. wouldn't amount to anything, too.

  5. Ok he is ridiculously hot but it would just be too weird and distracting for him to be in star wars. I mean they have the opportunity to go after the best of the best when it comes to cast and crew. Surely they must know that they would loose so much credibility if they went with someone like zac efron.

At one time we were looking at the first Star Wars film with a central female protagonist..... now, I'm starting to wonder if they are going to even cast actresses in this film.

    1. Gotta admit I'd be fine with a female lead. I sure hope there's at least one in a major role.

      Delete
    2. I think it will be Luke's son as the lead, then a girl and a boy as sidekicks which will be twins of Han and Leia. Just my guess though.

      Delete
    3. If there is only one female character, and that isn't THE lead, people have a right to be angry for that. Leia broke so much ground, and then Padme went backwards, with everything revolving around her man.

  8. Idk why anyone is freaking out. No one said he was cast. He MET JJ and so did everyone else under the sun.hes just one of a few that publicly admitted it.

  9. In the books, Luke's son, Ben, normally follows Jaina and Jacen Solo (Han and Leia's kids)

  10. Can only see him as Anakin Solo.

    ReplyDelete
  11. For Force sake, NO, PLEASE NO!!!...

    ReplyDelete
  12. I can see him as Jason Solo he looks a little like Han in the face. It would bring the girls into the theaters for certain and that's most likely what Disney is worried about in Star wars seven. He's not a bad actor really. Something tells be the Redhead kid from Breaking Bad is going to be Ben. Coloring is right and he looks a little like old mark.

    1. I hope that he plays Ben Skywalker or Jacen Solo

    3. Guys will come see the movie regardless. Girls? not so much. They need someone hunky to bring them in.

    4. @AnonymousFebruary 3, 2014 at 3:23 PM
I know quite a few girls who are as excited as I am for the ST. Disney doesn't need any "hunky" guys to make a pretty penny off of this film. Thousands upon thousands will see this movie whether it sucks or not. It's new Star Wars. That fact alone can be used to their advantage.

    5. This depends. If there is a female lead OR more than the traditional token among the main cast, and it passes the Bachdel test, it's all good.

But, if the script was re-written to have a token female character among all men, and they want him to make up for no female lead to draw them, then I'll be angry.

  13. Maybe Bryan Cranston is gonna be in it. Now that is something I would watch.

  14. Honestly, who the hell cares about what Zac Efron has done in the past with disney? People are judging too quickly about this like they always do whenever an actor is announced. No one here is a casting director at all im pretty sure so you really have no clue what the fuck you are talking about when you say he shouldnt be in the film.

    1. I was not crazy with Hayden's performance, just like George was not happy with Mark Hamill. I can deal with it but Hayden did not nail it and felt from the get go that Hayden was a bad choice. In the end it worked enough I did not walk away, But Efron resonates with me like Christensen, just rather they go with someone else.

  18. Not a big deal either way, who knows what part he auditioned for? Just because he was cast in some teen bullshit doesnt mean he will be terrible for star wars! the guy CAN act, so long as he is right for the role, his background shouldn't matter.

    1. It's just as well. If he is in it, that will be the excuse people use to hate. If he's not in it, there will be some other excuse. Nostalgia is the king of geeks everywhere, and variety is our whipping boy.

      Delete
    2. Agreed. He will be the Jar Jar of the ST. I don't think he'd be as bad as Jar Jar, but you're right; it'd certainly give people a reason to hate the ST and blame Disney for it, since it's Efron of all people. It'll be joked about for years to come.

      Delete
    3. He's a much better actor than Hayden Christiansen, that's for damn sure. I just think he's a bit too plastic/pretty-boy looking, and if he were included, it'd be viewed as a poorly made publicity stunt in an attempt to widen the demographic to whiny teenaged girls. It all depends on if he's cast and what role he's assigned to portray. If it's done right, he could do very weel, but I think there's simply too much room for error.

      Delete
    4. You know what would be hilarious? If he WAS cast, but in a bit role, like Samuel L Jackson's role in The Phantom Menace.

  19. The best casting rumors for me were those of Daniel Day Lewis and Liam McIntyre.

  20. I'd rather not see him in Star Wars because he's not a great actor and just isn't right for the saga, in my opinion. We need someone who's face will be seen and recognized as that character in Star Wars; not the pretty boy from 17 Again, or the teen hearth throb from High School Musical/Hairspray. We just don't need plastic-looking pretty boys in Star Wars to tickle all the little girls vaginas. Ford, Hamill, Williams; these guys may have all been handsome, but they worked for Star Wars because their faces had barely been seen on screen before (if ever) and they had a rough, gritty side to them. They're faces fit the characters personas perfectly. I feel like if Efron were cast, it'd be a wrongly-mad, desperate publicity stunt by Disney to expand the demographic to young teenage girls. Star Wars doesn't need publicity stunts to make shitloads of cash at the box offices. If he is cast, I hope it's for a much smaller role.

  21. I think he would be fine as far as acting and look goes, but I just think he's too big a star for my Star Wars taste. I don't want to see"Zak Efron" when I watch Star Wars, I want to see "Ben Skywalker" or whatever character he may have played. New talent is the way to go for this.

Also, is this really a news item, or does it just fit in with the fact that everyone in the right age bracket has been looked at to some degree?

  23. Christopher Walken, Cindy Williams, Al Pacino, Sylvester Stallone, Sissy Spacek and tons of other well known actors of the time auditioned for Episode IV. They ultimately landed on the cast we all know and love now. Trust in the process. If they chose an actor you never liked before, you may change your mind seeing that actor in a kick ass (hopefully) movie.

  25. The Idiot of America declares that Zac Efron would make a good fit as Ben Skywalker. Age appropriate. He has solid character and a good person. Now to other roles for Episode VII The New Republic, I'd say we really need to focus on the star of the film and that SHOULD be Anakin Solo. Because my fellow Star Wars readers he's the real star of the show before Jaina aka Sword blah blah blah and her twin embracing douchebag and then maybe in Insurrection of Corellia (Ep. 8) and Balance of the Force (Ep. 9) Ben (Zac Efron) can kick some Caedus/Lumiya/Vestara/Sith ass. Just saying. Skittles! Taste that Rainbow Star Wars fans! Oh and one more thing. GD should be making American Genius any day now...may the force be with you.
