UPDATE! More on the Recent Rumored Auditions + Zac Efron Talks Star Wars.

star wars

Remember the rumors from last week that at the end of February there will be a Star Wars audition happening in the UK, and one of the roles was about Princes Leia? Well it looks like there were two auditions happening. One in the US for Star Wars Weekends and a different one in the UK for something else...

From mynews13:
Calling all Jedi: Walt Disney World is holding auditions for characters for this year's Star Wars Weekends.

Disney has two auditions scheduled during the next week for "Star Wars" character look-alikes and performers.

    Tuesday, Feb. 28 -- Sign in by 9 a.m.
    Monday, March 5 -- Sign in by 6 p.m.

Both sessions are at Disney's Animal Kingdom Rehersal Facility, located at 3271 Sherbeth Road, in Kissimmee.

Characters wanted

Females (5'3" – 6'0") for Princess Leia, Queen Amidala, Zam Wessell, Shaak-Ti, Aurra Sing, Ahsoka Tano, Asajj Ventress.
Males (5'8" – 6'3") for Luke Skywalker, Anakin Skywalker, Darth Maul, Mace Windu.
Males (6'3" – 6'10") for Darth Vader and Chewbacca.
Male or Female (3'10" – 5'0") for Ewoks.

The audition is taking place in Florida and we have to point out that Den of Geeks rumor from last week was about an audition taking place in the UK. Also according to JediNews the audition was about Leia Organa, not Princess Leia. So I wonder if this is just a coincidence or a completely different audition.

UPDATE!

I contacted Den of Geek to clarify if their source really meant that the Leia audition took place in the UK. They again confirmed that, and also shared that their info came from one of the biggest UK casting agencies Spotlight. This really gives even more credibility to their story.
I doubt that they were auditioning UK actresses for the US amusement parks. I think the Leia audition in the UK was legit. Maybe they used the US Weekends auditions as a cover? It remains to be seen what was it about, Episode 7 or something else.

Many tweets were posted in the last few days about the Star Wars Weekends audition but one particular tweet was different:

Considering that the description of the leading man is "hilarious" made me think that this was also for the Weekends audition. But later I received a reply that Episode 7 casting director and J.J. Abrams were attending the audition.

And while we're at casting here's Zac Efron's short comment for eonline on the rumors of his possible involvement with Episode 7:
"Is it true? I don't even know yet," he said when asked if he was signed on the the highly anticipated movie.

"I guess the Force is with me tonight," he added. (Was that a hint?! Maybe? No? Who knows!)

  1. This is all too confusing. Is Leia having a recast for Ep 7? Just when things seemed to get more reassuring that Carrie Fisher will be back, things suddenly get foggier than a Dagobah swamp lol.

  2. they wouldnt recast her dammit!

  3. ...please not Zac Efron. Just.. please. I mean talk about distracting. And a recast of Leia would be stupidly distracting too. Gah, the casting is becoming one of the things I'm steadily getting most worried about. I'm still a little surprised that they're even still auditioning to be honest but there we are.

  4. ...the thing that puzzles me the most is the rumoured flashback sequence - anyone else think it could be a way of seeing a young(ish) post ROTJ Luke meeting Mara Jade? - would be great to see her portrayed in her prime, even if it`s just for a short sequence.

  5. If they recast Princess Leia or any of the Big Four, will dig their own grave.

  6. if zac efron is in the new star wars, the whole franchise would be fucked up

  7. Zac Efron in Star Wars would be great. And if he is going to be in Episode 7, no amount of crude language is going to change anything.

  8. i think people would have seen JJ and the director in freaking Disney world if this was true and we would have gotten some pics or something. i call bs on that one

  9. Much ado about nothing. Carrie Fisher will play Leia Organa or no one will. Zac Efron doesn't feel right to me, but I'd keep an open mind.

  10. Zac Efron is a very good actor. I wouldn't be overly disappointed if he was cast. Too many people jumping on the bandwagon because they didn't like movies that he was previously in (I accept that I also didn't like them but I'm not so retarded as to think him being cast is going to turn the movie into a musical).

  11. still no confirmation about anything

  12. This makes a lot more sense than the notion that they were going to recast Leia for Ep. 7. Hopefully we can dispense with all of the "Carrie had better get hotter or they're gonna replace her!" nonsense now.

As for Zac Efron... are we gonna start getting Kirk Cameron rumors next? Or perhaps an Olsen twin or two? ;^)

  13. Put 2 and 2 together, people! Zac Efron is the new Princess Leia! Deal with it!

  14. Why would Carrie and Mark both be in good shape around the same time filming begins for the movie? It just seems like too big of a coincidence for them to not be in the movie. Carrie probably got caught with coke the other week because she used to do it to lose weight and she could have been doing the same thing to prepare for the new movie, I don't know. Just a guess. Zac Efron in this movie will be fine. If he is in it that is. I didn't really like his older movies because well they were targeted mainly towards tweenish girls so a lot of SW fans can't really relate. Anyone know when that make a wish thing with mark hamill is?

  15. It makes perfect sense. Someone asks "Is there an audition for Leia?", gets a yes answer, because it's for something that has nothing to do with the film!

  16. One word: Typecasting. Actors don't play one character and then only play that role for the rest of their life., but people start to think they do.

  17. My god these casting rumors are getting stupid. Every day someone says there will be a big announcement, then it ends up being a voice of a video game, or a cartoon, now it's actors playing the characters in Disney weekends. When will this end already?

  18. I think Elizabeth Olsen was rumored a few months back. Kirk Cameron as Luke, That's funny, he would be better then Efron.

  19. That's the nature of the game. I just like to think of the old rumors. Nude scene in the next Star Wars film!!! :D

  20. Thank goodness for the Leia thing. People jumping to conclusions, going all TMZ on her, all because episode VII must be the ONLY THING Star Wars related that is casting in the whole world.

The funny thing, is that if Efron is actually cast, people will finally stop treating him like garbage simply because his Agent's decisions on what projects he should participate in.

  21. This is merely a speculation ... but what if they are not only re-casting Princess Leia, but also Luke Skywalker and Han Solo for a much more younger bundle of protagonists in order to annex the Thrawn Trilogy into one movie and introduce the new Star Wars continuum in Episode VIII, featuring a much elder Luke, Han, and Leia, bringing back the old cast.

    1. I don't think any of that will be in the next Star Wars film.

  26. I loved the original films, I even loved the seq...prequels?!...whatever...
I sincerely do not want to see Effron play any Skywalker or Solo part but I don't get why people don't want the main parts recast, I know Liam Neeson and the Taken franchise is about an old dude handing out serious beating but imagine a movie with the original (old) cast, "On a home for the elderly far far away..." and then fade to black straight after the beginning credits as the whole cast either has arthritis and can't move, dozed off or died during the opening sequence
