UPDATE! Please Report Any Issues With The Site Here.

Hey guys I would like to hear your input on several things. Please hit the jump for more...

UPDATE!

A proposition to all Anonymous commenters: I saw several Anonymous comments with a name at the end of their post. This would greatly improve the discussion. If you post as Anonymous just because it's easy that way or because you don't want to use the other possibilities, please just write a name at the end of your comments with which everyone can recognize you. Of course it doesn't have to be your real name.

First of all there's been plenty of hate recently in the comments section. As I posted in the comments, any comment with even the slightest insult towards another member will be deleted. No matter if he is a member or Anonymous.

Sorry if sometimes I miss some of these comments. There's been plenty of news and comments lately and with the blogger system it is hard to track things. Actually the other comment system that we've tried a few weeks ago had a great moderation of the comments but unfortunately it had some other issues as you might remember. Also have in mind that I'm in Europe and my time zone is 10 hours ahead of the US.

Nevertheless right now I'm looking for a second author for the blog to help me with the news and the moderation. As you know the real filming starts just in a few weeks time and there will be even more bits to cover.

As some of you might know I work as a digital compositor at a post production company. We're currently doing the post on the new Street Fighter movie which will air on Machinima in May. So I'm not doing this blog for a living. Still some ad companies contacted me if I want to run their ads and of course I didn't turn them down.

Now here I want your help. I read that some of you had issues with the ads. I didn't agree to have any ad bars and pop up ads on my blog. Thanks for pointing that out to me. I contacted the ad company and asked them to remove any bars and pop ups. I hope they will do that on Monday.

Also I read that some of you are having issues with the loading time of the blog. This is not right. I've tried it on several different operating systems and it loads pretty quickly, below 2 sec. Do you have slow loading times on your mobile devices? Do you have any security alerts when visiting the site?

Any comment and recommendation will be appreciated. Please state your opinion. I'm trying to make this place better for you.

And please respect each other's opinion in the comments. I'm really surprised at the rivalry between OT, PT, EU or whatever Star Wars fans. It shouldn't be that way. If things gets worse I'm going to suspend the anonymous option.

Edit: I found the option how the remove the pop up banner on your mobile devices. It should be OK now. Sorry for the trouble.

  1. This page is incredible. Thanks off your amazing work, how anyone could write something involving hate after the amazing time you spend on it is baffling. Keep sourcing that information!!!

  2. You've done an incredible job with this. The ads are not an issue. The speed is not an issue. The comments...meh. It's unfortunate that people can be so petty/grumpy, but it is the way of things. Again, you are doing a great service to many, and I am very thankful for all you do.

  3. I like the Anonymous option because it's unique on these kinds of sites, so I hope it stays. It just makes it easier to post. I post Anonymous and I try to keep my comments positive. Sometimes people jump down my throat on some of my speculations, but so be it, Jedi. A lot of us on here are using intuition to guess what is happening behind the scenes. So there doesn't have to be a right or wrong... it's just the conjecture of one fan.

    1. Agree. All I have to say is "I liked Star Wars I: The Phantom Menace" and I get brutally criticized and bullied. Perhaps you should delete all comments that are hateful, or make it a rule to post only positive comments. We are all Star Wars fans and we should be unified, not divided amongst each other.

  4. The Hate is easy to spew by those who like to remain anonymous and NOT be accountable to what they write. The Anonymous option should be eliminated completely IMO.

And Viral has done an AMAZING job with this site!!! After word broke on D-Day of 2012 I started searching the net for SW 7 news constantly. I found Viral's site and can easily say that it is the B E S T site for current ST / Spinoff / Rebels news on the web period. He updates constantly and thrououghly and even posts the current speculation and rumors, which again IMO are all part of the fun anticipation of a new SW release. Kudos!

  5. I love the site! Load is quick for me, and ads don't really bother me; they're easy enough to ignore. I do agree that the negativity needs to be curbed-we're all here as fans. Sure, some ideas I've seen tossed out by posters is pretty bizarre or uninformed, sure I have preferences (I'm pretty stoked that the EU is being largely ignored, though there were parts of that I enjoyed.) Still, we can be civil, or be quiet.

  6. I love your site, the comments section and the Anonymous option. I hope every effort is made to keep it. :)

  7. I'd get rid of the anon option and make people register like a message board. That'd get rid of a lot of the childish trolling and fighting right off the bat. And the people who stay would feel more like a community. Otherwise, I like the format of the site. I come here at least once a day.

    1. This would probably also make it possible to suspend or ban repeat offenders. I've never understood the need to be aggressive or insulting in a forum. It does nothing for the conversation except to make the more mature folk feel they're in a group of 12 year olds. The loading speed and ads have never been an issue for me - I don't think I've seen a banner yet - just the side bar ones and one below the post. I don't think they don't interfere at all, and if it keeps this site maintainable we'd be stupid to complain.

    2. Although one thing I just noticed - I have the option to delete a post I write, but not edit it. Is there a reason for that, or just not an option? It might allow people to change their mind about what they say, or how the spell it before too many others see it. Just a thought.

    3. Unfortunately the blogger comment system is limited. You can't edit your comment. I hope they improve that in the future. When I want to edit my comment I simply copy the whole comment, delete it and then paste it as a new comment with the fix.

  8. I can't reply any coment. I use Mozilla Firefox :v

    1. You can post comments but can't reply to comments? That's weird. What operating system are you using? PC, MAC, Linux? What happens when you press the reply button?

  9. I think your site is great, and you really took over with all the news. I always come here first to check for updates. Since this is about the sequel trilogy, I think the news articles should stick to that exclusively, as someone said "the EU is PU, and the prequels are poodoo". Thanks for your great site.

  10. YES thankyou!! no more hate comments!
btw how would someone apply for the helper position?

  11. Sarcasm and cynicism are fine when commenting, but personal insults and hate attacks should be a total no-no. Those kind of postings are not in keeping with what is one of the best, most entertaining and informative fan sites on the web.
PS I use 'anonymous' because it's quick and easy to post, (but it still requires a legit email address).

  12. No problems with load times. However, posting comments on my iphone does not work. All postings have to be on a desktop.

  13. @Viral Hide ~~ answering your questions~~ Exactly, I can post comments but I can't reply. My operational system is Win 7. And when I press the reply button nothing happens, I think it's a javascript problem.

    1. I really can't help you with that. Have you tried using a mobile device. Is the problem the same?

  14. Thanks for taking down the banners on mobile devices and caring viral. Good work as always!

  15. Great website, but the anonymous trolls do take away from it somewhat.

  16. Great site! It's my go-to for SW7 news. The fact that this entry exists at all (and that you're reading and considering our feedback) is refreshing. Being able to vote comments up/down (anonymously) would be a bonus feature -- might also help 'flag' problematic comments -- but otherwise haven't had any problems with the site.

  17. Message board please.

  18. Just wanted to say - your site has quickly become the ONLY site I check for Episode VII news. Congratulations and thank you on the stellar work. I say, any ad offers you get you should take as you should be rewarded for the work you put into the site. Hopefully this anonymous option remains but I understand why you'd want to delete it. A message board would be ... interesting, to say the least.

  19. "suspend the anonymous option" Most of the posts I've seen deleted have names, which are fake so really everyone is anonymous regardless.

  20. I'm really happy with this blog, it is the only one with all the new news of star wars and the news comes really fast, I don't have problems with the loading, great job this. I also think that everyone will help you if you've problems with the blog.

  22. Starwars7news, as a Star Wars fan for the last 15 years, I wanted to thank you and congratulate you for all of your great work. I must say that I visit this site 4-5 times a day for the last year hoping for updates. I also want to include that I visit this site much more than the official star wars site.
Keep on the great work, I am with you daily!
May the force be with you,
    Chris

  23. I just wanted to say thank you for all the work that you put into this, I check a couple times a day and it's awesome to have it all in the same place! Also, please don't suspend the anonymous option! I'm not a member of any of the other profile options so that's all I have to comment with.
    Thanks,
    ~Angie~

  25. Your site cheers me up! It helps me interrupt stressful days with something playful . . . total escapism. Your site is better than the official sites. I often head here first!!

Totally awesome. Keep up the good work! We are counting on you for 9 years to come.

  26. Hi Viral Hide, we really appreciate the time and effort that must go in to keeping on top of running a site like this, thank you so much! I do not go anywhere else for my Star Wars news and thoroughly enjoy the comments and ideas presented from other fans although and like you, i do not enjoy the bashing on any level.
I am Anonymous, it would be a shame to be rid of the option and i feel banning those with inappropriate behaviors, would be a more practical solution.
Thanks Viral, you are one with the force, Awesome!
