Carrie Fisher at The Backstage At The Geffen: We're Not Supposed to Talk About Star Wars.

star wars

Carrie Fisher attended the Backstage At The Geffen annual fundraiser held at Geffen Playhouse on March 22, 2014 in Los Angeles, California. She made a brief comment about the upcoming Star Wars movie...

The interview is pretty cool but things became really funny when the reporter asked Fisher about the upcoming Star Wars films:
Reporter: Are you looking forward to working on the next Star Wars?

Fisher: I don't know that I am. You know, we're not supposed to...  I'm the worst person. Don't ask me things...

Carrie is looking great and she really can't hide the truth. It's funny that she said "we're not supposed to..."! Also she is writing a new stage show that she'll be doing this time in London.... close to the Episode 7 sets I guess. :)

  4. It -looks- like Carrie dropped a hint here: "Actually I was thinking of doing it in London..". WHERE were the studios Episode VII is supposed to be filmed in, again...?

  8. She was just bursting to confirm things, but held back at the last moment. Seriously, if she wasn't returning for Ep 7 she would have no need to be so tight-lipped. Coming after last weeks official update from Disney/Lucasfilm this more or less confirms Carrie is back.

  12. She's not too bad here, but a few weeks ago there was the article where she was looking awful (granted, no makeup), and they made it sound like she was acting strange. I wonder if the reason why they are dragging their feet on announcing the big 3 will be in ep. 7 has something to do with IF Fisher can get her shit together or not by then. She's not seeming half bad here (if that's the case), so I'm hopeful. I just don't see her being used very much in the new movie though, but we'll see.

    1. Well they wouldn't recast, unless they are braindead stupid. and it's too late to write her out. Carrie, like Mark and Harrison, is just not aloud to talk about it because it's not been officially announced yet.

    1. Oh lord I hope not. Leia was always the natural commander, general, politician, or some sort of leader to people. In an early draft of return of the jedi Leia actually become a queen. I see this sort of role for Leia, I don't see why Leia would ever even want to become a Jedi. Plus Han would be kind of left out. It would be much more special and create higher stakes if it was just Luke who was the last of that generation of jedi. Leia and Han can be involved in other aspects of leadership.

      Delete
    2. But the Jedi are natural born mediators and peacekeepers. What better type of person to be a politician is there, than a Jedi?

      Delete
    3. Need I point out that Luke said "in time you will learn to use it as I do" She was prone to use a blaster from time to time... why not a light saber? :)

On a side note... George Takei making a cameo with a pink light saber? Takers anyone?

      Delete
    4. Leia said it was a power she doesn't understand and could never have. She said this before she knew she was Luke's sister. It shows her motives and goal was to never be anything like Jedi, she never even went to understand it. It was Luke that said he was going to teach Leia, it wasn't Leia who said that or agreed. She was force sensitive and could feel and sense Luke, but she wouldn't ever want to be a full on jedi. She was, and wanted to be, a leader, either miliatary, politically, or monarchy. Never would it be religiously. That's what Luke's path was. Leia's path was always clear that she would become a leader and focus on being a parent with Han. And like I said, it would take away the significance out of Luke's role of being the Jedi teacher if Leia was just going to have the same role anyway.

    5. @ Sam
If I recall well, the last politician who was able to use the Force was a certain… Palpatine. Remember what happened, then? ;-)
And Kenobi had pretty harsh words about the politicians in Episode III, too.

      Delete
    6. Yes, but face the facts people... Leia was to become a jedi just like her brother. Together they would help restore the jedi order and recruit other force-senitive beings in the galaxy.

To say that Leia should be nothing more than a politician goes against the ending of Episode VI. I wish people can stop with this notion that if it happened in Episode IV, it should be just like Episode IV.

      Delete
    7. Clearly you did not watch episodes IV, V, let alone VI very carefully. To say "it's clear" she should become a Jedi because of the events of episode VI is ridiculous. In episodes 4, 5, and 6 , it becomes clearer and clearer she wanted to become a leader or a politician or a general, and it was established she wanted to settle down with Han in a relationship. THAT'S what was clear in the ending of Jedi. She never showed anything about wanting to be a Jedi at all. Not once. Even when the subject was brought up earlier on in the scene with Luke, and he presumed "in time you will learn to use it as I have", Leia literally said nothing and moved on the conversation. How is it clear she should be a Jedi when she said nothing about it, and that it's clear she was a natural politician, leader, commander, etc etc anyway. It doesn't make any sense at all for the continuity and the plot and Leia's character, if she ended up as a Jedi. Character development needs to make sense to the character and the plot, not to what you want to see. You cannot take one line, and justify the entire arc, motives, and destiny of a character. Especially when there are clear examples to show she would go down a different route anyway. She had no interest in becoming a Jedi and never bothered to understand it even though she knew she was force sensitive as she could feel Luke's presence. She had no interest in pursuing it. And not only that, but she clearly wanted to be a commander or politician. Just because she now knows Luke's her brother, does not suddenly mean she wants to or should study and become a Jedi. It is ridiculous to think she would suddenly change all her goals and ambitions because she found out she was Luke's brother and could POTENTIALLY be a Jedi. There's not enough reason or logic to back up the idea of seeing Leia as a Jedi in episode 7. It would be bad for both her character, and don't even get me started on what it would do for the plot and the knock on effect of the other characters.

      Delete
    8. So...you're saying you want Leia to be a Jedi, right?

  20. She's gonna be great in Ep 7. She still looks really good, and more importantly, she's still really funny. Lots of great little moments in this interview, and her half-hearted backpedaling on the Big Question really had me chuckling aloud. "Y'know, I'm the worst person to... just don't ask me things." Very funny and genuine.

Clearly, she's just as tired of the production dragging ass on cast announcements as we are, because she's the one who's got to face the media and try and put on this poker face that she doesn't want to put on and come up with these silly neutral non-answers that she obviously doesn't think much of in the first place.

But as far as her playing Leia again, I get the feeling that's going to go really well.

  32. Looks like Carrie is now in shape to pull off a perfectly recognizable Leia. When they get all the proper makeup on her, and maybe do just a little digital trickery in post-production, we will indeed meet the great space princess again. Though this will obviously be a much more mature version, since 30 years have passed "internally" as well, we will not have to cringe about her looking "old" to the point of being hard on the eyes.
