Young Han Solo Casting Already Underway? Ewan McGregor Not Contacted for Episode 7 + Disney's Plans for the Future.

disney plans

Walt Disney's chief financial officer Jay Rasulo spoke at an investor conference on Thursday and outlined what are the company's plans for the future of the Star Wars franchise.
Also check out the latest casting rumors form the galaxy far far away...

During the presentation Disney's Jay Rasulo said:
“...the market is extremely hot for everything ‘Star Wars’ and of all our worries, ‘Star Wars’ is not one of them.”
He called the franchise an “evergreen property” that continues to mint money through licensing deals, and had the potential to become even more valuable with the right deals.
"The overall strategy is to put out a great film first. We will lay the groundwork for that … and when the film comes out in 2015, we’ll be ready to blow it out”
Rasulo also noted that one “Star Wars” trilogy film or “origin story film” will be released each year, starting with J.J. Abrams' Episode 7 in 2015.

Many sites paid special attention to the words "origin story". While I think that some of the spin-off movies will indeed have an origin story, I doubt that they'll go this way with all of them. I doubt that Rasulo intended any special meaning with this.

Now some casting rumors.

Almost a month ago LatinoReview started a rumor that Ian McDiarmid and Ewan McGregor will return in Star Wars: Episode 7 as force ghosts.
Later McDiarmid himself dismissed the rumors saying that still no one has called him.

Now Ewan McGregor made a similar comment. The actor was at the Toronto International Film Festival for the premiere of his new drama, August: Osage County.
He said that he'd love to be in director J.J. Abrams' upcoming flick:

"They haven't phoned me yet. But if they do I'd be up for it."

Here's another rumor coming from Bleeding Cool. They didn't quote any source for that so take it with a grain of salt.
"... I understand that casting for a young Han Solo has been happening for a few months now, alongside the casting for Episode VII. A basic description of the character – about as useful as “Han Solo, but young” – was created, agencies listed the role as a situation vacant and actors started to get in line. I don’t know if anybody has read for the role yet, but if they have, it was under an even heavier veil of secrecy than the saga casting is hiding. My best guess is that the filmmakers are very, very early in the process and just rounding up some candidates for now."

Who do you think is suitable for the role of the young Han Solo? Because of the huge popularity of the character I think that Disney will cast someone that is fairly to mid popular.
Here are some suggestions that kinda fit the charcter:

Garrett Hedlund
garrett hedlund
Nathan Fillion
nathan fillion
Taylor Kitsch
taylor kitsch

Bradley Cooper
bradley cooper

  Nicholas Hoult
nicholas hoult

My favourites: Garrett Hedlund and Nicholas Hoult.

    1. I think by young they mean mid twenties or something. Probably for a spin-off movie with a story taking place few years before New Hope.

    2. YES THAT IS STILL NOT WHAT I WANT AT ALL haha. Harrison Ford brought so much to that character. It was the deliver of his one liners and reactions and manarisms were just brilliant. So having a film based entirely on him, and a younger self without Harrison Ford, would just be a terrible idea. There's so so so so many better characters to make a film from. Heck, Seeing Qui-gon and obi-wan would be more interesting because they could actually bring back Liam Neeson and Ewan.

I know many, myself included, but not all have been harsh on some of the articles and reporting. But I do enjoy the site and I thank you for not only posting but trying to keep previous information straight and in line, none of us know what is truly down the tunnel with Star Wars. Thanks again for keeping information coming through.

    1. I agree. Ignore the idiots who complain about the lack of news when there is no news. Rumours are a suitable place-holder until there is something official.

      Keep up the good work.

    4. Check the site every day at work! You're helping make the anticipation of these films memorable.

  3. Nathan Fillion? No way. He is too old and too well known in the SF geek community.

If only we could resurrect River Phoenix...

  4. Taylor Kitsch will likely never headline a major Disney franchise again. Not after his megaflop of John Carter.

I just can't believe how dormant my Star Wars fandom was since the prequels. Now with all this new trilogy news. I can't escape my want of Star Wars lol. 6 films, 2 video games and another CGI TV series on the way!

As for young Han Solo... I doubt that will ever happen. Fans have been less then kind (me included) with other changes in character's past. If they did go ahead with this... they are some big risk takers.

Still easy money for Disney? Release the originals cleaned up and unaltered. In ten years? Reboot the prequels :P

  6. I see Han as a ten year old living by his wits, stowing away on freighters, living on the "streets." Mentored by a gnarly alien. Leave Chewie out of the first one. And leave The Force and Jedis as minor stories - Han doesn't even believe in it, remember?

  7. I am completely uninterested in seeing a young Han Solo movie, or seeing any other actor play the part.

If they really have to do "in between" movies, I'd rather they not focus on any of the main characters.

I'd rather have them make films on some of the lesser characters, where there would be more freedom to create anyway.

How about a Star Wars Godfather or Goodfellas that shows the rise of Jabba the Hutt?

  8. Nathan Fillion, hands down, no better option exists!

    1. Not filming a young Han Solo movie at all would be a better option.

  9. As long as its only for a spin-off movie. I would hate too see the classic characters re-cast in SW7. Half the fun is going to be seeing an older Ford, Hamill and Fisher mentoring the next gen.

  10. Hey, i have a great idea! For all of you that do not want to see the new films, DON"T WATCH THEM & SHUT UP so those of us that do can watch them in peace! i will never understand why nerds think they HAVE to watch something and then whine and complain FOREVER afterwards. No one seemed to like Indiana Jones & The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull...then why watch it??? Just stop at 3 and be done with it.No one is making you go see Star Wars 7 or ANY of the other spin-offs, just stay home with what you do like...for the rest of you, i will see you at the movies!

    1. Good input :) also complaining about a Movie that is not even made is just plain stupid, who knows, it could be GREAT! & if not i will still include it in my Collection & not complain about it online, i don´t even complain about JarJar, -I Watch the story in the Movies, not the design & it is not up to us to decide how they look...

    2. "then why watch it?" Because it's a franchise people are so passionate about and therefore will go to see any film that is situated with the franchise. That's the whole point, people are going to watch this film because they love star wars and are curious, so would simply have to watch it to see if it's good or not, because they are curious of the film. How are you supposed to know if you don't like a film if you don't watch it. This is eexctly the point, you HAVE to watch this film. And if you don't like it, then you're forced to accept a film you don't like in a franchise you love. This is the whole point.
"No one seemed to like Indiana Jones & The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull...then why watch it???"
Because people like indiana jones, therefore were curious about the new film, went to see it, then didn't like it. It's a completely hilarious argument to just blame them and say "oh you shouldn't have watched it in the first place then". Well how are you supposed to know if you will enjoy it or not if you don't go to see it..
"No one seemed to like Indiana Jones & The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull...then why watch it???"
..think about it, you're argument makes no sense.

  11. When they say "young Han Solo", I think they mean early teens. He was 30 or so in a New Hope. All of these actors are all wrong and too old.

  12. I'd love if they made a Obi-Wan movie between Episode III and Episode IV.

  13. Aaron Paul. Just throwing that out there.
