UPDATE 2! Investigation on the Abu Dhabi and Cairo Rumors + First Image from the Star Wars: Episode 7 Set. Is That the Foot of an Imperial Walker?

star wars

Few days ago THR gave more weight to JediNews rumor that Star Wars: Episode VII will shoot in and around Abu Dhabi, which is part of the United Arab Emirates, beginning mid-May for a four-week shoot. Now a local news site posted an image supposedly taken from the set and made an investigation if the rumors are legit...

From TheNational:
The National photographer Mona Al Marzooqi has captured what are believed to be the first images of Star Wars: Episode VII set deep in the Abu Dhabi desert.

The photos, taken on Tuesday morning in the dunes near Qasr Al Sarab resort, reveal a large encampment of tents with four to five workers moving around what appear to be parts of a filmset.

It is one piece of equipment in particular, however, that is the most suggestive: a giant, round, grey disc, which bears a striking resemblance to parts of an escape pod on which C3P0 and R2D2 crash-landed on Tatooine in the original, 1977, Star Wars: A New Hope film.
star wars
According to sources within the local film industry, crew members have already been hired for the Abu Dhabi leg of the secret production.

However, no one at the petrol station, two cafes and two shops in the closest town, Himeem, had any inkling of a nearby movie set or unusual construction.

“I live around here, it’s totally my home area and I’m sure if anything as big as that was going on I’d know about it,” said an Emirati farmer.

“I’m always here, and I’ve definitely seen nothing like that. It’s just business as usual.”

That round object doesn't look like an escape pod to me (the image above) but I could be wrong. Still it does look like a set prop.

UPDATE!

And thanks to carlo senno from the comments for pointing this out. This prop does look like an Imperial Walker's foot:

UPDATE 2!

Here's a great investigation from the same site TheNational on the topic.
We began our enquiries (about a possible filming happening in Cairo). Scepticism was instantly appeased when several solid sources in the Egyptian film industry claimed that there was absolutely no way on Earth it could be going on without them — or someone they knew — having heard about it, and they hadn’t. It was, said one, actually taking place in Jordan — a rather more plausible option and a place that has provided the backdrop for a few massive blockbusters (Transformers, Zero Dark Thirty, The Hurt Locker).

But no, The Royal Film Commission of Jordan, which oversees all such productions, flat out denied it.
jordan

Initial digging proved predictably fruitless, with twofour54 — the only Abu Dhabi production company really big enough to handle such a project and the parent organisation of the Abu Dhabi Film Commission — saying they hadn’t heard of anything. But then, slowly but surely, other teasing nuggets of info started coming out of the woodwork.

A rather big cheese in the local industry revealed he’d known about the shoot “for ages”, but couldn’t say more despite our best attempts at Jedi mind trickery. Other sources hinted that a production crew had been hired, while production companies in Dubai said they weren’t involved as it was “all happening in Abu Dhabi”. A contact, not in the film business, claimed to know someone who spotted Abrams on a flight to the capital in recent weeks. It seemed we were on to something.

In perhaps the most amusing bit of investigative reporting, a friend told us that her colleague had been chatting to a fellow via the iPhone app Tinder, who — in a gross act of flirtation — had revealed that he was an assistant director on a major film shoot in Abu Dhabi, inviting her to guess what? That’s right, Star Wars.
star wars

Unconfirmed but reliable sources later stated that the hotel at Qasr Al Sarab, the vast fort-like resort out in the Liwa Desert, been booked up long in advance and was indeed housing the cast and crew, but that filming itself was happening elsewhere, no doubt out in a specially created set. Also, there are rooms available now and through most of May — save for a week-long block starting on May 19 — we checked.

If you were not convinced that they will be filming in Abu Dhabi, you should be now.

  1. Its actually a plug for the Special Edition Sarlacc pit that Boba has put on, as so no one falls in and has to put up with that terrible Little shop of horrors snapping mouth as he preferred it before the Special Edition as well...

    3. If you look closely at the design lines on that disc, and compare with the At-At 3D imaging, they match. That's not me being hopeful, it happens to be true by vision. Maybe an AT-At on Tatooine ? Maybe they're visiting another sandy planet? Maybe in this trilogy they're actually coming to. . .Earth. . . .

    4. Long ago, distant galaxy remember? No warp/portals/time tunnels here, keep earth to others. This is Star Wars. ;-)
That said yes it's an At-At foot 100%, 70% in reality because it appears to be flattened on one side.

    5. You're right. I just don't want to see a reverse of how the aliens ended up in Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull like they did.

  3. The usual confusion ... mention snow, and the story is 'return to Hoth'. Sand, and it's Tatooine. A grey disc and it's an escape-pod. Next up will be a black triangle on a stick which will become Vader's helmet :-) (it's a road sign). All good silly fun though.

  6. I've heard from a fairly reliable source that the Star Wars production will be setting up camp at the high school in Portree on the Isle of Skye during the summer. This came from someone who worked on Macbeth (also shot on Skye) who said he was coming back to work on Star Wars.

    1. That's really cool. Thanks for sharing. It fits with the other rumors about the Isle of Skye.

    2. THAT would be a nice new planet environment to be seen. I once jotted down a bunch of environments after Sith came out that we've never visited that would be earth inspired, and surprisingly, there's still plenty to be seen. Hope we get to see a lot of them instead of just Tatooine in every film, depending on the amount of time spent there (and we can already figure that there will be quite a bit of time spent there in Ep7 more than likely).

  7. If it is indeed the foot of an AT-AT, then it's only a static version, possibly wreckage that actors climb upon, as otherwise CGI would be used to matte it in. Makes sense, half a century after their creation and 30-odd years after RotJ now that technology must have advanced to at least the degree that the AT-AT has been supplanted by a different design at least once, although the classic walker mode of transport has long had (pardon the pun) legs.

    1. If there are small hidden groups that are still on their own fighting for the Empire they could be still using old equipment and fire power. Kind of like a the rebellion when it was first started. Out that far they could be stockpiling any thing they can find and have been waiting for the right time to act.

      Delete
    2. More than likely this is a prop the actors will be coming directly interacting with. The rest of the walker, or what ever it is, will be added later with CGI. This is a common practice.

      Delete
    3. Ahhh. Perhaps we shall see a "Dark Empire" moment were Luke waves at the thing and it deconstructs into parts right there on the spot. I'm not being sarcastic. I'm putting that out there.

      Delete
    4. That would be fun, to see Luke cause a walker to implode, its joints popping and exploding, then one final BOOM from the bridge as it comes crashing down, throwing a great cloud of dust and dirt over Luke, who then turns and strides out, black cloak blowing.

  8. The excitement levels are cranking up now. This sort of undercover investigative reporting is probably our best hopes for news in between official updates. Even if this story turns out to be false, I think we can expect more and more leaks from the Ep7 sets over the next few months.

    1. I agree. Something of this magnitude will be impossible to keep entirely quiet.

  9. Since Empire is widely held to be the very best entry in the series, could it be that they are deliberately trying to bring in elements from that movie? The Imperial Walkers were surely one of the most striking visual elements in it. Imagine how impressive these mechanical giants could be if rendered in today's effects, with the camera swooping around them and showing them in extreme detail. One fantasy of mine has actually been that our heroes are stranded in the middle of nowhere and come over an abandoned Imperial Walker that has stood there rusting for 30 years! Can they somehow activate it and ride the AT-AT through the desert, the snow or whatever? Imagine the screeching of tormented metal as the gargantuan machine is finally forced back into action ... And now it may seem that we will indeed have an AT-AT in Ep. 7! I'm beginning to think they are doing this right.

    1. Personally I had no doubt that this would be done right. That said, I think your idea is pretty cool -- to salvage an old walker in the desert. BUT what if the Imperials haven't quit yet and there's a band of remnants still fighting for the Empire or something. Also, bear in mind that they might just plant that foot in the desert just as some wreckage set dressing . . .

Any way you slice though it's cool and exciting as Hell! :)

Might this be Geonosis rather than Tatooine?

    1. Not Geonosis IMO. This is desert. Geonosis was rock.

      Delete
    2. Geonosis had plenty of desert. They were chasing Dooku over sand dunes when Padme got knocked out of that gunship.

If it's not Geonosis, though, and if that IS an Imperial Walker foot, then I would seriously doubt that we're looking at Tatooine here. What would the Empire have been doing there that would have warranted deploying walkers? Stomping the rubble of the Lars homestead a little bit flatter? ;^)

      Delete
    3. Good point about Geonosis. There were dunes. In fact Tatooine was rocky as well. So very similar planet environments.

I still think it's Tatooine though.

    7. It's Tatooine. What are the Imps going to do, send out a squad of walkers to take out Anchorhead?

    8. They are probably going to go to tosche station to pick up some power converters.

      Delete
    9. Yes it's Tatooine. What are the Imps going to do?? .. um well like I said, you don't know what the story is..

      Delete
    10. No, I don't know what the story is. Does that really change the fact that Tatooine has always been a nothing dustball out at the ass-end of nowhere?

Yes, the story could be written so that we are to believe that Tatooine suddenly became a major strategic Imperial target of some kind in the 30 years since ROTJ, but then again they could also write it so that Dagobah has become a resort planet where people go to get a really good suntan too... doesn't mean it'd make a helluva lot of sense.

      Delete
    11. If this film is going to be based on film canon, there has been nothing to inform us that Tatooine is a "dustball out at the ass-end of nowhere".. The only thing to even suggest that was a waste of space was when Luke said "Well, if there's a bright center to the universe, you're on the planet that it's farthest from.". But clearly it was one of Luke's many exaggerations. Vader's son lived there, old-ben lived there to protect him, Han Solo may have lived there or traveled there a lot for all we know, as Jabba's palace was also there. It's clear the place is of some significance, and it had growing civilization. The only real barren wasteland that we saw was Hoth, and we saw a battle there because the Rebels used it to hide. There's no reason why Tatooine can't host any more story elements.

      Delete
    12. Anon, April 16 5:48 that's simply not true. Episode I - "You can't take her Royal Highness there! The Hutts are gangsters! If they discovered her…!"
"It would be no different than if we landed on a system controlled by the Federation, except that the Hutts aren't looking for her, which gives us the advantage."

So, basically, this is implying that the planet is over run by gangsters. Why? Because no one cares about this planet.

Episode VI - An older, wiser Luke - "There's nothing to see. I used to live here, you know." So he's still exaggerating even after he has grown to be Jedi?

      Your arguments fall hallow.

      Delete
    13. Also, why was Ben living on this planet close to Luke? Because this is a place people go to hide. It's not a heavily traveled planet and therefore, people can hide.

      Delete
    14. Rebel Scum, that's exactly right. People went to Tatooine to hide/disappear precisely because it was so thoroughly insignificant on a galactic scale. This was established over and over again in the movies. The notion that there would be some massive ground battle there involving Imperial walkers doesn't make a lick of sense. To have something like this in the new movie would just seem way too much like "Hey, the fans love Tatooine... the fans love Imperial walkers... let's put Imperial walkers on Tatooine!"

      Delete
    15. aaaand you haven't bothered to understand what I said lol. He argued that Tatooine is a "dustball out at the ass-end of nowhere". I corrected him and pointed out that Tatooine was not a dustball out of the ass-end of nowhere, but a dustball out at the ass-end of nowhere would be somewhere like Hoth, where there was no civilisation or significance going on there. Duh, it's a very rural planet like most star wars planets we have seen, and has nothing like the establishments on something like Coruscant, but it doesn't mean there can't be anything happening on that planet, even like a war or something. Because, you know, it's star wars.. A fantasy genre with loads of wars in it... We've seen loads of stuff happen on pretty wasteless lands, such as the likes of Kashykk, utapau. mygeeto, endor, yavin 4, felucia, Geonosis, Kamino, etc etc etc. They all looked pretty shitty, but they had an importance to what the story needed, so it doesn't matter. Who cares how shitty they looked and how many gangstas there were or whatever? You don't need a setting to be full of civilisation and royalty and politics for it to be important to what the story needs. Especially baring in mind this is a galaxy that has freakin' hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of other planets, so it would be extremely rare for every single planet to have a huge importance to the overall galaxy wouldn't it..? The fact people cling onto silly tidbits of quotes about how much of a rock Tatooine is, and how there were gangstas there, and therefore boycot any chance for anything significant to happen, is just hysterical.

      Delete
    16. "no civilisation or significance going on there." What civilization or significance is on Tantooine? Jawas? Sand People? Moisture fams? This planet is so desolate that they have to farm for moisture!

Bob:; "So I had to get to work 20 minutes earlier than usual today."
Sally: "Oh yeah? So did you get up 20 minutes earlier than usual then?"
Bob: "No actually I just decided to park my car a mile away from my house."
      Sally; "Um you what?"
Bob: "I didn't get up 20 minutes earlier. I parked my car far away from my house instead"
Sally: "BUT WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT!? THAT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE BOB! YOU HAVE TO SPEND TIME TO WALK A MILE TO GET TO YOUR CAR WHEN YOU HAVE TO GET TO WORK EARLY?? WHAT THE HELL BOB YOU IDIOT!!"
Bob: "Well no hang on, you don't know the full details yet. Yes, normally it would make no sense as it would take time to walk to my car. But I calculated that it takes longer to drive out of my neighbourhood with all the traffic, then it takes to just walk out of the neighbourhood, and then get in the car afterwards. You see Sally, it doesn't make sense at first, but now that you know the details, it makes sense doesn't it?"
Sally; "Oh yes Bob. How ignorant of me to presume that it doesn't make sense when I only knew 30% of the overall information and put you down for not choosing another alternative such as getting up 20 minutes earlier because on paper, that would have been the clearer choice. But now that I know the reason behind the decision, it does indeed now make sense. Wow how could I have been so stupid to think that you would have parked your car a mile away from your house for no real reason? I can't believe I actually claimed that you didn't think it through just because it didn't make sense to me personally at the time. Oh how silly of me hahahaaa"
Bob: "hahaaaa yes, how silly of you."
      The end.....

    18. My goodness, you park your car a mile away from your house? Doesn't that get old? What kind of neighborhood do you live in that it takes longer to drive a mile outside of your home than it takes you to walk it? You must live in NY, NY..... a very significant place. That's exactly the type of place the Empire would invade. Not like the desert areas in the mid-west. I bet you could drive a mile there faster than you could walk it.

    25. Don't need to dis your story. Your story does that on it's own. The mere fact that you had to write it suggests that you have no other basis for your argument. You are assuming that since we don't know the plot, it could be anything. However, we must discern logically from what we do know.

1 - Tatooine is a desert planet - limited resources - they have to farm moisture!
2 - Tatooine is always referred to in the movies (canon) as an insignificant planet. If you can prove me wrong, show me where in the movies Tatooine is some significant chess piece in the galaxy.
3 - Tatooine is such a remote and ignored planet that Darth Vader (from there himself) never thought to look for Obi-wan or Luke there. The only time he got close to the planet after becoming Darth Vader (in the movies/canon) was when he was chasing Rebels. BTW, Vader still didn't go down there, simply sending his minions while he went back to the Death Star to kick back and down a few brewskies. Okay, that last part was a stretch. But hey, it could have happened.

Are you the one that can give me evidence of Tatooine's significance in the galaxy? I've been trying to squeeze it from one of you for the past few posts buy it seems there's no real evidence to back it up, other than that we simply don't know.

      Delete
    33. Again, you're talking rubbish. just because we haven't seen anything like a war on tatooine before, doesn't mean we shouldn't therefore see anything like a war in the future. It's ridiculous. Yes Tatooine is a desert. But so was Hoth and they managed to get a war there because of the story. What matters is the STORY. We don't know what the story is yet, so it's pathetic to just dismiss it at this stage. How do you know that there are limited resources? Maybe the empire wants to take over all the desert lands to mine for something. Maybe they want to set up a military base there as it's close to a more armed planet?? Who knows?! It could literally be absolutely anything! It doesn't matter what's happened on Tattoine in the past. What matters is the context of why there would be a war there now at this point in time. We don't know the reason, so the fact you are against it when you know nothing about the details is hilarious. You don't know there are limited resources, we only saw a smidge of the entire planet. Who cares that there are gangstas? "Tatooine is such a remote and ignored planet that Darth Vader (from there himself) never thought to look for Obi-wan or Luke there." WHO CARES!?!? Your points have absolutely nothing to do with anything that could be about the plot of episode 7. You have no idea what you are talking about. I'll go back to my Bob and Sally story. You're putting down something when you know 0% of the context behind it. It doesn't take a genius to work out that's a foolish thing to do. I can't believe I'm even having such a stupid conversation.

      Delete
    34. No, that wasn't me. I haven't the foggiest clue what he was talking about. I think he got mad and left to cool off. However, as I was saying earlier when I popped in, there are no clues other than these pictures or the rumors being said, and I agree with you on this point. Is it possible that seeing Tatooine in all six movies to varying degrees points to the possibility of it being in Ep7? That too would not be a silly possibility. But you are right; no actual tangible proof exists until they say so or we see so on Dec 18th.

    35. Ok. your friend Anon came back in while I was typing. I hadn't noticed.

    36. And ANon@8:33 does have a point here as well. All I can say is that we will find out eventually unless the world goes to war.

      Delete
    37. Hoth was not a "war". It was a battle. The Rebels left Hoth at the drop of a hat and never went back. Hoth was a hiding place, just like Tatooine.

You're not giving me any facts. You're giving me speculation. I can also speculate that Hoth is now a thriving metropolis. But would that be logical with what we know? Maybe Naboo is a desert planet now because its orbit was knocked out of whack from the Death Star bumping into it while being constructed. That's all speculation that could happen in 7. But as you can see, not very plausible, Anonymous Agent Clone.

"You're not giving me any facts. You're giving me speculation."
...That't because there aren't any facts. There are no facts. Period. Hence arguing against the idea of being an at-at on tatooine is stupid because we don't know the facts yet. This exactly is my point.. There is no reason why an at-at shouldn't show up at mos eisley and start shooting the crap out of the city. To argue against this because darth vader didn't look for luke there, and there are lots of gangtas there, and blah blah blah, is completely unrelated and therefore stupid. You're arguing, like the bob and sally story, without any context or details. The details of the rumour are as follows, an at-at on tatooine. This is all we know, and I am simply saying, it's plausible. I even gave examples, maybe they are looking for resources only found on desert plannets. Maybe they want to take over to create a military base. Yes, of course this is speculation. Because we don't know the facts. You have not given me a single answer as to why the empire cannot or should not plonk an imperial walker on tatooine.

      Delete
    39. So, you're attacking Mos Eisley for what reason? What are you trying to gain by taking over the Cantina? Free drinks at the bar? Watch the movies, there's not much on the planet. It just doesn't make any sense.

Let's talk about "your" Bob and Sally story, Sally doesn't have any context to know what Bob is talking about. She has no prior information. However, with Tatooine, we have prior information. And the prior information we have is that it's a desert rock floating in space that no one cares about. That's what makes the planet interesting, because that's where people like Han Solo are found. In the cracks and crevasses that no one cares about or looks into or invades with AT-AT armies.

      Delete
    40. "So, you're attacking Mos Eisley for what reason?"
..are you serious? Are we still doing this? I'm starting to think you are a troll. I've said about 5 times. We don't know the reason. Does that mean it's bad because we don't know the reason? No. It simply means we don't know the reason..
"Let's talk about "your" Bob and Sally story"
What do you mean "your" Bob and Sally story? I just made it up. Why did you put commas over the word 'your'?...
"Sally doesn't have any context to know what Bob is talking about."
The story is an example. Why would Bob park his car far away from his house on purpose when he wants to get to work early? The same as the question, why would the empire dump an at-at on Tattooine that is so remote? Well, there must be a reason. We just don't know it yet. Like you said yourself. "you're attacking Mos Eisley for what reason?"
      "She has no prior information."
You don't need prior information.. She doesn't need to know the colour of the car, what bob had for breakfast. She only needs to know the facts. Why would bob park his car away when he wants to get to work on time? Why would the empire take over tattooine, when it's a remote planet?
"That's what makes the planet interesting, because that's where people like Han Solo are found. In the cracks and crevasses"
Yeah exactly. We care about the planet. So wouldn't it be tragic to see it being taken over by the empire? Wouldn't that be a great way to set up some characters as they have to escape? Wouldn't that be interesting?
"In the cracks and crevasses that no one cares about or looks into or invades with AT-AT armies."
Your right. The empire has not had any need for Tatooine in the past. But that doesn't mean we should rule out the future. Like I have said for the millionth time. You still have not argued against my point. We don't know the context. I shall continue to repeat myself, maybe they want to take over it to set up a military base. Maybe they like that it's remote because then it would be easy to take over. Maybe it's close to another planet thats more difficult to take over so they want to set up a base close by. Maybe desert planets like Tatooine have resources that they need. We just don't know. Just answer me this one question. Do we know the context? Yes or no. I believe you will find the answer is no. And of course, to argue against the unkown is ridiuclous isn't it.. Isn't it?.. Now please.. Please. I beg of you. Just try. Just try to understand why you are wrong before I put my leg through a blender.

    44. No my argument is based on the fact that it's common sense to not slam an event in a film simply because of the setting, when you don't know anything about the context of the reason of why the event takes place. Ironically, its your argument that's based on speculation. Because we don't know any of the facts as I've said about a hundred times, yet you still just bring up and claim, through speculation, that Tatooine in episode 7 is just a rock floating through space. You're not opening your mind as to why it would be a plot point, because you haven't been told yet. It's the closed minded attitude that just because you haven't been told the reason why Tattooine would be invaded, the reason doesn't make sense, or in fact the reason doesn't exist..
and umm what? You think my Bob and Sally story is based on my life?.. in what way? What are you even talking about? Yeah, 99% you are indeed a troll.

    58. I'm just reading these many many comments in perplexity... this is the first really big argument I've read on this site that isn't about OT fans bashing PT fans. This is the OT against the OT. It's kinda weird.

      Anyways, for my two cents:
It is pretty illogical for the Empire to be enforcing themselves on Tatooine, partularly since it was a planet on the Outer Rim, which has very little use to the Empire. But, as it's been pointed out, JJ Abrams may invent something to bring the Empire there. It still sounds like Disney is trying to butt-kiss to OT fans. They know fans love at-at- walkers and tatooine and stormtroopers, so they think it will make sense to combine all of them. I'm not sold...

    59. "DEKKA129April 16, 2014 at 3:37 PM

I just don't see why the Imperials would ever have used walkers on Tatooine. There's next to nothing there."

Just because you don't see it, doesn't mean there isn't a possibility of that being the case, no matter how much you and Rebel Scum want to argue with Anon about it.
And why are you both so adamant that the use of AT AT's has to relate to some form of assault or offensive? ALL TERRAIN ARMOURED TRANSPORT. Maybe they are simply used as transports on Tatooine just like on Endor in ROTJ. We see them on Endor, but not being used to blast rebels or ewoks.
When Palpatine declares the Republic an Empire in ROTS, he states the Republic will be reorganized into the first Galactic Empire, for a safe and secure society. It's very plausible that the safe and secure society would in part come from the elimination of a criminal underworld/black market from the galaxy. And as Rebel Scum pointed out in his post, Tatooine is over run by gangsters.
And is Tatooine so desolate and insignificant as you both claim? From the movies, we know of Mos Epsa, Mos Eisly, Anchorhead and Tosche Station, 4 villages/towns/cities all of which seem to be within a few hours speeder ride from the Lars Homestead.
And let's not forget the Boonta Eve Classic. Seemed to me like there were a lot of people there in person to watch the race, not to mention the fact that pod races were broadcast on the holonet across the galaxy. Also, much like Formula 1 here on Earth, it wouldn't make any sense (economically) to run an event like that in some backworld location where it would not generate significant revenues, especially since it appears that Jabba is the money behind the event.

    60. I'm an OT fan but I don't hate the PT (although I don't like them very much either). That being said, I think if JJ thinks OT fans would gush over the Empire attacking Tatooine the movie's going to suck big ones.

  18. I notice that the ridging pattern on the base along the outside is almost exactly the same as the walkers.. If this is tru then I guess this means that there will be a war on Tatooine. I really like that idea. Seeing real sets of the cities blow up and all. Would be rather epic and tragic, and a great way to set up the story if Luke or some of the main characters live around there. If imperial walkers are back I hope they look different though. Ralph and Joe did loads of concept art for the walkers. http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100514133842/starwars/images/f/ff/MCQ-atat.jpg

    7. lol "offensive"?? .. No it's just bizarre that people are talking about the EU every time every little thing is rumoured, even though we know it's going to be an original story, it would be highly highly insanely unlikely we will see anything from the EU when the people in charge of ep7 have not read or seen anything from the EU anyway, and KK has specifically said they are creating new characters. I'm not "offended", i'm just baffled as to why people are torturing themselves by fooling themselves into thinking there could be anything from the EU in these movies.

Anonymous April 16, 2014 at 6:14 PM, please share with us how you know that absolutely nothing from the EU will make its way into the movies? You do know that Coruscant isn't the only thing from the EU to make it's way into the canon films don't you? Did you know that Boba Fett also came from the EU? GL has borrowed a few things from the EU to incorporate into the canon films.

I can't believe that some of the EU haters out there refuse to acknowledge that tiny parts of the EU could be used in the ST despite the FACT it has already happened in the past with the OT and PT.

      Delete
    14. I don't know. That seems so highly insanely unlikely and stuff. The reality is that some of their old EU will likely make its way into the new canon. The ultimate irony is that eventually there will be a new EU that will probably be crafted by a lot of the same authors. If the rumors of JJ having repeated meetings with Zahn are true then I would expect him to be at the front of the line (as he should be).

    _______________________________________________________________

I think the title is perfect. Its an 'everything' title conveying a disturbance in the order of things (i.e. Peacetime.) It also has a sense of time to it.

In all our excitement, I think people are overlooking an important piece of the puzzle; That this movie takes place 30 yrs after the events of Return Of The Jedi. I think a lot of us are expecting the gang to just be back in action flying around the galaxy, mopping up the last remnants of the empire.

When the droids land on Tatooine in Ep IV, we get the sense that a LOT of time has transpired. When we encounter Obi-Wan, he's a weathered old man who gets swept up in the tide of change (And this takes place only 19 yrs after ROTS.) Contrast that with Ep VII, which happens over 30 yrs after ROTJ. That's a lot of time.

After bringing balance and training new jedi many,many...many years prior, Luke is almost assuredly back on Tat (probably inhabiting Obi-Wan's abode for continuity's sake) when he is is sought out following this new threat.

I have read that Star Wars canon moving forward will consist of The PT, OT,ST, Spinoffs, Rebels, and the Clone Wars...my question is this:what will happen to the Shadows of the Empire story? This story was part of a huge multimedia venture that consisted of a novel, a comic book, a video game, and a soundtrack. This is perhaps the most significant of all EU works in my opinion as it launched the EU to new heights and dramatically increased interest in Star Wars yet again (beyond what the Zahn novels could do). I wonder if it is scrapped also.

    1. ♫ It is the foot of the AT-AT, if you look close on the side the lines are even there. I'm sure the AT-AT has evolved, Maybe just the foot stayed the same. ♫

Guy on the right :"Are you crazy, I thought I told you not to take it outside! We're gonna get fired. "

  45. Maybe Hoth melted over, and this is one of the walkers that Rogue Squadron downed.

  46. Clearly I now understand what the movie will be about.
It's gonna be called: Star Wars 7 - The Dig

It will be about an archaeological dig discovering an old AT-AT foot in the sand dunes of Taatoine. Now that nobody can make sense out of it at all, it will be all about finding the missing key, to uncover the true story behind that AT-AT foot.

Maybe there was an old war going on? who knows.

  47. I am worried that Disney is looking back more than it is looking forwards. practical effects, tatooine, at-at- walkers, luke/han/leia. I have yet to hear anything "new" and innovative... but then again, I have yet to hear anything.

    1. It's a tightrope. We want it to be cohesive with the OT, but with some new/updated tech, planets, characters. That there are three new leads (not the leads of the OT), at least suggests that they're not just rehashing everything.

  50. I still feel like I`m asleep and having the best dream ever with SW7 - I mean,the return of the big 3,possibly a return to Hoth - and now AT-AT`s,one of the BEST things from the OT! - someone`s gonna wake me up soon as this is too good to be true:}
