UPDATE3! Another Possible Star Wars: Episode 7 Cast Announcement? No.

This is just a speculation, so keep that in mind. Remember how Disney/Lucasfilm presented all the characters from the new animated series Star Wars: Rebels? Yes, they leaked the stories of each character to a different site. Some people were really confused by this strategy because mostly all of the Star Wars news before were coming from the official site StarWars.com. Now what if the casting announcements for Star Wars: Episode 7 actually follows the same pattern...

The story from yesterday about Adam Driver, being cast as the main villain in Star Wars: Episode 7 was definitely intentionally leaked from Lucasfilm/Disney to Variety. Several other credible movie sites have also heard the rumors about Adam Driver being consider for the movie but Disney denied the rumors at that time.
Jeff Sneider (@TheInSneider) February 26, 2014DISNEY on DRIVER in NOVEMBER: "We’re not going to comment on every whisper or rumor that comes in, but I wouldn’t go with that information."

Nevertheless Variety got the green light to go on with the story.

Now who's next? What about the guys at JediNews?

Here's what Mark Newbold from JediNews posted on Twitter last week:

Later Justin fromJediNews also posted this:

So what if JediNews is the next site who has some intentionally leaked cast announcements about Star Wars: Episode 7?

star wars

Here's one of their latest posts: (source JediNews)
This Friday on RebelForce Radio, actor Topher Grace (That 70s Show) is our special guest and he makes an exclusive announcement on the show that will be of interest to Star Wars fans.

Topher Grace is a great actor and he is pretty famous with his passion for Star Wars.

The speculations about Topher Grace being cast as Luke in Episode 7 were quickly spread around the web. I'm not sure about this. Remember the rumor we posted 2 days ago about a young actor who was offered the role of one of the Big Four? Well, it was indeed about Luke but the name of the actor we heard was different. So stay tuned to find out if we would be getting our second casting announcement for the week tomorrow.

UPDATE!

(28.02.2014)
According to Jason Ward from MakingStarWars, they could probably announce Topher Grace as a voice actor for Star Wars: Rebels. So far all of the actors voicing major characters from the show have been revealed except for The Inquisitor. And Grace is no stranger to playing villains.

So this also sounds plausible but it doesn't explain Justin's tweet about Jedi News publishing their first confirmed human casting for Star Wars: Episode7. But then again he used quotation marks with "Confirmed" so it could go both ways.

Well at least we won't wait much for that announcement. We'll find out today.

UPDATE 2!

The announcement is happening in 1 hour. Also here's another interesting tweet from Theory 11.

I wonder if this is Star Wars related too. This will also happen in just one hour. Something is definitely happening.

They've just announced playing cards. :)

See it here.

UPDATE 3!

So the announcement is that Topher Grace is releasing a trailer for his 85 minute edit of the Prequel Trilogy. I won't post a link to it. JediNews really used that well. Another disappointment for the fans. All they had to do was clarifying that this is not Ep.VII related.

  2. For Luke? Funny that we thought it might be any and everyone other than him.. Still can't release the actor in question?

    ReplyDelete
  3. That's weird. So wtf aged Luke will he be playing? Young (some flashback scene), middle aged (another back-in-time scene)? He can't be playing the properly aged Luke if Mark Hamill is in it. Yes, it sure does seem like we are all in for some surprises.

I'd rather they not use flashback scenes, but oh well, wtf can you do about it, right? They are going to film what they want so whatever...

Just hope it turns out to be an awesome movie!!!

    1. I personally don't think they're going to bring in Mark Hamill. I think it's a good rumor to spread in order to have time to do the actual casting. Many reasons for it...
      - First, no offense to the actor, but judging on his imdb profile, he doesn't seem to be a great fit (physically) to be the Grand Jedi Master. Even if they are not following the EU, I would expect Luke to still be in a great shape. (Based on his actions and the slowing down of the aging process by the exposure to the Force, he feels more like an early forty type of guy.)
      - Second, Disney plans to use the SW franchise to do many movies! That means at least 5 or 6 movies I presume. (well unless they choke after the first one which I doubt) Considering one movie every year or two years, the actor will be 75 years old... I don't think that's such a good plan.

And yeah I know, how about Harrison Ford? Gosh that's such a hard question. Joker on that one!

  6. I'd prefer to see the characters of the big 3 dead instead of played by different and young actors...why would they have to change the face of luke, han and leia? No, if Topher Grace or anyone else around his age is in he'll portray one of the sons of the big 3...it would be a shame to mess things up replacing them, they're history, leave them alone

    ReplyDelete

  9. eee all this talk of a younger and recast Luke Han and Leia is really hard to take, hope it's not true.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Well, I'm just thinking, what if all this younger actors are used to brief us about the trio's life after ROTJ?
It'd help the new audience be familiar with the characters, understand their importance, and at the same time maybe foreshadow or set plot-points.
It wouldn't be /all/ of the movie, and we wouldn't need any flashback or time-travel. We'd get backstory and the original trio. I mean, it wouldn't be too devastating, right?

    ReplyDelete
  11. I was just thinking today... what if?
What if the sequel trilogy was made first instead of the prequel trilogy?
George Lucas should have made the sequel trilogy first back in 1999 when the original cast were all still quite young enough and able (ie. Peter Mayhew).
Then the story could have easily been set only 20 years after JEDI and even if the main characters did have kids then the siblings would probably be in their late teens.

    Shame, what could have been?
Instead George fucked it up and chose to make the prequels first.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I don't think he fucked up making the prequels first. There was a tremendous amount of potential for those films to be great. He fucked up not letting others direct and help write, especially dialogue. But, initially, if you can remember back then, it seemed like a great idea to have Lucas in full control. No one realized then that he had been away from directing for so long, he lost his ability and touch with making great films.

      Delete
    2. I agree- it would have been great to have had Luke, Han and Leia in their 40's and still looking much the same for 1990's era sequels. Anyway, it won't happen now. I would still much prefer an old wise original cast than recasting with different actors yuck no thanks.

      Delete
    3. Wrong. The prequels were a learning curve, to give us a chance to see how bad things could turn out if a director decides to rely too heavily on cgi and what not. I am glad Lucas got his itch out of the way with the prequels and now we can get back to business with good story telling and more realistic visuals. I don't want Luke walking through the middle of a cartoon, which is what would have happened if it was filmed back in 98'.

      Delete
    4. All good replies, thank you.

      Delete
    5. i think you meant learning experience or learning opportunity, not learning curve. but point well taken.

      Delete
    6. Anon Feb 28 12:24.

You do realize that much of the special effects in the prequels were miniatures, right? But I do believe you in that the prequels were a learning curve. Every movie that tries something ambitious is a learning curve.

      Delete
    7. Interesting line of conversation! Hindsight is 20-20, either way. Would there be anticipation for prequels after sequels were made, really, instead? The concept of a "foregone conclusion", knowing who will and won't die from the start, was unavoidable.

  12. Call me overly-cautious, but I am still not buying the Adam Driver rumor until Disney or Lucasfilm speaks out. Question: is "Variety" a very trusted source, or have they been dead wrong in the past?

    ReplyDelete
  14. So rumor has it now that all the classic heroes of Star Wars will be replaced by younger actors? That's stupid. But if they're really doing it, cast Nathan Filion as Han Solo. Captain Mal Reynolds from Firefly/Serenity is definitely Han Solo's legacy haha

  15. Well after that October 30th BS, I'm convinced that Disney will not reveal a single detail about the movie until its on screen. We will learn the title when we first see the opening crawl on Dec 18th 2015. Along with the plot/actors and everything else

    1. lmao. Yeah sure they're going to want to keep everything secret and limit their marketing strategies and not tell the audience anything about the film. That will really give confidence to the public won't it. And they going to be ABLE to keep everything secret aren't they..

  16. Topher Grace would be awesome! But not as Luke, but who knows as Ben Skywalker.

    ReplyDelete
  17. We should have gotten Luke Skywalker in his 40's. Mark Hamill was fit & young looking for years & years, right into his late 40's he could have picked it right back up. They always could have done the prequels later on. Now we have either an original cast that is finally looking old, or they will have to re-cast with different actors..

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. ..Yeah what a tragic thing age is. Because Old-ben was not old at all was he?. Or yoda. or the emperor. No main characters are ever old are they. I mean Luke should have called him Young-ben because he was so young wasn't he..

    2. Nah, slap some just-for-men on him and give him some Andro Gel and you've got a Luke that looks 10 years younger.

    1. DIng ding ding!!! You're right. Unfortunantly they don't need us fans anymore since they're going to pump out a movie per year and generate revenue from the general public. And those people couldn't care less since they barely comprehend what they're watching anyway.

  23. They're doing the Thrawn Trilogy. Topher Grace is playing Luke's clone, Adam Driver is playing Jorus C'baoth. The role Fassbender and Oldman are pursuing is for Thrawn.

    3. He would not be C'baoth, that would me a job for Oldman if that was the case, but I would prefer to see Oldman as Talon Karrde.. but we'll just have to wait and see:) Fassbender would make a decent Thrawn but would prefer Weaving or Cumberbatch for the role as a Thrawnish character. There are rumors sircling about an Imperial admiral, so why not Thrawn?

    3. The entire point of a Sequel Trilogy is passing the torch, to capture the imaginations of young people, to give it new life. If they don't do that in-universe with a time skip, it will be a waste.

      Delete
  25. Maybe there is a play within the movie called THE BIG THREE. It is a play that tells the story of the big 3. So, Topher will play the part of an actor that plays Luke in the play.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Are we REALLY going to buy the notion that they're recasting the original trio with younger actors? I could see Topher Grace as Luke's son, but as Luke? He doesn't look much older than Luke did in ROTJ, and he sure doesn't look enough like Mark Hamill for it to not be profoundly distracting to the audience to cast him as Luke.

If there's anything to this, it's got to be some sort of flashback or holocron sort of thing, and not a full-on recasting.

    ReplyDelete
  27. JJ Abrans said is a big fan of the classic trilogy he ever touch in episode 4,5 and 6. These actors should be the children of Luke and read.

  30. Topher Grace would have to be Luke's son & not a bad choice either ......

    ReplyDelete
  31. Don't forget that Grace made a Star Wars edit some time ago. He said at the time that he wouldn't release it publicly, but has since released a fan edit of Boogie Nights. So, maybe he has changed his mind.....

    ReplyDelete
  32. All this is just speculation at the moment but a possible scenario might be that the first part of Episode 7 might show us a "catch-up" of events following JEDI, maybe with a young Luke involved in a plot point that has repurcusions 30 or so years later. Then we move foward and pick up the story with Hamill, Ford and Fisher. Similar to the first 15 minutes of Last Crusade. It would feel strange for Star Wars true, but still better than a total recast. This may explain the rumours of Leia also been recast as well. I think if Hamill, Fisher and Ford were out then certainly Hamill and Fisher would have gone public by now talking about their disappointment (they would have no need for secrecy if they had been dropped) Their silence to me is encouraging in that case.

    1. hmm, I cannot see the point of flashbacks. If the empire is still the main threat then the story can just pick up and it won't have to explain anything. If the threat is all new then I presume it will start out all fine and dandy, and then the threat is introduced, rather than something having gone wrong 30 years ago and the story is starting 30 years later.. It would just seem so weird. I hope this makes sense haha

      Delete
    2. Of course, in Star Trek 2009, there were no flashbacks, it was a progression of time. Though that is an interesting point about a new threat, a plot hole (fixed in a deleted scene, but still) in that film was that the bad guys just twiddled their thumbs for decades.

      Delete
  33. I think this is especially likely because of Ben. We don't have to explain Han and Leia having kids, its presumed possible, but luke having a kid is like "whoa" where did that come from. It might require either what you describe above or flashbacks. This has too much emotional content for scrolling text at the opening of the film.

  34. The big announcement (I'm listening to it now) is that Topher Grace will be posting a preview of the 85 minute edit he made of the prequel trilogy on his website.

  35. Topher will probably just be talking about his new website, "cerealprize," I think it's called. He was talking about it on The Nerdist podcast as well. I wouldn't mind seeing him in the ST to redeem himself for Spiderman 3.
I do not think JJ would recast the big 3. I just don't see it. He's smart enough to know how much backlash there would be from die-hard AND casual fans.

Which is very helpful indeed, I mean what if it was about episode 7? I'd like to know about it wouldn't you? Calm the fuck down. But yes that's right. puke on your own ignorance.

No he isn't. He has no intention of releasing the edit.

If you are accusing Jedinews of falsely getting people's hopes up, you shouldn't falsely be getting people's hopes up.
