Karen Gillan's Red Hair to be Used as a Wig in Star Wars: Episode 7.

star wars

Actress Karen Gillan who cut her long red hair for her role in the new Marvel movie Guardians of the Galaxy, revealed that the hair has been made into a wig and was given to be used in the new Star Wars movie...

From Collider:
Would you have to shave your head again?

Oh, no.  I think they’d work around it because there’s such a small amount of hair.

Was it just very liberating to shave your head, or did you have any moments of tears while they were doing it?

No, I was laughing hysterically.  It really hit me when I woke up the next morning.  That’s when I was like, “Oh, my god, where’s my hair?!”  But also, everyone kept me in good spirit.  Everyone was laughing and telling jokes.  Marvel are the best company to work for, they really are.  They treat you really well.  They made my hair into the most incredible well-made wig and they gave it to the Star Wars people.  It’s just so funny to think that my hair is made into a wig, next to all these Star Wars monster heads in a warehouse.  I thought that was really funny.

It's good to see two of Disney's companies (Marvel and Lucasfilm) work in collaboration. I wonder which female Star Wars character has a red hair? ;)

  2. I know exactly what everyone's going to assume and I must say I hope it's not the case, but it seems this wig could be used for the red hair of Mara Jade Skywalker. In my opinion I still think EpVII would be much better if Luke is without a spouse or child throughout the trilogy and the focus was primarily on the offspring of Han and Leia, but I'm may be alone in that stance.

    1. I'm with on everything, but the primary focus on the offspring of Han and Leia.

    2. We need lead characters that aren't just someone's kid from the original trilogy.

      Delete
    3. Yes, and we need planets, plotlines, villians, sidekicks, etc. that also aren't from the Original Trilogy. Unfortunately, knowing Disney, this ain't gonna happen.

      Delete
    4. I agree with you on that, Duke, I just think it'd be best for their offspring to be the primary characters and add in brand new characters that are iconic to the ST to add variety. I don't want this to be a complete rehash of the OT, I just want a smooth transition from EpVI and feel comfortable with the new surroundings I'm being introduced to in EpVII. I have faith in the development team to capture that very well.

      Delete
    5. Then what would be the point of calling it episode 7 if it has nothing to do with the Skywalker/Solo bloodline? There's no point in making or calling it episode 7. Start a new series if they want to focus on completely new characters

    6. I like the idea of Luke being married. For one thing he didn't have time to learn everything about the jedi code and if you read the books that came after ROTJ, he was searching for guidence from every would be former Jedi on how to rebuild the order. Thus, him coming to the conclusion there is no problem forming relationships is a bad thing, beings his sister (who later becomes a jedi) is married herself. Are they going to have to remove Han and Leia from being married too? Plus, compare the OT to the PT, and you'll find that the fact that jedi couldn't have relationships made for a boring story premise, or Lucas was horrible at Directing, but I digress. The fact remains that its possible the former Jedi had it wrong, and having loving relationships is not entirerly a bad thing. Plus you can see where it got them not having loving relationships. Anikin could of had a relationship with Padme and not grow into being the evil dark lord that destoyed the order. That's my 2 cents

      Delete
    7. First of all, how could he search out "would-be former Jedi" if he was the last of the Jedi after Ben Kenobi died? I always assumed as a kid that he sought out help from the force ghosts of Anakin, Yoda and Ben as soon as ROTJ ended, but that was thirty years before EpVII is taking place. By this time, he's already established the new order.
Also, being strong with the force is much different than being a Jedi. We were never put under the impression through the OT that Leia would become a Jedi. She seemed more likely to use her strength in the force for her political duties, so it'd be perfectly understandable for she and Han to be married and have children. Luke's responsibilities as the last Jedi after ROTJ were a much heavier burden to bare. I don't see how he'd ever think that getting married would aid his efforts in rebuilding the Jedi order. It'd be too distracting and require the investment of too much time and attention.
Finally, I really don't see just how the Jedi could "have it wrong" for centuries in their practice, being as wise, devoted and focused they were. They never once said that having romantic relationships was a bad thing; they only explained the fact that a Jedi's mind body and spirit must be entirely devoted to their understanding of the force and keeping themselves mentally stable in every situation. Love can easily sway that focus and divert that attention. That is desplayed perfectly in the rise and fall of Anakin Skywalker. He only turned to the darkside in fear of his love for Padme fading in death, only to have that very fear become reality by his own doing. That is why he chose to turn on the Emperor at the end of ROTJ and that is why his ghost was standing by his son on Endor.

    9. "Also, being strong with the force is much different than being a Jedi. We were never put under the impression through the OT that Leia would become a Jedi."

Really? Yoda told Luke to pass on what he has learned as well as telling him that the Force was strong in his family and that he was the last of the Jedi. All signs point to Leia being Luke's first student and her becoming a Jedi. From the time we find out that she is even potentially Force sensitive in ROTJ, what leads you to believe that she would use her strength in the Force for her political duties?

      Delete
    10. All of those points can be very easily reinterpreted. By the time ROTJ ended, Leia was far too old for a Jedi of Luke's caliber to have the ability to train entirely on his own. Sure, he may have had the help of Yoda, Ben and Anakin's force ghosts, but he still had so much to learn on his own. He was certainly not ready at that point to take on a student his own age who had little to no understanding of the force. I believe Yoda could have meant that his knowledgeof the force as a Jedi would be passed through the offspring of his sister, who (as we know) is also strong with the Force. With the Skywalker blood in those children's veins and Luke's wisdom guiding them, they could become strong Jedi and I believe that'd make perfect sense for EpVII. Why else would it take place 30 years after ROTJ?

      Delete
    11. With all due respect, I have to disagree. Although you believe that Yoda could have been referring to Leia's offspring, Yoda specifically mentions another Skywalker, and when Luke asks Ben, Ben tells him that the other is his twin sister, not her potential offspring. Also, you say that "as we know", Leia's offspring are strong with the Force. Do we know that? The fact the Han and Leia have offspring is EU, and as we know, the EU is not canon. As for EpVII taking place 30 years after ROTJ, that has nothing to do with the potential offspring. Common sense tells us that since its been 30 years since the original release of ROTJ and J.J. wants the big three in this movie, it only makes sense that the characters have aged 30 years just like the actors portraying them.

      Delete
    12. I'm quite honestly not seeing your points entirely justified. They can all very easily be reinterpreted.

One example to add to my post above. Corsucant was first from the EU, it was not canon. But later it was used by Lucas in the PT. Now it's canon. It's as simple as that. You can't discard everything.
By the way my only connection to the EU is the Thrawn books. Never checked anything else.

    1. It's not dead, just set on the shelf and labeled as "not canon." What you must understand is that Star Wars is, has been and always will be a movie based franchise. You can't expect them to directly transpose the Thrawn Trilogy into film and slap "Sequel Trilogy" on there like it's Lord of the Rings. It's never been a film series based entirely on books so why would they change that now? I can see them implimenting stories from the EU into more video games, TV series and other mediums like that so it may not be dead, but as of right now we've been told that they're setting it aside for now.

      Delete
    2. We shouldn't forget the existence of the LFL Story Group, to make future Movies, TV,Publishing and games fit together. their are no more canon levels, it will just be the Star Wars Universe.

      Delete
  12. Mara Jade is maybe the only EU character I'd like to see on screen. Considering that Ep7 is set 35 years after Ep6, I think we could see her on flashbacks that explain the story between her and Luke, and how the children of Luke were conceived.

If they don't use Mara, the wig could be used for an hypotetical Mara's daughter, or for a young girl totally unrelated to the Big Three, who has the same physical and personality traits of Mara.

But of course this wig can be used for something totally different, like a red Bantha tail.

  14. Oh no! I've always felt wigs, dyed hair, and fake colored eyes were JJ's weak point as a director (eg: Peter Weller in Into Darkness). The hair looks more cold yellow than blonde etc. Natural hair as seen in Super 8 is much better and more Star Wars than any flamboyant stagey wig. The whole challenge of high fantasy is making totally fantastical events look as grounded and real as possible. To that end I think the hair and eye color of actors should dictate that of the characters, not the other way around.

    1. You sir are correct, it is a little bit racist though... Why is GL so addicted to black people these days?

      Delete
    2. So it's okay if Lucasfilm focuses on an overwhelming number of white people, but if there's more than one or two black people rumored for casting, it's suddenly racist?

      Delete
    3. Well, almost every lead looks to be black so...

      Delete
    4. Because all those white folks in the prequels worked out so well..........

      Delete
    5. It's ok if they cast black people on lead roles, but in Star Wars 7 the most obvious group of leads is the one made of Han's, Leia's and Luke's offsprings, and so they would be all white, unless some rare genetic transmutation happens.

Leads have been white in the PT and in the OT, and they have been more or less related. ( Anakin, Padme and Obi - Luke, Leia and Han ).
This is why rumours about black actors are being taken badly, not because of racism, but because of common sense regarding the Star Wars saga.

      Delete
    6. It makes perfect sense for Han and Leia's offspring to be white, but Luke's potential offspring doesn't have to be because Mara Jade was never in any of the movies. What if Lucasfilm decides to make her black or Asian? Naturally, that affects their offspring.

  19. Don't let Lucas fool you. "Creative Consultant" isn't exactly sharpening Abrams pencils or talking to Bob Iger once every couple of weeks when Iger has an interesting question. Lucas isn't producing or directing, that's already been done (and to mixed results of course in the previous six). He's tackling a third control option, one that at his age is the best, which is communicating what he wants without having to get "physical" in the day-to-day grind. Don't believe me, read the definitions of the legal term he's bound by with Disney. It's their baby now, but he still gets to spit shine the product. Three outlines (sequel trilogy) and, given that he had three more episode outlines of varying length at least in the past, would also point to the spin-offs being his as well (at least three of the many spin-offs Bob Iger mentioned for the future). As for the EU, there are valid points for using characters from that rich tapestry, characters many would recognize regardless of whatever direction Lucas' overall arch proceeds; however, would it be a crime to not use so much from the books? I would say no to that. DO you really want a trilogy that spells out for you what you've already read in a series of novels? They'll probably use a few items (character or planet names, like Coruscant in the prequels) and even as we've heard a few characters albeit altered. In the end, let's not waste time picking at each other with the old "you're a doo-doo head and you're so wrong" gibberish because in the end, most of us, in the end, will still be generating the revenue for the future of this long and winding road that's been going for over forty years now.

    1. Lucas as a creative consultant is for one sole purpose; to PACIFY the Lucas bleeding hearts, the die hard Lucas fan, etc.etc.
He has done very little in creating the original trilogy after StarWars Ep4 other than Synopsis and mild changes In dialogue, most of what he does is suggest things, sees what he gets, then approves or sends a design back, then tells the editor when to cut. Coppola a screen writer even admitted that Lucas could not write a script to save his life. And he has even used Carrie, cause she can write and imbelish. Lucas jots down ideas on a legal pad.
Disney did not pay 4.5 Billon for that. They bought a successful franchise that was created by a ton of gifted and talented people other than Lucas.

      Delete
    2. After Jar Jar Binks would Disney want to let Lucas anywhere near scripts and characters for the upcoming movies!

      Delete
    3. Then the point of argument on anything here is useless and repetitive. With or without Lucas, the francize will be somebody's gold egg, and regardless of what we think, new Star Wars movies, both terrific or terrible, will continue to be made, ad infinitum.

  32. It is getting ridiculous. we won't know until the film comes out in December 2015. I'm an OT fan ans I'm looking forward to what's going to happen. You PT and EU fans should be doing the same thing Do you all realize that there are people out there that don't give a fuck about Star Wars so it's not like it's going to start WWIII or anything.

    1. If all these words typed here were bullets, we would've won any war imaginable. . .

    2. Wars are not won they are waged, and then the losses are tallied and forgoten by most. No war can be won at all, bullets are a waste and actions are louder than words. Life is redundant just like Star Wars.

    3. Agreed, but I was using a euphemism to explain the fact that we are wasting words. As to the "life is redundant just like Star Wars" comment, that sounds like a personal comment, and doesn't effect anything here on the message boards.

  33. The hateful comments coming from the EU/PU fans & the insanity from the freakquel fans is really entertaining. It's almost as entertaining as the ridiculous dialog of the freakquels, and the lame plots of the EU/PU.

    1. I like Star Wars a lot and Darth Vader even more and your comment is just as bad as all the rest to point out hate full then categorize them into groups, damn you got some kind of logic. Are you SERIOUS?!?!?!

  34. 7, 8, and 9 will never be like the original they will be like the PU/EU. So the original is dead.
