    1. Worst part is the shopping of Boyega's head. That, and Driver already looks uncomfortable in armor. Otherwise, not horrific. :)

    1. Pretty good title. The word force should be in it.

    2. Terrible of episode 7. If there is indeed a "balance of the force", then the story is already over and there can't be any sith in episode 8 and 9.

    3. lol, that title goes all the way back to "Star Wars, Episode I: Balance of the Force" in 1997 or '98, shortly before "The Phantom Menace" was officially announced.

Good to see it back in rumorville, though.

    4. If this is indeed a "trilogy of trilogies" (irrespective of any spin-off movies outside the "episode structure"), then "Balance of the Force" might be a good name for Episode NINE. The phrase would then first occur in Episode 1 and finally be fully explored nine movies later. It presupposes, however, that Anakin's mission somehow continues from beyond the grave and that the overthrow of Palpatine was just a step in restoring "balance".

If, as Lucas has suggested, the dark side as such is the "imbalance", then the final and ultimate victory could be the cosmic healing of the entire Force and the elimination of the dark side. Only the light would remain. This of course presupposes that the dark side is not some kind of natural, eternal yin to a light yang, or simply metaphysical "evil" as opposed to "good". It would have to be understood as a real, long-lasting, but ultimately transient "pollution" or "imperfection" in the Force.

    5. Lucas worked closely with Joseph Campbell, who in turn worked closely with Carl Jung.

Based on that, I'm pretty sure that the Dark Side was inspired in Jung's Shadow concept. In this case, that would mean that the Dark Side is not some kind of external entity or energy, but rather the way that Force-sensitives feel and use the Force through their negative emotions.

If this theory's correct, then the key to balancing the Force would not be by destroying the Dark Side, but rather by conquering and subduing it. Just like Luke was supposed to do when he entered the cave in Dagobah…and hence the reason why Yoda told him that he had failed; Luke was unable to contain or control his own negative feelings.

    6. That's the best speculative title I've heard so far. I even prefer it to my own, "Episode VII:Legacy of Lies".

  3. What a bad poster, way to many characters in it and characters look bad .
Hate now that they have to force into the posters all the characters, looks so stupid.

    1. Makes the gender imbalance seem all the more unfair. Though I do like how Leia is front and center.

    2. If this is how Luke, Leia and Han look throughout the movie, I'll be relatively happy with them. (Leia actually looks the best of the three in this shot.) We'll see about everyone else!

All three are in their middle years and that's how folk in their middle years are supposed to look. Even in fantasy, people age. So get used to it.

    4. Was not talking about age but different quality and lighting on the characters etc

Oh, okay. My bad, sorry lol!

    6. Funny, someone else commandeered my "if this is how Luke Leah and Han look" post as their own... :)

  4. Gender imbalance ? Wow if Star Wars must abide by some sort of sexual quota now... Star Wars is mostly about men, so?

    1. Seriously? Is that actually a serious question..?? Alright well let's say it was 8 women and only 2 men. You'd be butthurt as fuck wouldn't you? You'd see the problem wouldn't you? Well that's how a lot of women feel, and how people in general feel who actually like a diverse range of characters, and having women shakes up a lot of the oncreen chemistry, relationships between the characters. Plus star wars in paricular hasn't had many females in the past. It would be great to finally solve the problem and have a first lead female, or a female jedi or female sith that's a main character. Too many butthurt men living in the past and using the past as an excuse for there to be no change.

    2. Let's not re-hash all of this AGAIN. Please.

    3. The debate will never end lol

    4. Star wars should be mostlly about good characters not about males.

We need more females in Star wars 7.

      Delete
    5. lol. well I'm afraid wars can only end when the war has been won. There are still closed minded people out there who don't like having significant female characters in films so the war shall rage on :)

    6. Edit: Sorry my comment was @ Anon 6:47
      Exactly!

    7. As to the gender imbalance: How do you know R2 & 3PO aren't female? C3PO probably is. ;)

      Delete
    8. C3PO is voiced by a man and they refer to R2 as 'him'

    9. You don't seem to have any idea what "gender" really means, buddy.

  5. As for gender imbalance, it should be noted that one major female lead is still uncast (and given how much trouble and time they are taking to find the perfect woman for the job, we can deduce that the part is huge and important).

The poster is great as a work of fan art, though I suspect it would be somewhat "overcrowded" for a real poster. Yet the general quality of the work suggests that if they wanted a REAL poster to use, they could just say the word, and they would be inundated with excellent proposals they could use for free. (Same goes for anything from scripts to costumes, I guess ... they could really cut costs if they wanted to!)

  6. Interesting that the poster-maker assumes Serkis will be "himself" and not a CGI character. He could be great as the "forty-something military type" from the casting call. Of course, Serkis could well be himself _and_ a CGI character, much like in King Kong (only with a greater "human" part).

As for Luke, I expect Hamill will be made up to look rather less "aged and wrinkled" than he is here -- I think I would go for some kind of "ageless" quality in the mature Luke, much like Leia appears in this poster. She could be 40 just as well as 60+.

  7. Domhnall Gleeson is much like Obi-Wan.

  8. And Leia has taken over Mon Mothma's dress and jewelry ... I get it now ...

  9. Nice Photoshop work. The designer's taking too many liberties in assuming that this or that actor will play this or that role (all of them so predictable, that I'm almost sure he/she's got them all wrong), but it's a nice job, all the same.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Oh dear. They didn't even Photoshop the buns on Leia. (She better be sporting them again in ep vii. Just sayin')

  11. Sucks pretty hard.

    ReplyDelete
  12. From strictly a design point of view, I find it cluttered, unbalanced and without focus. There are better ones floating around out there.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Why does everybody think that ep7 have to be about Force User villains?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Well they set up a great mythology. It would be kind of a waste if they didn't utilize it lol

    2. I don't think the baddies will be Sith anymore. But I do believe that darksiders of some kind will have a role to play.

    3. Anon @ 10:14 PM

Would most people really be able to tell them apart?

    4. "Would most people really be able to tell them apart?"

If it's implied in the dialogue, in a clever way that feels as a natural part of a conversation between these characters, it could be easily explained to the audience.

  14. ^ I agree, the villain does not have to be a force user. I want a more compelling villain than someone who can kill ppl with the force

  15. A for effort, but there is too many things I don't like about this poster. Too many PT elements, I don't like how Driver is in mandalorian armour, and its not very good pictures of any of the Big Three. actually Leia looks alright

  23. Problem with these images is the same with fan speculation and that is it only supposes what is known. The authentic one should have things new and hopefully unexpected from the previous movies-- but then with Doug Chiang leading the imagination department, I'm highly skeptical that we won't get much more then what we see here.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Mr Chiang's an excellent designer. Couldn't be a better choice. It was the concessions he had to make when steered by George Lucas' occasionally ill-considered whims that diluted his work. Chiang brought to life many EU spacecraft for the first Vehicles And Vessels guidebook, and they are Star Wars design classics.

      Delete
    2. Baloney. If you look at Chiangs personal stuff like his Robata designs for instance, it's no better in fact they look as if they would fit right in with his PT designs. The guy is top tier on a technical basis and as such is good with filling in the details of a design, but the overall silhouette which is arguable more important to a unique and imaginative design, is boring or visually impractical like the silly Naboo fighters with their heavy front to back ratios and they even had to retcon the R2 design in order for him to fit rather then do the basic task of design the fighter around the droid. I'm afraid a Falcon, TIE fighter or a Slave 1 level design is beyond his scope and we are more likely to get more Naboo fighters, chrome airplanes and bladeless helicopters in these movies. Yes Lucas was lazy in his initial ship ideas but seeing the designs Lucas dismissed they weren't any better so obviously Chiang didn't push the envelope any either like the other designers did on those movies.

  24. Here's an editorial entitled "How 'Star Wars' Ruined Sci-Fi":
