Several New Star Wars: Episode 7 Rumors.

star wars

The rumors come from Latino Review's latest article on Star Wars. Although they're just rumors they have some very spoilerific content, so be warned...

From Latino Review:
Since we won’t be getting any help from JJ Abrams and the official team until stuff like TMZ photo leaks forces them into it, I think it’s safe to say that I’m 75% sure I know how Star Wars: Episode VII ends. But I’d be a fool to tell anyone that or put it in a column, because that’s something you should get to choose about when it’s revealed to you. I have no doubt we’ll start talking about it sometime, but we have a long time until next December’s release.
So what can we talk about in terms of what we know about Star Wars: Episode VII?
Here are some fun bullet points that have solidified enough through different channels to be reportable:
  • There will be a female villain. Over 50% sure she's a Sith. I'll follow up on this in later weeks.
  • Despite having 30 Years after Jedi to set one up, there is NO New Republic at the start of Episode VII.
  • Boba-Fett-similar armor is around. Probably not for the man himself. Mandalorians? Clone drama? Still unclear on a plot/character connection.
  • John Boyega isn’t a Jedi or a Padawan at the beginning of the movie, he’s the one that has the story arc that brings him into Star Wars’ greater universe. It has echoes of Luke’s arc in A New Hope.

As always take this with the proper dosage of salt.

    2. What he really meant: "I'm 75% sure that I DON'T know how Star Wars: Episode VII ends. But I'd be a fool to tell anyone that or put it in a column, because I would be FIRED from LATINO REVIEW".

    3. Really? I thought it made perfect sense. What he's saying is, if he was to write the ending to the movie in a column before the release date, he would a) be sued to hell by Disney et al., and b) ruin the surprise of the story for millions of people worldwide and probably receive death threats. Plus, by simply posting the end of the movie in the middle of a random article that was not specifically entitled "WARNING: EPIC SPOILERS AHEAD - SW7 Ending Revealed!", those that didn't want to spoil the movie before seeing it would be really disappointed. Why was that confusing?

      Delete
    4. "Why was that confusing?"
What? Nothing you just explained was in that sentence. 'because that’s something you should get to choose about when it’s revealed to you.' is a confusing mess. It says nothing about being sued by disney or death threats or whatever else you are rambling on about. wtf?

    1. "And as far as "no republic" . . . is he saying that there is anarchy?"

No Republic means just that: no Republic. Doesn't mean anarchy (which is not even what most people believe the concept to be, btw). Simply that there is no one body ruling over the entire galaxy.

Every civilized planet/system that we've seen in the films so far (and even in the cartoons and EU) has had one form of government or another in place.

They all could've easily chosen to stay away from a global gvmt., based on all the grief that the Clone Wars and the Galactic Civil War brought to the galaxy. It doesn't take a genius to figure that out, if this were the case.

Yeah, that's all well and good, but don't forget that Abrams has said that casting is still ongoing, and he's also very secretive, so it means that a) Nyong'o or Christie could be the bad guy, b) someone else unannounced has been cast as the bad guy, c) the bad guy has still yet to be cast, or d) we're all totally wrong and the bad guy is male. *Shrugs*

    3. I hope it ends properly rather than a rip-off of something pre-established. They way epiosde III just used the binary sunset thing was stupid. Come up with something memorable because it's awesome not because it's copied! I love the ending where Luke see's Yoda and old-ben as ghosts then Anakin crops up. Very clever. I want to see new memorable moments. All these rumours about cantina scenes and the milenium falcon comming back. Yeah it's fun but I'd hate a rehash

      Delete
    4. It was a symbolic tie-in for a mythology-based story. At the end of EpIII, Luke's leaving Obi-Wan's care and transitioning into the Lars family. In the beginning of EpIV, he's leaving the Lars family and joining Obi-Wan. This is a good device.

      Delete
    5. Yes but the actual shot was a copy. It was a ripoff of the binary sunset for a cheap fangasm. I'm saying I hope episode vii doesn't do this. George could have done something clever with the end but instead he just copied an iconic shot.

    2. You're forgetting about Episode III, which concerns itself with the government turning fascist and genocide occurring on a massive scale. And that about half the cast dies, and almost all of the other half ends up being screwed over for two decades.

      Delete
    3. Then there's the whole "slaughter of the younglings" thing.... Pretty frickin' dark, if you ask me....

      Delete
    4. Ep III and Ep V are close in terms of darkness? I don't think so. Agree with Anon@6:28 & Starkiller, the "slaughter of the younglings" and "fascist gov" and "genocide" and etc for sure puts Ep III as the winner in the "Darkest SW movie" (to date) category.

So lets take a look at some of the darker moments in Ep III:

-mother dies giving birth to twins (just sad sad sad and dark), are kids watching this movie to think this is what happens when twins are born! I mean wow!
-many younglings are slaughtered along with the rest of the Jedi at the Temple (never thought they would actually show or even elude to this)
-a Sith has his hands cut off and is decapitated on command
-A pregnant woman being force choked (I mean come on)
-a Jedi and future Sith losses multiple limbs and is flat on the ground suffering while on fire and with badly burned and charred skin (maybe the darkest moment along with the younglings slaughter), and he is still alive thats dark people!
-A burnt man with no limbs is reassembled in a medical bay :(
-Order 66, and the assassination of so many Jedi (both sad and dark)
-and probably a few I have forgotten!

I think Ep III wins that one going away! Its not even close. Even a fan favorite like Ep V can't compare in the "darkness" category with the Over the Top Darkness and Death in Ep III.

    5. - Nute Gunray and the rest of the Trade Federation leaders are violently slaughtered by Vader.

      - Yoda decapitates two clone troopers on Kashyyyk and later throws his lightsaber into the chest of another one on Coruscant before yanking it out.

      - Palpatine makes quick work of the Jedi extras before fighting Mace. Mace later loses his hand before being violently electrocuted and thrown out the window of a tall building.

      - Bail Organa witnesses a young boy fight off several clone troopers before being violently blasted away.

      - One of Grievous' henchmen is beheaded before Obi-Wan realizes he's not defeated yet.

      - Obi-Wan blasts Grievous several times in his heart. It's somewhat disturbing... burning flesh and organs.

Ummm, yeah... they call that "Star Wars". o_0

  19. Its pretty fucking stupid to say that there won't be a "New Republic" 30 years after ROTJ. Of course there will.

    My predictions:

-The Republic and the Jedi Order has been standing strong without any sign of threats.
-The Jedi Order has already been well developed.
-A Sith Lord will emerge with an apprentice and a dark agenda.

I personally hope that the rule of two will be broken and many Sith will be recruited. It would be so awesome to see a Jedi VS Sith war on film.

    1. That all depends on what exactly happens between VI and VII. A lot can happen in 30 years.

    2. I think the start of the film will start out all fine and dandy. Luke rebuilding the Jedi Order, Han being Han, Leia probably the new chancellor. Then suddenly they get some threat and it all goes to hell. Or maybe the empire is still around who knows.

  20. I think Han's character will be much more served if if he was actively engaged in something important or distressing. He doesn't work as a character without active conflict. It makes him come alive. If he is going to have a larger role, then he is going to have to be at the center of something, right?

If the big 3 were separated for the majority of the movie, it would give the film a grander space, imo,

I think it would also be great if they could have the film working on one level as an introduction to the arc of the new stars, while establishing active conflict and friction at the beginning with Han and Leia (and maybe Luke, but he could e saved for later).

Discovering new, dark elements of the force could be and exciting introduction.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I'm kind of hoping that the main antagonists of this movie AREN'T Sith. Call me crazy, but I think it would be interesting that, since the Force was balanced at the end of _Return Of The Jedi_, that some other threat could take the place of the Dark Side. Maybe said threat could have been suppressed only by the Sith, and that the Jedi are unwittingly causing it to rise once more. And maybe there could be a fragile alliance between Sith survivors and the new generation of Jedi in order to quell the threat for good - which would then lead into a Sith-Jedi war once the threat is out of the question.

Of course, that's probably not going to happen in the Sequel Trilogy, but it'd be cool. They could at least feature a non-Sith antagonist for one of the three/four spin-offs that they have planned.

  28. I've read a lot of comments on a lot of these daily topics and I will now represent the book readers because I have not seen anything. Oh no, red flag, the movies aren't going to be on the books. Case closed. Let's talk about Clone Wars characters and no New Republics and nothing to do with the books where the new characters have originated. Okay, so now that I got that out of the way let's start with Fate of the Jedi series. I think there is a very real possibility that the new trilogy could have a tribe of Sith and even have witches in there for good measure (they do go to Dathomir in Fate of the Jedi where there's Witches/Jedi/Sith). And why not use Vestara as a character in the movies? She's hot, she's a Sith, she could really represent a side of darkness that people don't understand rather than the usual nasty man or woman as a Sith they seem to always do, and everyone is saying Episode 7 will have Tatooine from the pictures, I'm just saying in the Fate of the Jedi series there is Klatooine where they go to which is like Tatooine. 9/10 it will probably be Tatooine because of the Skywalker legacy blah blah blah boring but I'm tossing Klatooine out there to make the point there are other desert planets. I'm not saying any of this will happen I'm just saying that's what the current story had been and that they may take some things from that, such as Coruscant was used from the Timothy Zahn trilogy. Even the Han Solo book trilogy might be adapted to a young Han Solo stand alone movie, or they'll make that all up again too. Who knows? It's weird. But I'll always be a fan, even of two Star Wars realities.

  30. as I (and others) mentioned prior, and now in this article "Boba-Fett-similar armor is around. Probably not for the man himself. Mandalorians? Clone drama? Still unclear on a plot/character connection." has been mentioned by LR, probably a good time to discuss this ST & The Mandalorian connection. Would be cool to see an article on starwars7news speculating re: The Mandalorians and their potential influence on the ST. ;)

I still believe that Adam Driver will represent what is to become "The Mandalore" (or soon to be THE Top Mandalorian) in the ST.

Mandalorians will project nicely into the ST due to many reasons, I think at this point we have enough canonical data points to project the Mandalorians into the ST and here they are (per the canon recognized OT, PT, CW & Rebels):

1 (OT) - Boba Fett was a mandalorian and one of the most recognized characters visually of the OT (I mean lets be honest HUGE fan favorite for many reasons)
2 (PT) - Jango Fett was THE mandalorian in the PT, and the father of Boba
3 (Clone Wars) - Not only young Boba, but a ton of episodes and arcs re: Mandalore and its return to its ancient warrior ways, and why was it sooooo important to the staff of CW and George to return Mandalore to its warrior ways? wink wink I think we all know its a set up for the ST.
4 (Rebels) - and of course their is another Mandalorian appearing as a Rebel insurgent who likes det cord and graffiti.

So with all that said lets not over look Adam Driver's military training and background as a Marine. Who better to play a Mandalorian than a actor with real life military experience. If not Adam Driver? Then who else might play the ST Mandalorian?

So the real fun now (at least for me) is projecting out to the 5th (ST) data point and how will the Mandalorians be portrayed and how will they help shape the yet to be realized ST era galaxy. Do we really believe that the NEW ST will be the only trilogy in the Star Wars galaxy that doesn't have a solid Mandalorian presence (even if it is just the armor itself representing Mandalore and its warrior ways)? Also, the obvious fact that the later CW seasons had a huge Mandalorian influence, and not to mention a Mandalorian (or at least someone wearing the armor) is a big part of Rebels, I think its safe to say Mandalorians will play a HUGE part in the ST.

This to me is one of the most exciting aspects of the new ST. Can't wait!

  32. I hope there is indeed no unified galactic government and that it's every system for itself. It's what I proposed in my own "version" of what I'd like to see in Episode VII.

But if they do indeed run with Asaj Ventress as a character in the film, or other similar Clone Wars/EU characters, I will be able to lay aside all hope, excitement and hype for the film and know it will be garbage. In one way, that would be nice, because right now I am checking sites like this all the fricking time.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I guess it would make sense for there to be no unified galactic government in the ST, especially when you consider the effect that the oppression of the Empire combined with the corruption of the Old Republic had on the galaxy for so long. But of course, the problem there would be exactly what we saw in Episode I, with things like slavery running rampant in the absence of a centralized galactic authority to prevent it.

But even if there isn't a New Republic, there could certainly be a looser set of galactic human rights standards agreed upon by at least the major systems (particularly those that formed the Rebellion.)

And the Jedi could be wandering knights errant rather than the bureaucratic entity that they were in the PT. I always thought that for a Jedi who was genuinely in tune with the Force, he or she would just end up where they were most needed, guided there by the Force.

That would make for some very interesting potential points of crisis, as the downside of a more loose-knit government like that would inevitably show itself. Slavers, pirates, regional warlords, tainted blue milk... tons of shit could go wrong and draw the heroes into the conflict and adventure that we need in a SW movie.

    1. I did something similar with my SWRPG campaign; after RotJ the "Jedi" become the "Free." The Free travel through a decentralized independent galaxy wherever the force takes them . Leaves the games open to a lot of possibilities.
There are alliances and trade agreements and such but for the most part each planet is self dependent if not then they depend on the Free...

  34. Why is nobody talking into account that Ventress would be ancient? She'd be in her 60's, I think. I highly doubt that the film will make mention of her.

  35. What if the Sith were not the villan (again)? But rather work together with the "good guys" to combat an even greater threat: The Rakata? The Gree? Nightsisters? The Son?

There's just so many avenues they could tackle rather than just "vilainising" the Sith once more.

  36. I have serious problems with this idea of no new Republic. It goes too far in undermining ROTJ and the previous films. The goal of the Alliance was to restore the Republic. Have they failed because the Empire won the Civil War? That would be insane, with ROTJ making it quite clear that Imperial defeat is inevitable. Does the galaxy decide, after the Empire is defeated, decide to go for a sort of decentralized system without any central galatic government? If so, I expect a very clear explanation on why the galaxy found that a good idea now, after thousands of years of Republic rule.
