Millennium Falcon dice bought for $37 on eBay by Lucasfilm for Star Wars: Episode 7.

It looks like the famous movie prop hanging in the Millennium Falcon cockpit is missing. Don't worry, a member of Pinewood Studios' art department quickly found a replacement from eBay...

From Metro:
Days into shooting for JJ Abrams seventh film in the franchise, a member of the crew noticed that the accessory was missing from the Millennium Falcon set.

The dice don’t feature prominently in Star Wars films, but producers were apparently keen to keep them in the movie.

Pinewood Studios’ art department scouted around on eBay and managed to find a similar pair for £22 ($37).
A source told The Sun: ‘It was a real last-minute dash to try to find an identical pair. They were very fortunate to find them so quickly.’
eBay Seller Richard McManus said: ‘I’m a huge Star Wars fan. I’m so excited that something I sold will be in the film.’

The attention to the little details and devotion is really remarkable. :)

  1. Wow. Amazing. They easily could've CGI-ed it in, but they went the extra mile. I'm confident VII is in safe hands.

Now I know what to look out for. :)

    1. I prefer the Millenium Falcon cockpit without that movie prop. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the dice only appears in the film of 1977.

    2. It's the dice that he won the Falcon with in a game of Sabacc. I think this prop is great. It adds depth.

    3. I think the cost of CGIing the dice would be a hell of a lot more expensive that paying 37$ on eBay, or alternatively buying a pair of cheap dice and painting them.

    4. That didn't stop Lucas from CGI-ing Yoda's walking Stick in ROTS. A stick... a stick that you can basically grab from going outside, walking 20 feet, and pick it up for free.

    5. But Yoda was a character entirely done in CGI in ROTS. It wouldn't make sense for a practical object to dangle around in a scene with an entirely digital character (not to mention that all of Yoda's scenes demanded that he needed to be digital).

    6. I think Aras is referring to the shot where we see Yoda's walking stick drop to the floor when he's on Kashyyk

  2. I hope (and believe) that they pay attention to much more of that kind of details. I think JJ and co. is taking extreme care of the Ep7 and following movies. :)

  3. I always dug the little touch of having those dice hanging from the Falcon's windshield in ANH. Only, I don't think I ever noticed them in ESB or ROTJ.

Great to see that they're gonna be back in the new flick. I agree, that kind of attention to detail is a great sign that things are going the right way.

(My only quibble... are the dice in that pic truly identical to the ones that hung in the Falcon? When Chewie bumps into them when he first boards the Falcon at Mos Eisley, they look completely gold, without black colored pips.)

  4. Aha! I found what appears to be the seller from whom the production bought the dice, and the pic he has there looks a lot more like what's in the movie:

  5. I guess its a lucky charm sort of thing having the dice there. Maybe if they were in place last week poor Harrison Ford might have had better luck instead of the Falcon door falling on him.

  6. And after December 18, 2015 this prop gold-dice will cost hundreds...
    uh, wait...

  8. The only reason the dice were only in Episode IV is because they were stolen after the shoot.

  9. I thought you doubted The Sun's reliability?

  10. And to think they almost put Andy Serkis in a green suit to play the role of dice...

  11. Shouldn't there be a Wunderbaum dangling there somewhere, as well?

  12. I LOVE this! What a great story! It absolutely confirms that this is a film being made by fans who actually care about the Star Wars saga! I can't wait!

  13. Hope their account didn't get hacked. At least this gives ebay a little publicity. I don't see any Star Wars promotions on its frontpage other than the usual Smartphone/Summer Bikini spam at this time of year.

  14. Wow, just been 'googling' and did not know the story would end up being news on so many websites ;-)
