Rumor: Yoda and Other Jedi to Appear in Episode 7 as Force Ghosts.

star wars

Stunning discovery, right? Take this report with a huge grain of salt not because it's doubtful but because anyone could have guessed that. According to the latest rumors Yoda and some other deceased Jedi will make an appearance in Episode 7 in force ghost form...

So according to a cosmic booknews' source:
Star Wars: Episode VII will feature Force Ghost Yoda.
We're told that Yoda will have words with Luke Skywalker about a rising unbalance in the force and the need to preserve the Jedi.
There is also talk amongst production that would give a nod to the previous Jedi characters in the form of holographic pictures in the new Jedi Temple.
It's said it wouldn't be anything major, but would be in a background sequence featuring holograms of Yoda, Alec McGuiness as Obi-Wan Kenobi,  Liam Neeson as Qui-Gon Jinn, Samuel L. Jackson as Mace Windu as well as others.

I don't know about you but I think someone's going for the clicks with this. :)

  1. Definitely looks like someone wants attention. Still, it's the biggest rumor we've had that addresses the plot of the film.

  2. Makes sense. It'd be cool to see Luke visit an old Jedi temple with intentions of starting up the new Jedi order and seeing faces like Qui-Gon, Mace, Obi-Wan and Yoda in force ghost and pre-recorded holographic form.

  3. What about force ghost younglings that were slaughtered by some selfish, ruthless, jerkface creep-a-zoid?

  4. It would be good to see. Their relationship has always been so interesting. It's like Yoda was Luke's grandfather, and Obi-wan was his godfather. So a scene together would be great. Maybe Luke has a trouble and goes to Yoda for help or advice then perhaps we just have a closeup of Obiwan giving a look of encouragement to Luke before he vaparates away with yoda. Obviously taking old footage of sir Alec and bringing back Frank Oz. I mean why not, it could only need to be for a quick 30 second scene.

  5. Holographic pictures in the new Jedi Temple along the same lines as the busts in the Jedi library in Ep 2. That makes sense.

And I could also see Yoda reaching out to Luke through the Force to warn him of a new imbalance. IMHO the best way to handle that would be to make it clear that it took a great deal of effort for Yoda's spirit to make contact since it's been so long since he passed. That would account for passage of time and would also demonstrate how dire the current situation is.

Or... this could be another click-bait rumor. ;^)

    1. Instead of ghost form....just have his voice. I agree, it needs to be known that it took a lot of effort just to reach out to Luke....also, I wouldn't doubt it if it was Obi-wan instead of Yoda who reaches out to Luke.

JUST FOR THE RECORD....Sir Alec is no-longer with us my friends. It's not gonna BREAK canon if Ewan continues his performance of Obi-wan. I'm cool with him reprising his role.

If they do have Obi-wans force ghost show up & he's got lines, I just don't see any reason to go out an hire a totally new actor to fill the role. That would break canon!

*** The whole rant about canon is in response to AMC hosts youtube declaration that having Ewan play Obi-wan in Ep. 7 would break canon cuz Sir Alec played the part in Ep's. 4-6....

    2. They could have another actor play Ben Kenobi.... Remember what they did with Dumbledore in the later Harry Potter films?

    3. It's also possible for make-up and prosthetics to shape ewen's face to make him look at least a little more like Alec. I really wouldn't have a problem with him reprising the role either. He was one of my favorite pieces from the PT.

    4. & after the phrostetics they can do final touches with just a little cgi, it would be cool to see the appearance of sir Alec Gunniess & knowing it is Ewan McGregor , in one of the "making of" documentaries from the PT they compare their faces in a computer & they have the same bone structure & even a mold at the same place, here is a cool picture of them both in the same picture http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v11/tricorder/Stuff/Ewan-McGregor--and-Alec-Guinness.jpg

  7. Holographic images? Yes, I'm down with that.

Ghosts, if it's only Yoda I'm ok with it as well. But I'd rather not see tons of ghosts coming back in the movie (especially not Hayden), it would look like they were just going out of their way to give cameos to those characters. One of the most annoying things about the prequels was all the pointless cameos.

    1. .... says the guy who is all for Mark, Carrie, and Harrison taking over VII as old protagonists, even though their proper "send off" was at the conclusion of Episode VI.

      Delete
    2. "even though their proper "send off" was at the conclusion of Episode VI."

So says the guy who'd rather Disney just throw us into a brand new story without a shred of familiarity from the OT. Think of what seeing characters like 3PO, Obi-Wan, Anakin and Cidious did for the fans who saw Ep I in theaters. You'd be watching the movie and think, "hey, I know what happens to that guy later on. I wonder what happened to him in the years leading up to that point." That's what kept us involved in the prequels. Waiting for that scene in episode III when Vader rises and we finally have the continuity of the films complete... until now. With Ep VII, that familiarity element is just as, if not more important than the PT. Now the audience wants to see where their favorite characters are 30 years since we've last seen them. Sure, the rebelion vanquished the emperor and prosperity was restored to the galaxy, but what about Yoda's whole schpeal about there being another Skywalker? Does Leia ever pursue her bloodline in the Jedi ways? Does Luke ever continue his training and go one to start a brand new Order of Jedi? All of these questions are things that we want to see answered and by throwing us into completely new surrounding with nothing but hints at what happened to the OT characters, you would lose an enormous amount of the audience. People would see the trailer and think, "wait... This is Star Wars?" They need the return of iconic faces to the screen, at least for episode VII, so that when the torch is passed to the newer generation of heroes, both the fans and the general audience will feel comfortable with where they've been taken in the story and will be inclined to keep watching through Ep IX.

  8. This rumor is almost correct. It will be Anakin who comes to Luke. The hologram thing is right.

    1. Where was that reported? How do you know what's right?

      Delete
    2. I disagree. It wouldn't be Anakin or Yoda....Obi-wan has the greater tie to Luke.

But then again, all 3 did reveal themselves to Luke at the end of Ep. 6....so who knows?

    3. Abrams has to know by now that bringing Hayden Christiansen into the mix would be shitting in the eyes of so many fans.

      Delete
    4. There's no way they'd do Hayden since it would just tick people off. It would be shooting yourself in the foot for no reason whatsoever. Logically it probbaly would not be Obi-Wan because this appearence would probably require a great effort and Yoda was much stronger in the Force. It doesn't hurt that he's very marketable either which makes him well suited to a cameo.

  9. They shouldn't assume Mace is dead.

  10. It would be absolutely ridiculous for Mace not to be dead.

    1. How so? You mean Jedi ALWAYS died when falling a great distance? (Obi-wan, Qui-gon, and others during battles)

You mean Jedi ALWAYS died when struck by hand lightning? (Luke from the Emperor)

      Delete
    2. ahaha don't be stupid. Quo-gon and obiwans fall were only a few feet. Mace Windu had his arm chopped off, bolted with lightning, then fell a bit more than a few feet ! Plus this trilogy is around 50 years later, he would probably be dead by old age by now.

      Delete
    3. Honestly I get the feeling that we'll eventually find out that he wasn't actually dead since it's too good to pass on. That being said I doubt he has a role in VII as he would probably have passed naturally but you never know. I could see a story being done about how he eventually recuperates to a degree and then tries to help the people of Coruscant from the shadows.

      Delete
    4. Don't be stupid???? Ok, I'll stoop to your level and resort to childish name-calling since this is apparently your age level.

First of all, learn how to spell stupid! Its Qui-gon and Obi-wan. Who the hell is "Quo-gon and obiwans"???? hahahah

Next, if you think their falls were "only a few feet", you have absolutely no concept of distance whatsoever.

Mace's arm getting chopped doesn't have to mean he died. Remember how many limbs Anakin lost, stupid? And lastly, this is a fantasy world stupid, reality is always stretched a bit, stupid!

      Delete
    5. Wow... Look at the big boy here with his "points of arguement."
The anon that made the comment about the differentiation in distance between the falls of Mace, Obi-wan and Qui-gon has a valid point. Windu was completely caught off guard by Palpatine and Anakin's ambush. Their intention was to kill him without allowing him the opportunity to even get up. Seems to me that it's become a fairly regular twist for Jedi or Sith to die and have them return later on in something new.
That's one thing I really didn't like about TCW. Maul should have stayed dead, even though he's probably the coolest character out of the prequels.
You seem to be taking the whole name-calling thing a lot more seriously than the Anon who's comment you were responding to. Just so you know, it makes you look a lot more childish...

  12. As much as I dislike Hayden, it would be cool to see a father/son scene. Since Anakin spent some time on the darkside before returning to the light, perhaps he can sense a new darkside threat.

    1. I agree....it would be cool if Anakin reached out to Luke and Leia. But I honestly think they would have Obi-wan reach out....

      Delete
    2. I agree that it should be Anakin. Since they both struggled with anger, Anakin should tell Luke he's better off joining the dark side and getting the kids to join too. Its just too much trouble dealing with all the light side of the force rules. Let loose and have some fun!

      Delete
    3. Here is the million dollar question:

Will Disney show Hayden as Anakin? From a story/plot point of view, Anakin should appear (as he did at the end of Episode VI.) However, the OT fanatics hate Hayden's guts, so what are they going to do?

      Delete
    4. If they absolutly felt the need to use Anakin Skywalker it would probably be in the form of a disembodied voice. Maybe even Vader's synthesized voice as it would be more recognizable to Luke.

  15. I always found it mysterious how obi-wan & yoda just 'de-materialized' when becoming one with the energy of the force.. a metaphysical idea but perhaps they could learn to 're-materialize' by the same force energy, if only for a short time, perhaps in a time of need & transcend force ghost & take it to another level..

    1. I don't think you want to break that rule. The power to cheat death makes the plot a bit ridiculous (see Into Darkness, Khan's blood).

  16. FINALLY a rumor that doesn't make me nervous....

...Of course, force-ghosts Qui Gon Jinn and Mace Windu will not appear because it will offend the OT fans, who dictates 99.9% of Disney's creative choices in this franchise, it seems.

    1. Supposedly Yoda explained why QuiGon wasn't able to appear in ROTS. But, his dialogue is a little vague regarding that. I think the novel ROTS explains more in detail but I never read it. And, most people think Mace died so there goes that.
If there is any EU in the new movies, it will prove OT fans do not dictate

  17. Remember Luke can only see Yoda, Obi One and his father since all knew him. Remember what Yoda said before he passed that "I already know you!" And that is the key. Luke through the force cannot see Qui Gon or Mace Windu because they did not know each other. If I were a betting man I would go to Vegas and put a bet on the table that there will be force ghosts of Ben, Yoda and maybe his father. Esp if there is a reemergence of the Emperor. As a Force ghost type clone leading some Sith.

    1. Actually Yoda says "No more training do you require. Already know you that which you need." Luke then says "Then I am a Jedi" Yoda then tell Luke "One thing remains. Vader. You must confront Vader. Then, only then a Jedi will you be. And confront him you will" That has nothing to do with a Jedi appearing to another Jedi in ghost form only because he knew him when he was alive. And remember that at the end of ROTS Yoda tells Obi Wan that he has training for him in his solitude on Tatooine from his old master Qui Gon which is the ability to retain his identity in the Force after he dies. Yoda managed to save Annikin from becoming one with the force when he died. So only Yoda, Obi Wan and Annikin have the ability to return as Force ghosts.

...um Yoda never once said "I already know you!"..

  18. It makes sense.

In RotJ, Obi Wan told Luke - "Yoda will always be with you". So, it's very likely that we will get a Yoda Force ghost in Ep7. And, as Force ghosts tend not jump around like demented frogs, Yoda can be a practical puppet (manipulated by the great Frank Oz).

Also, Latino Review previously reported that Ewan Mcregor and Ian McDiarmid would be returning to their respective roles. This could very well be in the form of a holographic recording from the days of the PT.

The pieces could very well be (finally) fitting together.

  19. Mace can't come back as a ghost. Jedi didn't know that power. Qui Gonn learned it, probably studing the forbidden arts of the sith (it is the power Palpatine talks about in episode 3), and, as Yoda says in episode 3, when he dies he teaches it to Yoda who teaches it to Obi Wan. So Mace could not have learned it.

    1. The power that Palpatine talks about is the power to literally cheat death as we know it. His master had come close to achieving that power until he was murdered by Palpatine.

    2. That is how Palpatine sells it to Anakin.

  24. oh Jesus...force ghosts are so lame, enough of the cameos and just bleedin get on with making ep7!
What spoiled the prequels was all the stupid cameo's, just so they could tie it in with the OT (especially the ridiculous Chewie one)
I just hope this new trilogy is better thought out than one thats going to please the fanboys, rather than making a good movie instead.

    1. It's not about cameos, it's about the structure of continuity.

    2. If they just jumped back and forth between stories that have nothing to do with each other, how would that make it a saga?

      Delete
  25. We are talking about a huge universe here, and besides, the continuity doesn't have to constantly keep having a hark back to the original, it was a different era in the timeline.
Just why exactly did Yoda have to be an old friend of chewies? WTF!?
The prequels were so badly stitched together, it just ended up looking like a fail by Ep3.
Which is bad, considering I'm a long time fan. As far as the "saga" aspect is concerned, It's supposed to be the story of the Skywalker family, if I'm not mistaken, that in itself is glue enough to bind all the other aspects together...
    A bit like the force....
